    Hi Terry.
    First of all thanks for your video's, I only have a medium size pond with only orfe and goldfish!
    I was fed up cleaning sponges etc and liked how your system works.
    I also wanted to see the fish rather than having cloudy water!
    I have now finished my 3 tubs as yours, and finished it just before i went on a 2 week holiday.
    May have been best to set it up after i got back as the filters overflowed and my pond emptied!
    Fortunately my brother in law kept his eye on it and managed to keep the pond filled up :)
    I just wanted to mention this to you and your viewers as I have just fitted overflow pipes to each tub that bypases the filter media, to enable the water to return to the pond easier.
    Overall i am very impressed on the clarity of my pond water and love the back washing process.
    Saves a lot of mucky work, and time.
    One other thing, I had to put my UV light directly after the pump (before filters) as the flow wasn't sufficient to fill the UV chamber from my last tub and return to the pond!
    Thanks Gary

      Hi Gary, Thank goodness for your brother in law. It's always risky building something new and leaving it. Glad to here all turned out ok. Good to here the filters working well and your pleased with it, Enjoy your pond. Terry.

    Just build the same setup. Have not done a clean out yet as only been running a week and koi are not very active as just out of winter.
    Must have to give multiple rinses or when you turn the filter back on slightly brown water will go into your pond.

    Hi Terry, the first tub is the worst, it is definitely working well, better than any other filter I've used/built, I guess the bottom of my pond is still dirty, so I'll keep at it mate. The vortex brush filter I've added to the waterfall pump supply seems to be working great so I may try one on your design as a pre filter. I will be vacuuming the pond to death in the autumn so that should help. Thanks again for your help.....

    I love this filter, my pond is crystal clear and the water quality is great (been running now for 2 months or so) however, I still can't get near leaving the cleaning for a week, 3 days is the most I've been able to leave it so far before the media in bins 1 and 2 is pushed out of the top of the water.
    Do the more expensive shop brought filters need cleaning this often or is this filter just too efficient!! Keep he videos coming Terry, they are appreciated.

      Barry Spiers Hi Barry, Glad all is well. or should I say too well lol. If you're getting dirt like I show in my last video then there working. Are both tub showing equal amount of dirt? you could try more media to cope with the volume. You can go to 60% of your water volume with media. This time of year filters are on overtime. If thing are that bad you could add another tub at the beginning. A swirl tank to pre filter the water and take a lot of the larger particles.
      Terry.

    Hi Terry. Why are the first two barrels fed via 15mm speed fit for air source yet barrel 3 is only normal air line hose ?
    Thanks Terry

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  2 года назад +1

      Hi Rob, the air in tub 3 can be run by a much smaller air pump and the weight of an air stone will hold the air pipe down. Tubs 1 and 2 are just plain pipe (no air stone), so a normal air pipe would float, and you also need a bigger air pump to move the media. You can contact me on pondfilters@gmail.com if you have any problems, I can reply quicker from there mate, Terry.

    I love this design. I am planning a small 1000 gallon pond. This design won’t work unless the pond is below the filter level, my filter will be level with the pond and about 50 feet away. Is it possible to pressurize your filter system to push the water back to the pond?

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  4 года назад

      Hi mate, if you have a look at my website diypondfilters.com/shop/ I have a Pro Midi filter that is gravity fed which fits level with the pond with a pump return. With being such a long distance from the pond I would recommend 3" pipework from the pond to the filter to ensure you get enough flow. Terry.

    Hello,
    The media K1 work very well. Butt I think that U spend too much time & fisical work to clean up the filters. If U Use the same principle of the waste water treatment plant filtration, U need only few mints & low fisical work. It's simple: 1st. stage- conical clarifier filter with drain valve in the bottom, 2nd stage- bubbling air canister with media to enrich the bacterias, & final 3rd stage, another cone clarifier filter with same drainage to clean up and U can add a sponge box biofiltration to add more bacterias. Just drain the 2 clarifiers & save time, water. Anyhow, congrat with Ur pretty pond. Enjoy.

