This was one of the funniest reviews of a product I've seen. Quality content! I did buy this lens for my Fuji X-H2 still waiting for it to ship out and can't wait to test it out!.
Honestly, I love my viltrox 85 1.8. It has no aspherical elements, and it really shows with the bokeh - super smooth, perfect round bokeh balls without onion rings etc... I do recomend you take a look at it. The AF is pretty meh though.
Out of all my Fuji lenses I think the 16mm f/1.4 has the most 3D pop, even when it's stopped down quite a bit. I don't understand why people say telephoto lenses have 3D pop when the compression makes the subject looks as thin as a piece of cardboard. 🤨 When people walk towards the camera with a telephoto lens on it looks like they're walking in place.

What are you talking about? It has total 3D pop. Viltrox makes excellent lenses. Hands down. However, putting a good lens on a Fuji reveals the mediocre AF system most often expected from a Fuji camera.
No it doesn't. 3d Pop means you can distinguish the depth information very clearly even in the out of focus area. 5:28 is a good example. Viltrox is flat where Zeiss has that characteristics. It's not just because focal length compression. Viltrox 27 has less contrast and micro contrast than newer Fooj 33 or 23. Viltrox always lacks the 3d pop

I do not think the Fuji X-trans sensor layout is conducive to 3D pop. 3D pop seems to be better on film, and on a Bayer sensor. I did own a Fujifilm camera which was Bayer, and compared to the T-trans sensor, it looked more natural (if you can call digital images natural). But even on Bayer sensors, not all in-camera imaging processors are conducive to 3D pop. The Blur in the low pass AA filter reduces 3D pop, so it needs to be AA filterless like a Pentax. You would need to get that Viltrox 75mm 1.2 in Sony mount to see the difference. I have a feeling the Viltrox will be better on a Sony then a Fuj
5:28 Interesting, I can see far out-of focus area Zeiss have Gaussian-like circles, Viltrox is a bit donut, but in near out-of focus area it is opposite, Zeiss is donut with sharp edges but Viltrox looks Gaussian. Same as in recent Undone review of Arri prime lense it seems to be design and in theory even can be corrected by special addition diffraction optical elements.
After the cluster f&@k with the Viltrox 16mm AF issue I'm unlikely to risk buying this one. I have the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 so will stick with that. Don't need AF on a portrait lens.

Samyang 135mm 1.8 is still the sharpest corner to corner, this lens is not
1. Why is it a Zeiss Level Lens? Kind of wired comparison. Comparing a lens that is 10 Years old and lens of today, and not to forget different focal lenghts I am loosing my marbles.
2. I am not into Chinese lenses because I don't link any of them. There are many reasons not but buy Chinese lenses but also many reasons not to buy something else.
3. Viltrox has not pedigree in lens manufacturing.
4. Chinese lens manufactures copy industrial designs of other well know and well established camera makers. It is similar to all Chinese smart phone makers who are aiming at Apple's Iphone and taking the design language from them.
5. Comparing a lens that is 10 Years old and lens of today.
6. This lens is sharp. It is so sharp that it does not attract me because it lost a lot of characters compared to other lenses.
7. The MTF is shit. and Viltrox only measures at 10 and 30 lines /mm - in the field it is not interesting
8. Zeiss lenses are colour mateched. Are Viltrox lenses?
It definitely has that 3-D pop the Viltrox …!!
