    Out of all my Fuji lenses I think the 16mm f/1.4 has the most 3D pop, even when it's stopped down quite a bit.
    I don't understand why people say telephoto lenses have 3D pop when the compression makes the subject looks as thin as a piece of cardboard. 🤨 When people walk towards the camera with a telephoto lens on it looks like they're walking in place.

    • @trym2121
      @trym2121 Год назад

      No it doesn't. 3d Pop means you can distinguish the depth information very clearly even in the out of focus area.
      5:28 is a good example. Viltrox is flat where Zeiss has that characteristics. It's not just because focal length compression. Viltrox 27 has less contrast and micro contrast than newer Fooj 33 or 23. Viltrox always lacks the 3d pop

    • @AllThingsFilm1

    I do not think the Fuji X-trans sensor layout is conducive to 3D pop. 3D pop seems to be better on film, and on a Bayer sensor. I did own a Fujifilm camera which was Bayer, and compared to the T-trans sensor, it looked more natural (if you can call digital images natural).
    But even on Bayer sensors, not all in-camera imaging processors are conducive to 3D pop. The Blur in the low pass AA filter reduces 3D pop, so it needs to be AA filterless like a Pentax.
    But Bayer sensors have a thing called "Bayer Blur" which reduces the natural 3D pop you'd otherwise see if you had have using film in stead of a digital camera.
    You would need to get that Viltrox 75mm 1.2 in Sony mount to see the difference. I have a feeling the Viltrox will be better on a Sony then a Fuj

      Samyang 75 1.8 for X mount is good. Comparing the two lenses side by side it's also clear the Samyang is faster than f1.8 by about 2/3 of a stop. Don't know what that's all about, but there you go. It was the same comparing to other lenses, so it's not the viltrox lying, but Samyang being rather conservative.

    • @CianMcsweeney
      @CianMcsweeney Год назад

      @@brownbear100faster in terms of shutter speeds or dof? If shutter speeds, I'd presume that's due to the sheer amount of glass in the Viltrox reducing the overall light transmission

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 Год назад

      @@CianMcsweeneylight gathering and depth of field. When taking side by side shots with the 56 1.2, 75 1.2, 90 1.2, and Samyang 75 1.8 all shot at f2, the Samyang was very noticeably brighter. To get equivalent exposure to the others I consistently had to stop down by 2/3 of a stop regardless of subject. I shoot fully manually, so it wasn't the SS or ISO compensating, all settings were equal.
      This was also evident with depth of field when comparing the two 75mm lenses at the same aperture. This is harder to measure but the difference was clearly enough there and I would estimate 1/3 to 2/3 stop difference. But this is purely guestimating.
      I wondered whether it might have something to do with the samyang being a FF lens.

    • @CianMcsweeney
      @CianMcsweeney Год назад

      @@brownbear100 and did you notice any difference in focal length between the Viltrox and Samyang? It's very strange that the dof would be different otherwise

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 Год назад

      @@CianMcsweeney no difference in FL that I could tell, but even so that would only account for DoF not light gathering.
      Aperture ratings for lenses are never really truly exact as there will always be an element of rounding. And it's with the exposure you really do notice a difference that doesn't look just like a rounding issue. You could see tiny difference between all the lenses, but with the samyang it was to the extent I was double checking I hadn't knocked the SS or ISO (I hadn't) .
      It is odd. And the Viltrox is optically the better lens even though the Samyang has some nice tricks up its sleeve like corner to corner uniformity wide open with no vignetting. That it seems to be usable with a lower ISO in low light than its contemporaries is a strange but welcome "feature". Of course you can just open up the aperture with the 75 1.2 or 56 1.2, but this also can have other consequences.

    Fuji : jumpy autofocus, jumpy auto exposure and magenta like a pig. Man A7S III with 55 f1.8 looked so much better color wise it's not even funny. Fun fact I am a Fuji user and I always preferred their skin tones but lately it seems my vision changed as all I see now is magenta in Fuji. This 3d pop feel with Viltrox comes from compression and bokeh. It looks nice but definitely prefer Zeiss 55 look with more scene context yet you get same 3d pop feel. Can't reach that with APS-C and wider lenses unfortunately. Oh and one more thing I noticed during your stabilisation test...WB fluctuations are crazy on a Fuji, like really rapid changes.

    I think all the Viltrox lenses are bland. The 75 and 27 especially are quite incredible for producing rather boring flat rendering images despite their fast apertures. Don't get me wrong, these are good lenses for the price and sometimes flat and dull is fine and even wanted, but it does just go to show that a super fast aperture (in combination with focal length) doesn't always equal good pop.

      I have great pictures with my 75 that everybody stays surprise for how good they are. Perhaps is the photographer who do the pictures not only the lenses. They cannot do miracles. I can show you my pictures

      Not flat in the slightest. Sounds like you haven’t used one. I have owned over 10 Fuji lenses and the new Viltrox 13MM and 75MM are up there with Fujis best. The 18MM 1.4 is still the best lens for Fuji imo. Viltrox’s older lenses like the 23MM 1.4 are very flat.

    Zeiss is just a brand!
    Does not mean much, like every other brand on planet.

    5:30 Fuji is so magenta, and the face looks like a smartphone skin smoothing effect was applied 🤮 I guess Viltrox is just soft at 1.2.

    1. Why is it a Zeiss Level Lens? Kind of wired comparison. Comparing a lens that is 10 Years old and lens of today, and not to forget different focal lenghts I am loosing my marbles.
    2. I am not into Chinese lenses because I don't link any of them. There are many reasons not but buy Chinese lenses but also many reasons not to buy something else.
    3. Viltrox has not pedigree in lens manufacturing.
    4. Chinese lens manufactures copy industrial designs of other well know and well established camera makers. It is similar to all Chinese smart phone makers who are aiming at Apple's Iphone and taking the design language from them.
    5. Comparing a lens that is 10 Years old and lens of today.
    6. This lens is sharp. It is so sharp that it does not attract me because it lost a lot of characters compared to other lenses.
    7. The MTF is shit. and Viltrox only measures at 10 and 30 lines /mm - in the field it is not interesting
    8. Zeiss lenses are colour mateched. Are Viltrox lenses?
