Thank you!
I remember a year ago when Simon Snake Boisvert told Tony that Riley Kidney, Sean Farrell, Filip Mesar, Luke Tuch and others would most likely not be NHLer and he was laughed at in the chat and comments because they had good stats in junior. Even Tony was like "Are you crazy?". Most of these forwards are 21-22 today and not impressive vs rookies or in camp. Most fans forgot that Andrigettho, Hudon, DeLaRose, Poehling, Reway, Ylonen etc, were all at some point also identified by them as future top6-top 9 guys.
Brian needs to be a regular. Great hockey mind
The good ol'Marinaro and a very professional and entertaining guest I love it and this deserves a sub.
The name that I heard that excited me the most this podcast was...MAX! No offense to your other guests but he is the best...no no...He is SICK! Max can't wait to hear what you gotta say. I wish I understood french. Great show tonight Tony!
About Mailloux, you can teach a guy to be more effective defensively, but what Mailloux possesses in terms of skills, speed and size, you can't teach. Give two years to Mesar and he will be a David Desharnais. Mesar is an outstanding playmaker and he will be a good NHL player
If the NHL has told me anything in 40 years you can get better defensively but it's very rare to get a lot better. It takes a ton of commitment.
Your right about Mailloux, he’ll be one of our top pair d if he’s still here.
Beck and Mesar were taken within 7 picks of each other. If Beck was taken late first and Mesar early 2nd round no one would have a problem, lets just be happy with what we have and let the others have more time.
What an interesting point. I like this. However, I’d say that Mesar was drafted to play top 6 and Owen beck was always considered a 3rd line center at best. Can Mesar play in the NHL if not in the top 6?
@@Barney5G Perhaps not but we also have to accept the potential possibility that not every draft pick from Hughes and Gorton regime hits...Mesar may not make it and thats OK too. I hope he makes it but we have enough small guys as is.
@@Barney5G Only 30% of first round picks after 20 even make the NHL, if either guy hits in any role the draft team did their job, if they both hit it’s an huge draft year (think Dallas Stars getting Johnston at 23 and Stankoven 47)
See, I like that attitude. Seriously. THank you. All we do is complain complain complain, in Montreal. We have a dynasty in the making. Habs4Life
@@darrenpinard1658agreed - even more so...Huston in the late second round and Fowler in third who by all accounts will be an NHL goalie at some point.
Sweet looking stereo in the background Brian!
The last time the Canadiens had a forward who transition the puck from defense to offense and also just transitioning the puck in the offensive zone, it was since they had Kovalev and Dach is that next forward in doing that and he's hard to knock off the puck but health is the biggest concern surrounding him.
Overall Suzuki is going to be greater than Dach because he's more well rounded he plays in every situation, I mean Suzuki kills penalties Dach does not.
If Dach regularly turns out to be a 50 to 60 point player with a good +/- rating then I'm great with that.
I was so impressed by Dach when he was playing. Circling the whole offensive space looking for openings and his puck protection was so good. He doesn’t lose the puck in the center of the ice using his size.
Suzuki finds openings but Dach creates them so it is a very good center combination for 1-2 lines
@@benoitbrouillette6481 Yes Suzuki and Dach could maybe make a great 1-2 punch down the middle no matter whose the first or second line center, just like Suzuki and Danault.
Sick as usuallll
A great comparison to Dach is probably Ryan Getzlaf in terms of their style of play but it doesn't mean I'm saying he's going to reach his level of greatness though.
Wilde said: Dach is not injury prone....he is just unlucky. The result is still the same !!!
I can't agree here, Dach saw Huge Tinordi and still went forward like nothing was gona happen near the boards. He got snash, if he slows down there the injury never happens. I do hope for the best for him.
Yes, Dach is unlucky like Brian is saying but at the same time he's also injury prone too, both can be true at the same time.
Injury prone means a player is not so durable on a regular basis, that's what Brian needs to understand.
A guy like Suzuki is durable...Indeed, Dach is injury prone, this is likely why Chicago gave up so early on a 3rd overall pick !!!
Is Tony high? The WHL is by far the hardest to get points in, not the easiest. That’s the Q.
Dach is a big piece for sure because I expect him to be the replacement of Danault's impact as the second line center. From since Danault's departure we haven't had a second line center.
