- Cold starting our 40 EC Drott excavator (20 ton). Powered by a 4-53 detroit diesel. This unit was my dad's. He used it to dig a pond on the property, and that was about it. I pulled it out of retirement a few years ago to dig out a huge stump from beside the shop. Its done a LOT of sitting for the 20 years we've owned it. I've personally only run it maybe 6-8 hours. So little in fact that I'd forgotten where the kill lever was! Its fun to operate though.
That tag might say Drott 40, That machine looks like a 1969 30YC with that house and stick, especially with Detroit 453 and the troubled crane grousers on it. Drott 40 will have a case or a Detroit 471 in it. large counterweight on the 40. was at the Wausau plant saw these made and i owned. Best machines of their time until Case bought out Drott.
I got the same in quebec drott 40ec 1971 that was my first grand father excavator and we still got it
Nice old machine, the little Detroit sounds great.
Love to see these old machines being brought back to life! Especially when children are involved in the process! Great job and great dad! I try to involve my children in all my projects too.
Thank you! He's a pretty good helper if I can manage to hold his attention long enough.
Beautiful pup! My favorite kind.
Started working at Drott in 1968 right out of high school in Wausau Wis.. It was a great company and to work for Mr. Ed Drott. He was the one of the first one to build the hyd. operated excavator. They were a great machine to own and very dependable at that time.
Wow very interesting! I heard that these machines were very advanced for the time. Hydraulic undercarriages were very new when many machines were still using fully mechanical track drives. It actually had the same type of tracks as the older draglines, just hydraulic rather than chain driven with clutches.
Good
Detroit diesel if they ain't got oil under it that ain't got oil in it
Fill it with koolant and subscribe ,so till it turn blue , nice 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks BigAl California.
Nice to see the kids helping out! Raising a future generation to keep this old iron running.
Thanks! He's a good helper (when he wants to be).
The track should remove and replace the new one track
Sounds like a bus engine.
Cute little guy
Thanks! He's a joy to us
@@HeavyIronAcres A slight hambone! They all are! GBWYall
@@HeavyIronAcres Watching his shadow chasing your shadow was a reminder of my two sons about 30 yrs ago. Keep up the good work, he is still chasing your shadow.
@@Northtide prophetic words! Yes he does, like me with his grandpa before him.
I have an old case 980. Looking for two parts
looking for parts to Drott/ Case contact Dick Heisler715-573-4155.
What kind of engine does it have in there? (hmmmm, scratching head, wondering...)
I believe its a detroit 453
wide open
Ragged ass screaming Detroit...
Are you sure that’s not a BEC40 You said EC.
Says ec40 on the plate
Definitely a sparse looking undercarriage. Looks like it’s got street shoes on. I guess it was live and learn. If you can’t stay on your feet you can’t stay in the fight.
The excavator goes more steady than the camera _)
Questions please ? with the prices of heavy equipment and parts for them these days why would you leave your machines out for a number of years not run them or maintain them ? forgive me but i do not understand the reasoning for this ?
Maintain what? There just isn't much to maintain on a machine of this vintage unless it breaks....
Stop moving the camera boy 👦, it snaking me sea sick come on thanks BigAl California.
Arm and hydraulic bucket and even cab and engine
Bye litle Guy 😇
Beauty Machine painting her.
Is that a 453-471 detroit I can't tell
It's a 453
Awesome old machine :) It just needs a coat of paint! ;) There's one in my area that I would like to get ahold of, but I don't think the owner wants to sell it anymore.
