If you're interested in a way to preserve your eggs longer try the water glassing method - ruclips.net/video/-Xwa6A5wWj4/видео.html (also did another video tasting the eggs after 10 months in the jar! - ruclips.net/video/G7Qon0DOaoY/видео.html
Than you. I have about five 18 egg cartons in my fridge dated for expiry of 10-04-2023. I remembered part of what my mom told me, but I was not sure. I thank you (and Mom.)
Thank you so much for this video im testing a bowl of eggs watching alone and now i can see from what youve shown the good bad and okay ones much appreciated 🙏🏻
It just varies a lot depending on the egg! If I find any like that I use them in baking within the next day or so, otherwise might pay to try floating them again if left for another few days (the only 100% way of knowing is by cracking them open, but trust me the smell is not pleasant if you get it wrong!)
Been using this for years. This past week I had almost a dozen horribly rotten eggs out of 12 dozen. I always test eggs and wash as I need them. How exactly did these pass the float test? When I say rotten,I mean brown putrid “whites” and green black moody yolks. I’m traumatized. I use a light now to see inside of them.
Ewwww yes I've cracked one of those open before! Takes forever for the smell to leave the kitchen too lol ... not sure how they'd pass the float test but I guess there's always exceptions to the rule!
lol ... I'm sure you'll live to see tomorrow 😜 ... sometimes the floating ones are still borderline fine to eat and trust me, if you break open one that's gone bad you'll know all about it so I wouldn't stress!
Yes... that's informative and all fine and dandy... but is the "stale" egg inedible for cooking or scrambling? There is one video where a guy ate year old eggs and apparently didn't die... so do you have scientific EVIDENCE that eating eggs that float are Unfit or deadly for consumption or is this just an old Wives Tale?
I'm certainly no scientist, but have cracked open the odd rotten egg myself and can vouch for how much they stink out the kitchen 😂 ... some of the floaters might be borderline fine but it's up to the individual if they want to risk it - it's just an indication of how old they are, as the air sacks inside get bigger as they age. If it floats and you're still keen I'd crack it into a cup before cooking just in case! I have eaten 10 month old eggs myself but only after using the "water glassing" method that I also did a video on.
floating can also note that an egg is fertilized and unless you are accustomed to opening eggs with baby bird bits in it, i would avoid anything floating unless your trying to hatch. and thanks for the video CW-NZ was very helpful.
Oh what went wrong? Bad one sunk to the bottom? The reason this is a good indication is the older the egg is the bigger the air sac inside gets, which is why it gets bouyant when it's older ... I guess there's always exceptions with every rule!
Hey, thanks for the comment - just to put your mind at ease the actual wings themselves don't get clipped - just the tips of the feathers on one wing, which stops them from gaining too much height so they can't fly right over 6 foot fences etc - it's quite a common practice and if done properly doesn't hurt them at all (a bit like trimming your hair or nails), good for keeping them safe when there's pigs etc in the next paddock that could do them some harm 😊
As far as I've heard they act in a similar way as chicken's eggs in that the fresher they are the more likely to sink - I'm no expert on duck eggs though so might have to look that one up!

Before I learned this neat trick, I ate an omelet with all floaters and got a bad tummy ache. Thank you for sharing! Mike in the US.
Glad to be of help!

Fingers crossed for not too many floaters! 😊
This is an awesome share! Now you have some yummy eggs to eat but it was fun to watch some of them bouncing. So cool!
Yeah just glad I found them before I stepped on them - it was close! haha

Ty. I didn't know this.
Always happy to inform - thanks for feedback 😊
I love the kids having fun with this 🥰🥰🥰
haha - yeah I love what amuses them!
Brilliant advice. Thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
If you hard boiled eggs how long could you keep them in the fridge after.... in the shell
I'm not an expert but I've been told about a week for hard boiled eggs if they're still in the shell 😊
Next time I will do this test in Supermarket itself before buying any eggs.
haha - would love to see the storeperson's reaction!
Thanks such great help
You're welcome!
Thanks! Be blessed in the name of Jesus! Sharing has blessed many if us.♥️🇺🇸
Thanks so much 😊
Can you feed the floating eggs to the dogs? What other options are there for the floating eggs? Is it ok to compost them?
No apparently they're not safe for dogs once they've gone off ... no reason you couldn't compost them though!
How soon do you need to use the “sooner rather than later eggs”?
It just varies a lot depending on the egg! If I find any like that I use them in baking within the next day or so, otherwise might pay to try floating them again if left for another few days (the only 100% way of knowing is by cracking them open, but trust me the smell is not pleasant if you get it wrong!)
@@CheaperWaysNZ thanks so much!!
Oh! So they were right about the witch testing method after all.
haha - yeah same theory I guess, never thought of it that way 😂👍

Thank you ,super helpful .
You're very welcome 😀
The ones that tip but stay on the bottom...alright to bake with??
Yep that's fine - usually what I use them for!
Thank you!
What if my local eggs yolk breaks when cracking it open? What does that mean?
Probably just means they're a bit old but doesn't mean they're not edible

If you float test the eggs do they lose their bloom?
Yes that's the only thing - so you'd still want to use them fairly soon! I generally just put them in the fridge and use over the next week.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
nice test !
Thanks!
Heroic eggs.
The ones the sank were the heroic ones.
Aww c'mon! Everyone wanted to see u open one of the rotten ones.
😂 ... last time I did that I couldn't get rid of the smell for days lol
What happened if I eat 7 floating eggs by mistake? Please tell me fast and save my life.
lol ... I'm sure you'll live to see tomorrow 😜 ... sometimes the floating ones are still borderline fine to eat and trust me, if you break open one that's gone bad you'll know all about it so I wouldn't stress!
Just used some super market eggs and 1 was float in my pot of water so I dumped it.
Yeah you never know with supermarket egg sometimes!

Old wives tales got old because they work. Without them, you and I wouldnt even exist.
Maybe you could find a more polite way to word your question.
From the thumbnail I thought it was Alton brown lol
LOL! Not quite sure how to respond to that ummmm ... thanks? 😂
I appreciate the info, but think you could have done this in less than 4 min?
I don't mind if you fast-forward 😀👍
@@CheaperWaysNZ excellent response! Thanks. I did.
This is a life-saver. Or egg-saver?🙄
haha - yeah, good thing to know!
did not work for me

Before I knew I was cooking rotten eggs 😅 but I didn't eat 😊😅😅
lol ... oh there's a very special type of smell when you crack a bad one open 😂
Now rotten eggs phobia i test every eggs before i cook 😂😂
😂👍
Didnt like my observations? Put yourself in their shoes. Cutting off their "arms" is so cruel, but hey who cares right? It ain't me.

That's ok I don't mind if you skip ahead 😀👍
If an egg floats right on top & does circles, it may be a duck's egg, right? 🦢🦆