I would add to the "injury" controversy that's been going on that Maxim Lapierre, a very relaxed guy on podcasts, was annoyed and didn't mince words: " when you compete hard, when you're an intense player, injuries happen, that goes with the territory. That's the type of players and team we want and have. Get a grip, people. Injuries will happen." like Brian Wilde says, it will all come down to "luck".
Sick
Mesar was a great skater on big ice, he may need to adjust to smaller ice longer…
Slaf was a bust a year ago… apparently 🤷♂️
Reinbacher isnt flashy but he looked the most NHL ready with how he played the position. Everyone else needs a ton of work defensively.
Expectation is silly. Hes very good defensively. And thats what this team needs. They have at least 3 Defensemen who dont do defense.
I agree on Beck, he looked impressive to me. Or a very solid 2way.
My only critique for the crave rebuild special: i feel like it was made exclusively for fans of the team. I have a lot of friends id love to introduce to the sport and team, that wouldnt appreciate all the nuance and specificity of the show.
Perhaps but if it was about the New York Yankees, would it matter if they brought up the rich history and pressure of the market.
There is no other team like Habs in the league…
Makers of show need to have a storyline and context
28:20 wow I didn't know Brian Wilde had that in him... very well descripted....!!!
Suzuki had 96,100,89 point OHL seasons as a 17-18,18-19, 19-20 year old including 23pts in 17 playoff games (junior) as a 17 year old and 42pts in 24 games as a 20 year old (Memorial Cup Champ + MVP). 407pts 309 GP in the OHL. Dach (WHL): 137 pts in 143 GP (including playoffs). Dach would’ve benefited from an extra year in juniors considering the terrible situation in Chicago. Plus the injuries. He has the size, talent and all the tools. It’s a matter of time. He has a lot less mileage than Suzuki. The potential is there however he doesn’t strike me as a 30 goal scorer. More of a 20-25/40-45 guy.
He didn't win the memorial cup and got most sportsmanlike player not MVP during it
I love that people are keeping on the sleeping giants that are the Habs…
Especially how much people are sleeping on Roy, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Engstrom…
Just love it, I don’t expect playoffs but this team will surprise the league this year like New Jersey did 2 years ago
Well that would mean a 100+ point season which tbh I wouldnt be upset about
People aren't sleeping on any prospects in Montreal. As a matter of fact...it is totally the contrary !!!
They have the Habs at 76 because of the Peter Principle.
Logan is going to be our new Weber
.... and a better skater
Now these are long questions.
La bittt a Tibi🤣
Sorry Tony but I strongly disagree with you and your comment about the WHL and so does Brian, and the look on his face says exactly what I'm thinking as well...... I don't think so......
(That look 👀??? said it all)
Come on Tony, the QMJHL is the weakest league in the CHL. They have produced less players than any league in Canada in the modern era.
Yes Dach is a huge piece as 2C, Newhook could fill in if needed but it’s a completely different looking top 6 with Dach there.
I am of the mind that Laine - Dach -‘s linemate should either Roy or Newhook
I would love to see Roy there as a set up man.
Dump and chase doesn’t really fit Laine or Dach as they both like and are efficient at driving the puck over the blue line.
Dach is a PWF, 2Way and playmaker in one having him and Roy there setting up Laine could be a great combo.
Roy is a smart 2 way playmaker, who can also snipe ( this is where I think his skill would be wasted in bottom 6 ) but doesn’t have the speed or physicality yet to retrieve consistently over 82 games.
Newhook could work there with his speed, he is solid when is healthy, so a dump in chase would not be his true role.
Anderson is more of a north south player while Dach / Laine can be more of roomers, Andy is not great at passing, his speed and grit would be better suited for bottom 6, driving the net

Matheson
Roy on PP2 with his linemates as the right shot sniper and distributor along with Dach and D, with Gallagher as net front
Matheson, Dach and Roy all feeding one timers to Laine while all being shooting threats themselves.
2 viable pp units is a huge factor to making playoffs
The other 4 forwards are reserved for PK
Evans - Armia
DVO - Anderson
Maybe Suzuki + Slaf to kill off last 30 seconds and capitalize against a tired opposing Pp unit
Keep everyone fresh, lines mostly together for rolling 4 5v5 lines.
This Is how I would armchair the coaching staff use current available player formations
St Louis has options, things will change over the season both with injuries or stagnation.
With all healthy coaches can even set lines according to the opposition.
