Funny thing though she may have intended it as an insult, calling Issac "The least interesting man in Dracula's court" but coming from her, Issac took that as a compliment.
As he knew the only interest Camilla has in men is how she can use them and/or take from them which his case was nothing. Issac could not be manipulated by Camilla nor could she take anything away from him and they both knew it.😂

Carmila’s death is significant, too. She “took” her own life, rather than allow a man to take it from her. As a final act, it underscored her values perfectly.
Carmila is the embodiment of the phrase “gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss” 😂
I like Carmilla as a contrast to Dracula in the show. They’re both people utterly defined by their moment of greatest pain and their inability to ever let go of it. The difference is Dracula’s pain is relatively fresh, still an active and evolving part of him, whereas Carmilla’s is so old it has ossified into the core of her very being. Dracula can still have a moment of shattering revelation that takes the pain that moved him from merely a dangerous person with a grotesque past to an omnicidal maniac, and turns it against itself even if just for a moment. He can accept and surrender that pain when he realises it is the ghost of love. Carmilla cannot and does not, ever. Her pain is built into her deeper enough she can function quite precisely and rationally around it where Dracula Barry exists at times, but it is such a part of her she would almost cease to exist without it. In the end, that pain is so much greater than the fear of death that when death is the only alternative to potentially going back to that loss of power and control, she is nearly enthusiastic about dying.

I find that people hate Carmilla, but I liked her? She was interesting, terrifying and evil.
Dracula was always so slow and methodical. Carmilla was funny and she kept me on the edge of my seat.

I think she knew how to get what she wanted, but she was so brutal, devouring and hungry that she ended up having an ego the size of fricking Olympus Mons.
I struggle at times thinking back on my abusers, and even ended up realizing very recently that I've taken up some of her mannerisms. I ended up saying and doing things I remember her doing to me thinking back. I struggle with trying to maintain control. I shut people out and I keep myself at an arms length. I was told by a now ex that I wasn't the same person anymore. I look back and I'm horrified at what I've done. I've done what I can to make up for my mistakes, and while things will never be the same, and I will never be the same. I don't want to end up going town a path that ended up ruining my life and hurting people that were once like me.
It's a daily struggle, and this video really helped put things into perspective.

That’s not an issue that just Carmilla is dealing with, all people feel a continuous need to transcend their current situation whether it’s with things, money, knowledge, security, people, etc. “money doesn’t buy happiness” so what does? Carmilla just takes that failure to find fulfillment to an extreme level, believing that only in possessing the entire world will she think that it’s “enough”
Carmilla was the series' definition of a Vampire:

Her spite against the world and her selfishness only made it worse.
Hell, I'd argue that half the reason she pointed out Dracula never made Lisa into a Vampire, even calling her a pet, was because she was jealous deep down od what he had with her.
Especially since she was turned and then emotionally and phisically abused until she broke. She either won't let herself or is no longer phisically capable of having that kind of relationship with someone.
Even with her closest friends, her vampire sisters, she basically shuts them out once she's left to her own devices.
Carmilla is a pitiable character , but Isaac had the right idea when he decided the world was better off without her.

As much as i hate it, i have to admit that i can empathize with Carmilla. Cruelty in my past has lead me to be very quick to bristle at the first sign that i might be dealing with someone similar to those who have wronged me; it takes a lot of mental effort to catch myself and think twice about the situation in those instances.

I heard once that the reason she hates Isaac/ finds him boring, is because she dosen't have anything she can use to manipulate him. He's not attracted nor afraid of her. Not swayed by material possession. Does not go seeking for more power that he could not get for himself and was loyal to Dracula to a fault.

