- Episode 2 of our Sail to Tahiti trip onboard the brand new Excess 11 Te Ava. We sailed from Cascais in Portugal to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It was a fast and furious downwind run in 30 knots of wind and 4 meters swells...see how it felt for real !
Great video and very compelling for those seriously considering the XCS line. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your journey! Safe travels.
Thanks a lot !
Looking good!
Remember pace car editions of automobiles? That's what I think of when I see an Excess Catamaran. They are Lagoon's pace car edition.
Show your sails, would love to see how you trim them. Great video!
Thanks . I ll try to show the sails and maneuvers more in the next one
Formidable!
At 06:40 - that was no vinegar but wine!! Regards from Vienna to all and specially to Benoit , Sylvia+Helmut
Benoit says hi! I understand now why we were a bit drunk! Benoit was using vine instead of vinegar !
Hi, how was your sails in these different wind speeds? I saw your jib partially furled but the mainsail was not showed in the video
Hello, we had 2 reef most of the time
@@SAILTAHITI Thank you very much for the quick answer, I will sail an Excess 11 from France to Brazil next month and your videos is giving me good tips
Great boat I couldn't live with that helm though.
Would seriously consider buying one otherwise.
Hello Jon, thanks for your comment. I have sailed more than 12 000 nautical miles on the Excess 11 (and many more on other boats) and love the helm station. You get the feeling of steering a real sailboat not a camper van. When the weather is bad you just use the autopilot and if you need to get to the helm it s easier than if you had to climb on a flybridge. But everyone has their own preferences, that s the beauty of sailing ! Anyway if you come sailing in Tahiti let us know, we are always happy to meet sailors and have a chat
Nice video. How is the Cat on light winds like 5-10 knots apparent? Looking at boats Cats really check all the boxes except for price....
Hi Francis, thanks for your nice comment. I have been surprised as how well the Excess 11 sails in light wind. In 5 to 8 knots of wind we have sailed almost at wind speed if you have an angle between 50 and 150 degrees from the apparent wind. In stronger winds an Outremer will go much faster but in small air the Excess with the Pulse rigging and the code zero accelerates quickly. The Excess 11 is also one of the most affordable catamaran on the market but as there are none pre owned for sale yet it still is a lot of money...Let us know if you want to sail in the Pacific I ll be happy to help you find a boat. We are based in Tahiti and have cats in a lot of different price ranges ...www.sailtahiti.com to see them all
@@SAILTAHITI Thanks for the detailed reply from someone with experience on the Cat. A YT channel said it uses the same mold as the Lagoon? If that's true that's a wonder in light winds. Thinking performance Cat really makes a difference in light winds, even non performance cats go faster in heavier winds but must motor on light winds. Cheers you have a nice videos on your channel.
@@francisdelacruz6439 Thanks Francis ! The Excess 12 and Excess 15 used the same hull moulds than the Lagoon 40 and Lagoon 50 but everything above the hull was designed to be lighter and they carry more sails. The Excess 11 is built using a completely different mould, as will the new Excess 14 that will be unveiled in Cannes. They are made in the same factories than Lagoon which enables the company to keep costs lower than top end brands like Outremer etc but the design team has done a lot of work on increasing performance...
@@SAILTAHITI That's good to know that these are more performance oriented specially the new designs which differentiates them really from Lagoons.. Thanks for your feedback on this. Will keep this in mind when looking at these Cats.
👍
SHOW THE SAILS
spent 15 minutes on one of those at boatshow... more than enough time to decide not to buy one.. if you don't sail offshore 7/24 then you need to see 10 to 50mts front of the bow regularly... this cat delivers things that many ppl don't need... and no, you can't see shi(f)t through the saloon windows... stern cabins were great tho...
Sorry you got this impression in just 15 minutes. I have delivered many Excess catamaran for our clients and sailed offshore as well as inshore. You re right the visibility in front is better with a flybridge but you loose most of the sailing feelings monohulls, sport catamarans, trimarans give you. It s a choice to make. If you want to spend more time come and sail in tahiti where we have our charter base. We have different brands of catamarans and I ll give you a discount. Send me an email at David@sailtahiti.com
