    PicoGK Platform- Dual Metal AM

    EMIRATES
Using a computational model for the creation of space propulsion systems, LEAP 71 developed an Aerospike rocket engine based on physics and encoded engineering knowledge. Together with the Fraunhofer IGCV, a process was developed to print the engine from two metals (copper and steel). The collaboration involved encoding the complex interaction between the two metals during the printing process and iterating many times until the object was successfully printed. This is the largest object ever created using this process and the first time the process has ever been used in such a complex object. The object itself is one of the most complex designs ever 3D printed. The engine was created entirely using computer algorithms without the use of CAD. It is based on LEAP 71´s PicoGK framework, which is released as open source on Github.
Jurystatement: “PicoGK’s approach enables collaborative innovation, particularly valuable for industrial applications with complex parts. Democratizing generative design and optimizing part design through voxel-based material placement is a groundbreaking endeavor that brings complex dual-metal production and high design standards to end users. It embodies the future of AM with complete engineering via an open-source platform.“