Ironically in a way, Carmilla had the slightest speck of respect for Issac out of any man in the series. She tried to reason with him by telling him where Hector was. And now he is living rent free in her mind as she is waiting in hell for him so she can try to kill him again. The most "boring" man she has ever met has now become the one she is obsessed with.
Carmella fittingly enough served as a good foil to Hector and Isaac in that the latter two were able to grow as people and reach a point they could live constructive lives.
Isaac took the Captain’s words to heart and seems to have dedicated his life to trying to teach people how to live better and kinder lives. Hector has dedicated himself to writing a book which he hopes will help future generations avoid their mistakes.
Both men also managed to ultimately avoid becoming their abusers as evidenced by Isaac choosing to lead a constructive life and Hector respecting Lenore’s decision even if he did not like it.
Carmella by contrast never grew beyond her anger and hurt and went onto not only repeat the cycle of abuse. But escalated it to the point she was destructive not only to herself but literally anyone nearby and in this case “nearby” is relative
I love how she cosplays as every character she analyzes its real dedication to the part! Literally getting into their shoes.
As for my thoughts about Carmilla i think she is a victim of the patriarchy and the social structures of the time. She was probably treated as property her entire life and abused during her afterlife and she is angry she cant retaliate against men with not just anger of the social structures of the time but also the trauma that she endured in the past as in Striga's and Morana's talks they address she has nightmares of her time being abused.
She wants to take everything from everyone else so she doesnt have to worry about having everything taken from her again as well as to have agency. And thats why her fight with Isaac ended that way.
Its not Isaac taking everything from her its her having a sense of agency and choice in choosing to die by her own hands rather than by the hands of someone who is adamant in taking everything from her in the name of revenge
She could even try Alucard if she wanted. Not too far off from his features imo. He was a very pretty design for a male character

Her moment of clarity comes just before her death. She looks up at a window as sees her reflection of herself and smiles. I think she finally sees how far she’s come and all that she’s achieved. She acknowledges that the scared woman abused by her master had outstripped him. She finally seems proud of herself. She finally has enough, just before it’s all taken from her. Although she does plan to climb another mountain with a “sharp bloody stick and the determination to find out if you can die twice.”
It’s common in the military for officers and NCO’s to also take each other aside out of the view of the rank and file when an ass chewing needs to happen to make sure someone knows their place in the greater scheme of things without undermining them in front of the kids.

I think it’s also worth noting that her choosing to take her own life wasn’t just an act of spite against Isaac for beating her, but rather it’s her wanting a sense of control over her life, even at its ending. She’s spent the most traumatic part of her life powerless, and so she feels the need to have control because in her mind it means that she’s free and safe from being hurt again. When she looks at her reflection in the window before she commits to her death, there’s a look of resignation, confirming that she knows she can’t possibly win this, but she’s too prideful to simply run away, so her final line of “I win” is again her narcissism rationalising that even when she’s lost, she’s still doing so on her terms. She doesn’t want Isaac, a powerful human man who she sees as less than her, to have the satisfaction of taking her life from her since she feels that so much has already been taken in the past.
Too be fair, she couldn't have run away, Issac had her trapped with the magic barrier Hector had set up. Not to say that she wasn't proud and narcissistic, but the fact that she exploded after her death in a way that could have killed Issac had he not quickly retreated to safety does make her actions more reasonable from a practical perspective.
Carmilla has to feel like everything was her own choice, she cannot lose in her mind. The thought of being defeated is not even on her mind.
@@Mediados I don't think that's the case...it is more about that in the end she is still that fragile woman who was abused and used by her master, killing herself rather than accepting to die by the hands of Issac was her way to end her life on her own terms.
The tragedy of it is she succumbed to the very madness she killed her sire for. In that sense she was doomed from the start.

Carmilla is one of my favorite characters in the entire series alongside Isaac, this really did help me understand why I understood and loved her character. All her actions and motivation came from a genuine place that I've been in before. Gotta love your villainess descending into madness

I feel like her pain only fed her power hunger, but she overreached and that was why she failed in the end. I think she would have succeeded if she had scaled back or at least divided things up.
The problem goes deeper than that.. She was never going to be able to that because for her enough is never enough. What she needed was to let go of her trauma, let go of the past and find the ability to stop and appreciate the things she already has the people that already surround her and support her.

