That photo speaks of someone to whom it's merely business. Is that the look of a man who is hurt by the death of a horse he is paid to train and take care of? There is no excuse at all for it, and there has to be a full investigation into Elliott.

Explain how you came to this conclusion, if you can construct an argument to support that. The facts are simple - the HORSE DIED OF A HEART ATTACK. IT DID NOT DIE BECAUSE GORDON ELLIOTT SAT ON IT. So what exactly is the trainer guilty of here, that would justify him losing his entire business resulting in not only his employees losing their jobs but also those businesses in the immediate area who provide various services to such a large successful operation? So please lay it all out there.
I find the sanctimonious bullsh1t being hysterically spewed all over the print and broadcast media (by former jockeys, trainers, pundits, and the Horse Racing Authorities in Great Britain & Ireland) to be hypocrisy of the greatest magnitude!! The only fault that can be laid at the feet of Gordon Elliott is INSENSITIVITY - that's all. The most he should get is a Month or Two Suspension, a Fine and, forfeiture of his percentage from purse money (Donate it to Animal Rights). His employees should not be penalized, the owners who stable horses with him should not be penalized, the punters who have already placed wagers on his horses for the big festivals should not be penalized - but that is exactly what will happen to them.

They give their best that gives us enjoyment in watching these marvellous creatures do what they do . All they ask for is that we look after them appreciate them , treat them with dignity, respect them , give them lots of love and attention , and yes I get terribly upset when something horrible happens in racing and then I say I’m not watching this sport any more but then I watch Dessie , Denman , Frankle etc and I can’t do that . So looking at what I’ve seen in the last two days has been in disbelief , horror , sad . I will carry on believing that good always diminishes crap .

If a horse of mine died while in training I would be devastated and I certainly wouldn't expect the level of disrespect and callousness that Gordon Elliott showed.

When David arrived to supervise things the horse gave him a hopeful look of what David described as a "ok boss, what do I do now" kind of look. It left him broken hearted as he knew the horse would have to be put down & he decided to give up training national hunt horses because that event affected him so much.

Anyone who TRULY loves horses would not get themselves into a situation like this full stop, it just simply wouldn’t happen. The fact this has happened could be indicative of other serious underlying issues within that yard that only they are privy to. This is a truly despicable scenario, but it exemplifies his contempt and disrespect for the animals upon which his reputation has been built. What I would like to know is who took the photo and why was it leaked now? As for Gordon Elliot there is no coming back from this, on a human level I have a smidgen of sympathy because nobody will associate themselves with him either now or in the future for a long long time, BetFair have just pulled the plug. Karma is a Bitch.

i was actually more shocked to see Mick Fitz pull horses in certain races where they had a penalty kick, then claim on live tv that he never did anything wrong as a jockey and now he is judging Gordon Elliott.

I have almost zero interest in horse racing. I can not believe what has been going on for the last few days regarding this matter. Yes he did a stupid thing. I think it was careless rather than malicious, but I think a huge fine would be the way to go. He is already deeply damaged by the affair. Some people are questioning the motives of whoever released the photograph. Irrelevant. I heard one rather well spoken lady on the radio talking about how he should be metaphorically hanged drawn and quartered, before declaring that she was involved in the industry herself. No one, with the exception of those involved in the retirement care of these horses, has clean hands in this industry. One stroke of a whip is more injurious and cruel to a horse than what Elliott did. When the screens go around a horse on the track to protect little old dears in the stand from having to see it shot, where’s the outrage. If the shooter then sat on the horse, that would make it worse? Let’s face it, it’s a barbaric sport, full of social climbers and forelock tuggers, and with the superwealthy at the top, including gangsters, and many others involved in human rights abuses. Yet the industry still accepts subsidies running to billions, not to mention tax breaks.
Of all the animal lovers I have heard pontificating over the last few days, I have not heard a single one ask the question as to the circumstances of the horses death. Was he ran beyond his capacity? Had he an unidentified condition? Was he (or she) old? All more important than what happened to him post mortem.
The “damaged” horse racing industry will have its sacrificial lamb, then it will be business as usual. What a superficial world we are living in.

A 'sport' that exists for no reason other than lining the pockets of betting companies, punters, riders and of course, the trainers. If as many racing drivers or boxers died as horses do when raced, boxing and motor racing would be banned. We simply do not value the life of animals the way we value the life of human being. A quite incredible reality especially when considering just what animals do and have done for humanity. Caring for horses and having them as pets is wonderful. But any coward who jumps on the back of an animal and makes them jump fences as a means of earning a living is the lowest form of a human. None of these so called trainers would be doing this so called job if it wasn't for the money. If they really really loved the horses, they'd never put them through exertions even if there was 5 percent chance of death.

Well said Mr Fitzgerald, showing true class and compassion on behalf of the great majority, which is a fantastic and caring British and Irish horse racing fraternity.
This photo indeed was horrific and sad and a very poor portrayal.
Thankfully this is an isolated incident and should undoubtedly raise concern, but mustn’t drag down the racing industry.
The individual or any individuals involved must be brought to justice and reprimanded accordingly.
