What a huge pleasure to swim by boat, catch fish and then cook it and eat. It is even difficult to imagine that somewhere far there is a huge continent with a unique nature, not like any other. There warmly and people live freely and safely. A few years ago I was in Indonesia and communicated there with Australians. They are very friendly and sociable people. It happened after the flight MH17 was shot down above the Donbass. I was ashamed and sad because of this case, although I am a simple person and have no relation to this crime. I know that many Australians have lost their loved ones then. I ask you to take our condolences and understand that we do not affect the actions of our authorities. They are cruel and in relation to their population the same. I want to ask what. Fish that you caught reminds a major perch. We have a tradition to cook perch. It turns out a very tasty soup. Cooked fish with onions, sometimes with a cereal and potatoes. I understand that the fish soup is not very common in Western cuisine. But I recommend to try. This is delicious.

    Greate video Scotty!!
I watch your videos while working and honestly they keep my sane. While working through the most complex work I do. Huge value!!
For fish recipes mate, make up a set of small shakers (MSR do a small cook kit that comes with them). Fill the shakers with premixed herbs. Dried Lemon and Lime and Parsley works SO well. Chillies, garlic powder and ground Kaffir leaves for some thai flavour. Cardamom, Cumin, Mustard seeds and ground Fenugreek...thank me later lol.
Also if you're doing Mushrooms on the pan, put 1/2 an inch of water in the pan and boil the mushrooms in that first and just let it boil dry, then drop in your butter and seasoning. It's honestly worth the extra time for the diff it makes to flavour. If you drizzle a little honey (or if you find it, sugar sack) over them when you're finishing up they'll caramelize and it is a really nice bump for energy levels.
Thanks again mate. Keep it up.

Hey Scott as usual another great video mate. A simple but effective fish recipe I use is to mix flour, curry powder and lemon pepper seasoning in a clip seal bag. When your ready simply throw the fish in shake to coat then shallow fry in some olive oil in a frypan. Comes out with a crispy coating golden brown coloured and with the curry and lemon pepper tastes amazing. Simple easy to carry ingredients and well worth it. Try it and enjoy mate.

Hey Scotty! Great video and Happy November and all the best! Just a note, I see when you paddle every stroke you hit the canoe, that would be making a bang that will reverberate and travel through the water and probably scare or warn the fish. Maybe change your stroke to not hit your canoe on your paddle strokes and you might improve your luck and be able to sneak up on the fish with more luck. All the best CJ.

@@walterwhite5738 Unfortunaly this "fact" is an absolute myth presented for generations. There is no doubt carp is a pest in Australian waters but there is a large amount of false information against this fish. People believe it just because they red it somewhere. I understand there is no way to proof it but if you took all carp out of the water tomorrow, it will stay the way it is now. Colour of the water is mostly affected by temperature, oxygen levels, floral levels, geological composition and many others. Carp stiring bottom, specialy in the rivers, at the end.

    • @kdjat
      @kdjat 2 года назад +1

@@romansivak1081 They contribute to the poor quality of our river systems fact "Reduced water quality: Carp contribute to poor water quality by uprooting vegetation and stirring up sediments during feeding, leading to increased turbidity.
This in turn reduces light penetration, which can make it difficult for native fish that rely on sight to feed. Reduced light can also decrease plant growth, and suspended sediments can smother plants and clog fishes' gills."

A go to recipe for fish for me is stuff some garlic, ginger, parsley and a tiny knob of butter into the cavity. Salt and pepper it too. Drizzle the outer side with a little olive oil. Add chopped cherry tomato and a green veg,(I like silverbeet), parsley, spring onion or a small red onion, lemon zest and juice. Can throw in a herb of your choice if you like. Add a little water, emphasis on little as you are going to poach it. Cover the pot/pan how you like and put it on a medium low heat part of the fire or burner section. 20 minutes and you have a gorgeous meal. Eat with rice or cous cous or even some white beans.

    Fish recipe -
Clean the fish just as you have in this video, add 2/3 slices of tomato on the inside, 2-3 slices of onion, 3 slices of lemon (thin), as well as some finely minced garlic or a little bit of garlic paste. score the outside of the fish. rub some garlic paste thinly on the outside of the fish and get it in the score lines. use half a lemon or a full lemon and add the lemon juice to the inside of the fish as well as the outside and in the score lines. season to taste with a bit of salt and pepper if you like pepper.
Wrap in aluminium foil and cook over the coals or on a grill, flipping when appropriate and you can eat the fish clean off the bone and its delicious. I hope you try this, im from a latin background so its a simple latino dish. (nicaragua).
edit: oh and use some oil with the garlic obviously to reduce the stick and get a nice crispy outside

Quick comment about top water/floating lures, regardless of time of day.
Another trick is to place a split shot about 0.5 - 2meters away from the floating lure (not an exact measurement). Make sure the weight is a little heavier than the lure. This way, you can cast it out, the weight will hit the bottom & the lure will float to the end of the line, staying submerged, at whatever rough depth you’ve got it set at. You can reel it in fast, slow, or let it sit there for a few minutes. It only gets tricky when you get near submerged trees, the risk of tangling does seem to go up a bit.
I’ve always had good luck doing this, especially with jointed lures, even if they’re only 5cm.

So I have a line attached to that ring and use a mini stake to pull it back way above my (prone) head. Works a treat. But yeah, not the most spacious. But methinks it’s more of a European weather bivvy designed to keep yer alive in frozen conditions. You must try lemon slices inside the fish cavity! So odd to see you heading into summer as we head into winter camps! 👍😎🌲🇨🇦 p.s. was very sorry about your fires. We also had them bad in western Canada this past summer.

This is the spice he put on his breakfast toast, I had to look it up.
Dukkah is a traditional Middle Eastern blend of sesame seeds, nuts and spices. This Savoury Bush Dukkah adds the citrusy lift of premium Lemon Myrtle with the extra spice and warmth of wild-harvested Pepperleaf - two Bush Tucker delights.

I could be wrong but I think it was Governor Phillip who commented when arriving in what is now Sydney, how the countryside looked like an English park. How it was maintained by all the different indigenous peoples in the area. Looking further into this, it is something that should be explored further.

    g'Day Scotty. another great video.
The kindest way to kill any fish is to spear it between the eyes severe its brain its quick its clean and the fish doesn't suffer much, there are several tutorial on you on how to do it.
Its much more humane to kill any fish you intend to keep this way it is dead in seconds, rather than slowly suffocating over 20 minutes or longer.
Most folk who have never eaten carp will tell you it tastes muddy, It doesn't. Grilled over an open fire seasoned with a little butter and lemon (or any citrus) its quite tasty. You put garlic on the bass(?)

Mate with the fish put some sliced onion tomato and lemon inside the body add whatever herbs you like then wrap it in foil adding plenty of butter and cook it in the coals. Gourmet meal in the bush. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Bushyboy Oz.

The carp on ceviche or some like soup, we call "caldo" it's really nice, but you need to bleed out to make no fishy taste... some of us like that, or can check Asian carp recipes for that, also are great to get fun with, pulls more than bass or other fish! Greets from Mexico!

The North river arm also has some sunken tree's and is a good fishing spot, nice to see you've gone pro with your fishing! You should get in contact with Travis at Paddle & Portage Canoes, he's a local and knows some great spots & imports Wenonah canoes.