I’m glad you brought up the irony of her character, in that she has become the very thing she despised the most in the world.
Most people don't notice this but Camilla is pretty much an unstoppable character. Some stories have skills and abilities that make them highly adaptable, she can handle any problem and come out on top, often time the only real weakness to these characters are themselves.
I would have loved to see her last longer in the series and seeing her slowly unravel as she loses self control, her downfall was too fast pace for my preference but ideal for her character.
Carmilla was an iconic villain. Of all the tragic characters I would say I share most in common with her. Probably a reason I should seek therapy one day .
As someone who had gone through sexual assault, I can say that it is so. Much. Work to heal to the point where you can separate the person who hurt you from everyone else in their social group. Hard work. And Carmilla is an arrogant person who would never admit any fault with herself. Combined with her trauma, she was doomed to fail, but still managed to cause terrible damage. She is a very well written character, and it is unsettling that many people, despite understanding how evil she is, empathise with her.

Carmilla was such a spiteful and selfish character. Nothing was ever enough for her and she couldn't give anyone any credit, unless she was manipulating them in which case she didn't mean a word.
I liked Carmilla.
I like female villains who are unreasonably evil and brutal, while also keeping a fake facade of credibility and allure.

I can finally watch videos and I love your take on Castlevania characters! Carmilla and Isaac are my two favs, I really like the way they are written. This version of them is the best version so far in castlevania universe. I like Carmilla for being kind of opposite of Dracula and also for being a fun character and Isaac for having the best character development. I really like the philosopher king ending and his talks with the former philosopher in a night-creature's body was something fresh. Carmilla, on the other hand, has the opposite ending. But I think it was fitting. She ended herself because no one else could, at least she thought. She died choosing her death, still having control even in death. And fun fact: Carmilla's bloody tear at the end is an homage to original Carmilla in castlevania games. She had a half face mask that had a bloody tear running down her face. Also Bloody Tears is the famous soundtrack of the game and the epic orchestral version of Bloody Tears was used in the show as well during the main trio's castle fight scene on their way to killing Dracula.

For journal tho, I have a very messy writing routine. I can't get myself to journal on a regular basis, so it just turns into me not writing for a long time and then something happens or I just have the right mind for it and feel the need to write. I think it's better this way because whenever I feel obliged to write, I just can't. Then I feel guilty and then get mad at myself for feeling guilty of simply not following a stupid schedule I made for myself.
What should be in it is an irrelevant question, because there is no right or wrong way to do it. Some people write daily to keep track of things and themselves, some people write weekly, monthly etc. Some people are like me, they write whenever they like. Also you don't need to write either, you could even draw whatever you want if words get stuck in your mind. Or simply writing a big "f this day" is okay because that's how you feel and also who the hell can what you are doing on your journal?? Most people don't want to do it because they feel as if they are writing a novel that'll get published. Girl, it's your mind and yours only, get that shit on paper. Can't sit down to write? Write in on your phone in a notes app or sth. It doesn't matter what time you do it, what medium you use, how you write or whether you write or draw. I personally can't think straight when there's a lot on my mind or if sth is bothering me (which is pretty much all the time), so I just do it in stream of consciousness. Do I jump from topic to topic when I'm journaling because of this technique? Yes. Do I make errors and spelling mistakes? Hell yea. Does it look like I'm having a stroke on paper? Unfortunately. Do I care? Absolutely not. It's my thought process, so only me knowing what's going on and how I got there is fine. Again, this isn't a novel or autobiography, it can be whatever you want to be.
I sometimes happen to write what's bothering me, how I feel, how I wish I felt, some thoughts about world events, political discusssions with me myseld and I, reflecting on philosophical subjects, getting pretty existential (unfortunately), talking about why I like this or that piece of media and in which way it resonated with me or things I found familiar in the story or characters etc, my thoughts about people, thoughts about things people did, goals if I ever have one, plans, or talk about past events, feelings, or things the current events remind me of or evoke/trigger etc etc. I found that when I write down the past events or things that specifically bothered me for a long time for no reason, I happen to wrap them up better in my mind. Idk, especially things that were unfinished or felt that way seem to take up space in my mind and I can't do anything about them. When I write them down tho, it's like an abstract concept taking a physical form in front of me. Maybe the act of writing, typing or drawing physically helps with that. And when I write those down and how I feel about them, after putting the last dot, it feels like finally putting an end to those things. It's like having a talk that never happened. It no longer bothers me or takes up space after that in my mind. It's almost like the mind is a well and everything and everyone that is left unfinished and unconcluded is a body thrown down into that well. They keep decaying down there, polluting the water, disrupting the water. The longer they stay, the longer the bodies decay. A foul smell fills the air; the water poisons my crops and those who eat them and drink from that well. I become bitter and foul myself, both to myself and to those who taste my words. In muddy waters, it's impossible to see your reflection and thus what you've become. I found that writing such things down is like taking those years old decaying bodies out of that well and giving them a proper burial, a proper finish. Everything has its place. The past is the past. I know that, I know you know that, but we still can't tell that to ourselves. This feels like a proper end though. With the last word written and last dot put down, those I've written down no longer bother me. The waters calm down, serene and purified. Clear as a mirror and lightweight. I finally take a deep breath. I like giving my mental ghosts and their corpses proper burials.
Or at least that's how I see it.🫠