    Hi I’m Carla and I have built your set up for my pond. However I am in need of more additional help, I have been working tirelessly on this for a year and I can’t seem to be able to control my pressure. I have too much pressure I believe but my husband disagrees. I can’t have my lids open at all , or I will have over flow. I have change this system so much I have pvc damage parts all over my yard. I upgraded from 3- 35 gallon drum’s to 4- 55 gallon drums. And I still have to divert half the water to keep down the pressure. I have to 2 hp pump external, I am using 2” pvc and it’s still leaking from the lids they look like there going to blow the lids off, what should I do? I think I have 1500 to 2000 gallon of water but not certain because my water meters keep breaking. Ugh overwhelmed with this project!! 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ I can send you pictures what’s your email address please can send here

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  2 года назад

      Hi Carla, this is one of my old videos, but you should have ask me way before now, I could have saved you a lot of trouble. Your pond pump is way too big, and your pipework too small. You're not going to get that sort of flow through 2" pipework. Is the 2" the inside or outside pipe diameter? What you have to understand is, you're pump is forcing water through the 2" pipe to the filter. Once the water is in the filter, it is only a gravity flow, so your pipework needs to be at least twice the size of the pump pipework. If your pond is only 2000 gallon (about 10,000 ltr) you only need to have a 5000 lph flow rate for your pond water volume. My email is pondfilters@gmail.com send me some pictures, and I'll help if I can, but I think your going to need a different pump. Terry.

      50f150 I've found pumping clean tap water into the filter while cleaning it kills the bacteria colony. If you do use clean tap water make sure you have an inline dechlorinator/carbon filter attached to your hose or water outlet.

      T Kulesa if he could just use the pond water it would work that's how I have mine set up the pump keeps running while the dirty water is flushed out its much like rinse the media off I know that tap water will kill the bacteria

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  9 лет назад

      50f150 I think we all understand about tap water but the thing is with the media being two feet deep in the tub, rinsing from the top won't move the dirt on the bottom of the tub with the media sitting on it. The media has to be circulating to get at the dirt on the bottom of the tub. Great input guys.
      Thanks. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  9 дней назад

      Hi Steve, For 27,000 ltr this filter would not be big enough. You need to look at moving around 8,000 lph through the system. You would need either the Pro filter, if your going to be pump fed, or the Pro Mk2 filter, if you're going to be gravity fed, Here's a video of the Pro filter, ruclips.net/video/b4T8TkRTXAo/видео.htmlsi=8IFi2pkWH74ueqg8 the difference is with the Pro Mk2 all the barrels are on one level, and for the turnover you're looking for, you would need to use 3" to 4" pipework, to and through the filter. Hope this helps mate, Terry.

      Hi, This system was more of an experiment. I'd been ask so many times if 2 inch pipework could be used with this filter, so I built one. As it wasn't going to be on my pond too long (as I wanted to build a bigger system) I didn't bother with overflows. There so easy to fit and like you say I did show them on my last filter. You are correct, overflows will give peace of mind. Terry.

      What sized barrols did u use on this smaller version? - Looks hell cleaner compared to your earlier one(s) - but think it could be made looking even cleaner by putting most pipes on the back facing the wall - air controls could be fed into once vertical line on the short end to gain access to the on/off turn knobs - the only thing that would be visible @ front would be the drain pipes - just a thought - Im looking at building something like this, but my main problem is how to minimize the foot print and make the barrols not to stand out (not enough room to build a box around them - also need these barrols to be at the edge of my garden bed that is being watered with sprinklers all the time - so its a problem for me - good project that I like though (Even though the cost of K1 media and all these fittings, air blower, UV light etc etc would mean a pretty hefty price @ the end of the day - but I guess getting a pond clear comes @ a price ;)

      Yea, that looks heaps cleaner - is your drainage underneath now or doe these pipes wrap around to the back side? - and the connections between your barrels, do I see a valve in between or... Difficult yo make out from your video.

      all the air pipes and drainage is now on the bottom of the tubs. I have put 3 inch gate valves between each tub, but these are optional.

      +steve187 Hi Steve, Sorry I've not answered only RUclips's not letting me know when I have comments.
      Mainly just the first two, but I do give the moving bed a wipe round with a brush every now and then.
      Terry.
