I have a friend who signed with Sony for $80M. He has to produce a certain amount of albums over a specific amount of time. So let’s say he’s been paid $60M of the $80M, and has one left. When he finishes that album he can re-sign with Sony or go to UMG. Sooner the better, he’s paid and on the open market. That’s the standard contract, and it’s the same type of contract NETFLIX has with the Harkle’s.
It keeps the artist, or in their case the clowns, locked away from the competition for a fixed period of time. So for H&M, NETFLIX has them locked away from Amazon or other competitors for very little money, as they’ve only produced one show that aired.
They probably thought they were being wise to tie their production company to the deal, but it’s a non-producing entity. Any production assistance they get from NETFLIX, even a ride to the airport and bottle of water, comes right out of their contract payments.
So how does this $100M contract sound now? Not very impressive.

I have trouble envisioning Meghan watching 2 children for 24 hours non stop, alone. You know…. like a mom!! It was a five year production deal with Netflix with a 100 million potential providing and based on the content of what they produce and contribute . They are only paid for what is produced and percentage of profit made. They have hardly put a dent in that.

The real power and class is her brother in law and his wife so there goes number 2 reason. She will never be as good as Princess of Wales. There were more interesting famous cooks than Meghan, who was never a cook:
Julia Child, Mary Berry, Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse, Nigella Lawson - been there, done that.
Where are the children?
Whatever eposodes of the cooking show that are competed will not necessarily be picked up and aired. Netflix decides that. She can probably take what's completed and pedal it elsewhere, legally, should she choose to. Good luck in that. It will be about as successful as lemonada trying to breath life into Archetypes.