Well they do have a moment where you can see how they think and their relationship just after the day armor bit
The interesting thing is it also reflects how she deals with her fellow co-rulers: While she is much less directly cruel then she is to Hector, she pretty much unloads all the responsibility of running her grand idea onto her fellow members and all the burdens associated with it. She knows that the warrior will never stop fighting, the logistics would be impossible and diplomatically she isn't interested in offering any concessions, so Lahore is basically only responsible for managing Hector and isn't able to use her talents to make her fellows easier, a job made harder by the fact Carmilla made no pretences to work with Hector. All the while Carmillia sits in her castle and enjoys her power, benefiting from the glory without sharing in the burden of work or brutal hardship.
This results in her being abandoned by two of her council members long before Issac attacks her and Lahore ends up going really easy on Hector, largely because he's the only one she can have equal talking to; which is complicated by the fact that she had manipulated and bound him to Carmilla's will.
It isn't as naked as her disband for men, who she fairly openly flaunt's her true feelings toward (Dracula is aware of her plans the moment she entered the game, but is completely unmotivated to do anything about her) but it's interesting that she treats everyone like a thing to be owned; even her Junior Co-rulers who she just expects to carry out her whims without complaint or compromise. Sure, her ultimate downfall comes from a complete wildcard in the form of Issac, but her shaky foundations and inability to cater to her fellows needs lead to the forgemaster having a really clear shot at taking her neck.
Hence it's somewhat poetic that Issac dishonoured her in the most direct way possible, she wanted control, but she couldn't even speak her last speech without being interrupted, a disserve she hadn't had to deal with up to that point. Which I think makes her a fantastic character to watch and be evil; namely because she is consistent.

Carmilla seems to think she understands the first rule to vampire politics quite well: 'when you aim for the king, don't miss'. The problem seemingly stems from the fact that she thinks she understands Dracula, and can overpower him, but doesn't quite grasp the gulf of difference between his power and hers, and how much he actually holds back on the daily.
Love the hair, too.
She was smart enough to understand he wasn't eating since his wife died. Though you do bring up the idiot ball pretty well. Dracula was starving and he was still the strongest being in the room.

Carmella is lashing out. She's trying to make up for all the things she's lost. She allowed her hurt, pain and dark desires and hatred turn her bitter beyond repair. And that bitterness is worse than being a vampire in and of itself. My ex was exactly like that.