For all I know maybe Mario Jr Mr Armia himself could get a look there to get his trade value up
It’s gonna be a fun year to watch.
No expectations just looking forward to new kids coming up
Team “Dach is injury prone” have never played sports. They can’t understand the difference. Mind you it’s quite simple. Not everyone is intelligent…
Nope, it's the defense.
Lmao so what about the players that are not point per game players in juniors that become point per game players in the NHL???? Mark Stone before he was drafted never had a Point per game season in the WHL and only after he was drafted did he have amazing seasons playing in the WHL, If Kirby Dach went back to the WHL he would have had seasons like that as well 100+ points, Mark Stone has had 3 point per game seasons in the NHL just can’t stay healthy, Look at all the junior European players who never touch point per game seasons in their respective leagues and become superstars at the NHL level… It’s just such a dumb argument in my opinion lmao just because a player doesn’t hit a bunch of points in the WHL or any junior league doesn’t mean they won’t become great players at the NHL level.. Kirby Dach is far better than he was when he was in the WHL… If Dach can have some better luck I think it is possible for him to hit 82+ points, I don’t believe he will always be a PPG player but I could see him having a couple PPG seasons… Suzuki hit 100 points in the OHL, What if he doesn’t hit 100 points in the NHL??? Does that mean he’s a horrible player? No lmao… it’s possible to not hit the amount of points you hit in juniors, but it’s also entirely possible for you to hit more points than you did in juniors in the NHL… It’s a better league where you play with better, Older, faster, smarter, Stronger players…
Huh? Western league easy to get points? Opposite there Tony
Got to get rid of Barron.
Please stop that song !! Please !! Its very anoying !!
Thanks for not having Pierre Mcquire on. Boring as shit obsessive name dropper ...Its like when the great scotty bowman said to me "Peirre i will tell you this Pierre...blaw blaw. Tony, I listen to your show on route to work and enjoy it and sometimes get some good laugh (the Snake/yourself and some other guests)
I was impressed with thorpe and davidson although both are likely bottom 6 forwards. Mesar and farrell are career AHLers IMO
Dach is the most hyped player that done nothing
This is the reply that offers the least to the conversation.
I assume Romanov fan?
Your a hyped person to😅
Dach comparable: a poor man’s joe nieuwendyk. Ish
If he is right on Reinbacher, then we are screwed on D and desperately need a future 1st PAIRING RHD
Reinbacker is a 2023 draft, all the other D are 2021 or older he looks great for his age.
Personally i believe Reinbacher has 40-45 point potential, will eat up a lot of minutes and be a very very solid defensive player… If Lane Hutson reaches his potential then having reinbacher who will eat a lot of minutes and still give you let’s just say 35 points a season, I believe he’s got a little more potential, But for argument sake let’s say 35 points, Thats still fine lmao… Both of your top guys don’t need to be PPG D men… Reinbacher still has time to develop let em do that and I’m sure fans will be happy with him… Reinbacher was never gonna be an offensive D man he was always gonna be an elite two way d man and with how good he is defensively, If he can still produce 35-45 points that’s still very good… Not to mention Mailloux who will be a big physical offensive D, He will never be as good as Reinbacher defensively but Mailloux could be a physical offensive stud… This Habs D core has A LOT of balance to it… This is why we don’t need another D because of the balance we have… if the Habs were depending on Reinbacher to have the offensive potential that Hutson has then we would be screwed but we are not dependent on him to be that… We need Reinbacher to be that guy who eats a lot of minutes and can play a ridiculously good defensive game while letting Hutson be that offensive Star… On our second pairing we will likely have Two absolutely physical threats in Guhle and Mailloux in the future which is another plus… This D core like I said is well balanced… We don’t need to depend on 1 D like Colorado depends on Makar or The Rangers depend on Fox, Because we have a lot in our top 4… This is actually a better situation in my opinion because it never gives the other team a break… Let these guys develop and you’ll see.
Reinbacher could be our Hedman, if only he got meaner but if he is a reliable strong 2 way top 4 it’s a huge win of a draft pick at his size , skating and Skill
I see him as a top pairing D a couple of years on Ghule’s right side until he is ready to pair up along Hutson
At which time Ghule will be paired with Mailloux
In 2-3 years
Hutson - Reinbacher
Ghule - Mailloux
Wifi - Engstrom
