I love savory cornbread, made with buttermilk, baked crunchy on the outside. We eat pork chops, greens (collards or turnip greens) and blackeyed peas for New Years Day.

Happy New Year, Valerie! You have such a fun and engaging style of video. You do a great job of skipping the mundane (there’s no need to show the cook opening the can of tomatoes or chopping the onion, right?). I love that you show the good, the bad & the ugly. I expect you’ll make 100K subscribers in 2024! Best wishes!

I fix turnip greens or collards, black eyed peas, and boiled eggs on NYD. That’s when I don’t have a migraine. Today I have s migraine and am not eating anything. Fortunately, I don’t have to feed anyone but me. BTW, used a lot of your appetizer recipes for Christmas. Thank you! They were a big hit!

Happy New Year! Less is a traditional Southern meal, blackeyed peas, collard greens, hog jowls, rice and cornbread. A lot of my relatives like jiffy mix corn bread but i definitely prefer the traditional non-sweet cornbread, though i will eat jiffy mix. I sometimes eat butter with my cornbread but mostly I like it plain. Never used butter to cook it but usually will use bacon or hog jowl grease in my pan and pre heat it to 400°f. What city do you live in? I'm a Georgia boy (70 years old) but I stay in Johnston! Love 💟 your videos and today's recipes are delicious looking!

Great recipes!! To that fried cabbage, I would add a couple of ribs of celery diced small with the onion. I absolutely love cabbage. That black eyed pea dip, I believe I could eat that with a fork. I like savory corn bread, not sweet. My family calls sweet cornbread Yankee Cornbread. I like to make my cornbread batter, put a stick of butter in the freezer for about 30 minutes diced small and add it to my batter. I also like to make cornbread muffins, add about a teaspoon of jam and bake, so good. Happy New Year to you and yours!! Love your recipes. Always easy to prepare, simple ingredients and really tasty. My kind of cooking and baking. Thanx, Lady.

Thank you thank you thank you for this timely video from Carolyn in Chucktown, SC (like rebel girl!). I totally forgot all the good luck foods necessary for a good new year. And after a dismal 2023 when I forgot, I need it! Fortunately, I had everything (in different versions)and saw this before lunch. I had bbq pork in my leftover Brunswick stew, some sausage and cream cheese dip, frozen cabbage slaw, and leftover Jiffy corn bread now toasting in the oven. Hoping this will do the trick! 😂 Wishing you all a great new year. Keep those great videos coming Val. I love how quick and easy your recipes are. Happy New Year, Valerie! Love your recipes. I always cook my cornbread in a cast iron skillet that I add butter to and place in my oven first. But I just add a couple tablespoons. I think if you cut back from a whole stick it would rise as expected. Oh, yes, we love cabbage, too. Sometimes I fry it, but if I don't feel like standing over the stove, I cook it in the instant pot with onions and quartered potatoes.