Georgia, you do realize that while your hair is different...you could show up at a friend's place and ring their doorbell and run! Even if they had a door camera...they'd never guess it was you! Unless you wore the fangs. THAT might narrow it down. I've been fighting people like Carmilla all of my life. And you're right about the people who hang back...waiting while all of the heavy hits are taken. Then flounce in after the hard part is over. My Mom says my handwriting is EXACTLY like my Dad's. = ) She could never read my Dad's handwriting. I stopped handwriting in journals long ago because people would need divine intervention to decipher it .
Carmilla is a classic example of someone beyond saving... her cup will never be filled. Instead her cup is a black hole that will always suck everyone around her into it. In fact, it becomes worse over time. Its quite clear that near the end she's quite willing to sacrifice those closest to her in an attempt to feed her pain.

I do believe that her power hungry ways have lead to her demise. Hector had assisted Varney to bring back Dracula, and set up some stuff in the castle which helped Isaac and his hordes. Also, Hector can only live for a few decades. Lenore had seen how far gone Carmilla was. Striga & Morana knew the flaws of Carmilla's plan, and plus Striga wasn't a big fan of fighting farmers. We saw how Dracula was losing power, and the same thing was happening with Carmilla. Dracula had what it took to take over the world. Carmilla, her sisters, and forces would be in constant battles with humans. At some point they would have died one by one

She's not really coming from a place of "I am special", so much as "I have learned that no one will do what needs to be done, so I have to do everything myself, and I'm constantly angry and disappointed about that". From that place, it also makes sense that she'd choose to rule as a quartet, rather than as a singular narcissistic queen. Part of her knows that if she lets that feeling of being alone in the world take over, she's gonna lose her mind (as she eventually does).

Not the biggest fan of Carmella, but her truly brazen moments made her memorable. When she talks about Dracula's wife in front of him, in a manner of speaking, she had some balls to even attempt that.
That journaling you mentioned sounds fun, and to answer the question about that: most of the journals that i love to use are the ones with a nice hard cover, while the pages and cover all have a certain theme in it. I still need to find another one with a subtle image of poison ivy along the edges while the edges also have a similar theme if that example helped with what i meant.
I partially agree that her power hungry nature led to her own downfall. Reason for that is thanks to what her sisters said about her plans. Carmilla makes the plans, then gets her sisters interested enough and from there the other 3 will figure out how to make it work. I think lenora even described it as carmilla being the dream when she described all 4 of them. Lenora as the diplomat, striga was the warrior, morana organized everything and carmilla was the one who dreamed up the plans and then have the others be invested in achieving those dreams as well. However, when 2 of the sisters were out for a while and the third one didn't feel like she belonged anymore, there was nobody anymore to ensure that carmilla didn't fly off the rails like she did in the end. I suspect that if the 4 of them would have stuck together and balanced each other out like they had always done then carmilla might actually have survived that at the end.

I always thought it was interesting that Carmila had her mind made up about Dracula far before she arrives. she words it like she decided in the moment, but her complex planning of it is clearly older than that moment.
I also feel like Carmilla also wanted to feel safe and secure, as she’s never really had that. Now she may not realize it but I do feel it influences her choices.
Many people call her a Karen but I always thought no, that's not what a Karen is and that is also not what Carmilla is.
Carmella is hurt, in pain and lashing out. She is someone who has never healed from her past trauma and has adapted a very bad coping mechanism of just killing and hurting men. Blaming all men of all their wrongs done to her. Honestly it seems like a theme in Castlevania that every person who was hurt by others immediately equate that everyone in the world has it out for them and it really took Isaac meeting various people and talking to them to actually see not all humans are all the same. And not everyone is out to get them.
I wish Carmilla had a therapist.

Isaac and Carmilla are my absolute favorite characters! The pride and power they both displayed to continuously propel forward was remarkable! Isaac was learned and willing to converse with others in order to attempt to gain perspective, in hopes of harnessing the fire burning within him. Carmilla, was unyielding and stubborn. Sadly, this made any sort of growth unobtainable and she chose death over surrendering to a foe she viewed as “lesser “. Thanks so much for giving us her analysis!
It's also worth noting that almost every tactical point she made in the show was actually accurate. Dracula WAS mad. Alucard and the Belmont hold WAS a threat. Her idea on how to secure more land WAS feasible. Hector WAS an asset worth securing. The thing that undid her in the end was a threat she couldn’t possibly have known about, coming from a place she couldn’t see.
I appreciate that it wasn’t just a character flaw that undid her for a moral lesson. Her spite and pain were themes, but not really her undoing. She justgot outmaneuvered in a way she didnt have the tools to counter.

