  • What is Demisexuality? Is it just a low sex drive? Are autistic people more likely to fall on the asexuality spectrum? What challenges does being Demisexual present during dating?
In this episode of the Thoughty Auti Podcast, Thomas talks to the popular autistic RUclipsr Sam (@Yo Samdy Sam) about Demisexuality and how it ties in with autism.
They chat about the experience of being a RUclipsr at first, but soon dive into the research behind autism and asexuality, their experiences being autistic in the dating scene, and their own personal journey with learning more about the ACE spectrum.
With the ever growing list of words in the English language, it's difficult to sift out the important terms from the multitude of identities and descriptions of phoneme on the internet. Alexithymia, sensory differences and aversion to social norms seem to be large players in the cross over between ASD and demisexuality... but is demisexuality real, or is it just a low sex drive?!
We shoot straight for the heart of the most common difficulties experienced by those who identify as being demisexual, and offer our own personal views on this relatively unknown, ostentatious and wacky sounding term!

I'm a hetero attracted demisexual man. The thing about "that's just being a woman" is amusing because the concept that there are men out there with this experience blows their mind. Great podcast

I first learned about asexuality and demisexuality from YoSamdySam’s video. It was pretty relatable.
On the comment where some people have the attitude that is it normal for women to not want sex, growing up I believed that was true, until I saw something some years back where a woman had said women want sex as much as men do, or something like that. Prior to such a direct comment I didn’t really question it.
I must have internalised something I heard male characters on tv say, when I was young.

That was a very good podcast, which I feel is a quite important discussion. I too feel that asexuality and autism can quite often go hand in hand, although not every autistic person feels like this of course.