Touching on Carmilla's emotional drive hindering her strategic senses brilliantly demonstrates her flaws. For instance, she gleefully abuses Hector once he betrayed Dracula. But then, come seasons 3 and 4, she realized she actually did have more uses for a forgemaster. This fostered resentment in Hector and led to Hector helping Isaac in Styria. Her emotional outbursts in one moment helped create her downfall later.
When Carmilla revealed her deception to Hector, he should have gone to Dracula straight away. He never meant to betray him and I am sure Dracula would have understood. And well, Carmilla would have been stomped by Dracula.
She just became grating after a while. The "old men" schtick over and over again just had me eye rolling by the end.
Shockingly, I enjoyed it as every time she brought it up, it made me realize she was just an old biddy who was just as abusive and as insane as the "old men" she ranted about. She was absolutely oblivious to her own hypocrisy.
That’s why I like her that much as a villain. The more aggressive she becomes, the more hypocritical she gets as well. And she pretty much doomed herself with the other side of the same coin

Ah Carmilla, such a cathartic evil Queen. I loved her as soon as she came in a read Dracula for filth (ie long plan of committing suicide and taking everyone else down with him)
It's strange tgat Dracula gets angry enough to threaten Godbrand for whining about pig blood in private, but does absolutely nothing when Carmilla mocks him in front of his entire war room.
I do wish you would have gone into the relationship she had with her ruling sisters, as she really seems to let her guard down in all but 1 case, and she really seems happy around them and really takes in their take on things and respects their opinion

I feel like she destroys herself in a way similar to Bram Stoker's original Dracula - starting out from a position of secure power and through a series of miscalculations, make enemies of people who can destroy them. Lol she'd haaaate that. Only difference is for Stoker's Dracula it's gluttony for blood, for her it's her unsatisfiable pain. Elemental needs.

When you are hurt, you want power, because you believe that you’ll never be hurt again if you’re powerful. All you do is force yourself up a tower that makes you harder to reach, and makes your fall more extreme and painful. But if you accept your safety net, the people around you, avoid pushing away those who can criticize you and hold you accountable, if you allow yourself to be vulnerable and hurt, your fall will be something you can recover from.
I don't think Carmila necessarily places all older men in the same box as the one who turned her, I think she, but I think she generally thinks of men as either tools, fools, tyrants or a combination of those.
I think she viewed Dracula as a tyrant that became a fool tyrant.
The fight between Carmilla and Isaac is easily the best in the whole series!

I think Carmilla is the character that embodies the female revenge fantasy to hurt men because they hurt her and I emphasize and admire certain qualities on her. A shame that she needed to be cruel

Its why she underestimated Dracula. Its why she didn't see Hector's betrayal coming and it's why she was ludicrously outclassed by Issac.

I like the detail of her repeated use of MAN when describing those she hates. Not "person" or "vampire" or "lord". MAN. I think it's more than just sexism. It's something that she uses to distance herself from her enemies. It's a lie that she tells herself to think that she could never be like her old master or Dracula. But that denial was her undoing and she became the very thing she hated, regardless of gender.
The takeaway? Be honest to yourselves. The lies you tell yourself are the most harmful and the easiest to belive since they come from your own thoughts. Find your inner truth and you will truly be free.

I don’t know… opposing Dracula feels pretty stupid within the context of that universe. He almost certainly, from what we know, could have dealt with her and everyone else under her command by himself without much problem, and there would’ve virtually been no consequences for him. He didn’t do it because of his own lack of motivation, but she pressed the one button that I’m sure brought him close. She was an inch from death and being powerless again, but she didn’t even seem to realize it. She comports herself with the delusion of intelligence… but honestly, I feel she’s become exactly what she hates.
I think you should write in a journal, I find writing therapeutic in my opinion
