Have you tried larger peppers like bell peppers? This is my first year (that I can remember) putting bells in like 5 gal containers so I'm curious to see how they do.
@BBettaGarden no I put mine in 1 gallon pots. I don't get many and they turn out small, but that's how I like mine. I've got a small deck garden not a lot of space.
I really appreciate your videos. I wish there were more channels from Chicago gardeners so I could get a better idea of what other people's gardens are looking like under similar conditions. I'm in the southwest suburbs, Aurora. Thanks again and keep em coming 😁
Your garden looks wonderful . The greenery is relaxing and motivating representing life . The veggies that you do have is also great to see keep up the great rotini. 😊
@@BBettaGarden yes even in zone 9 I’m going to definitely try 🙏🏽. I started beets, onions, kale, turnip, tomatoes, sage , mint , thyme, basil, and a few more veggies in containers . Do you have any other suggestions?
@@valariekimble2998that's great to hear! How do you feel about mustards, arugula, bok Choy, spinach? All are pretty fast producers. It might still be too hot for them in your area though. Maybe more like October for planting..(I'm trying to wrap my garden brain around your climate 😊💚).
Thank you. You really amaze me. I have tried to plant more but my health won't let me. I did get about 12 tomato plants put in barrels on my patio. They are not producing just yet. Lots of green to turn yet.
Heya Kat! Sorry to hear about your health. But glad to hear you were able get tomatoes 🍅 planted. I'm wishing a bounty of ripe tomatoes in the very near future💚. I haven't documented it well but I feel good about saying, my non cherry tomatoes start to ripen in August so I think I'm about on time.
You have hornworm predators eating them. The wasps laid eggs on that worm you showed us. Can I say I’m jealous of your garden.❤ Missouri is under that heat dome. We’ve had heat advisory warnings all summer. Your spring cabbages are twice the size of mine. Thank you for sharing your garden with us!☺️
So happy to be able to share my garden 💚. I had one that had another that I didn't find until the eggs were very visible so I let it be because I knew what was to come. This is the second day of meat 100 degree temps here in Chicago and I am beside myself. Relief comes tomorrow. I say that to say, my garden heart goes out to anyone trying to grow in these conditions most of the season💚.
@@judifarrington9461 thanks so much. I saw on the news that we hit an all time record for heat index yesterday at 120. We're on the other side of it now and I didn't have any loss so I'm thankful. Pairing that you'll get a reprieve from this heat💚.
You're welcome Judi. It's been pretty cool here this week but are temps are going to start climbing again this weekend. Looks like we'll top out in the low 90's which is much better than the meat 100 degree temps.
Heya Arthur! Have you pulled your cucumbers yet? I have two other plants on the larger trellis that I sowed last month so maybe they will be my unofficial bumper crop.
Your garden looks great, I'm struggling down here in Florida 8b trying to grow tomato's and peppers, Hoping for better luck in fall when it cools down.
Thanks Jenn! Florida time to shine is definitely coming up with Fall quickly approaching. I admire gardeners who grow in super hot weather 💚. It's a state emergency here in Illinois if we reach 95 degrees a few days in a row, lbs.
Having a tough year with my tomatoes, so far only 2 tomatoes out of 5 plants. Have a lot of yellow flowers, so hopefully I’ll get more tomatoes. Like you my peppers are growing great. 6 watermelons have formed so maybe I be able to harvest watermelons.
I used an all purpose fertilizer and compost when planting. And I just top dressed the corn plants in the front yard with more compost and granular fertilizer this week.
Looks fan-tab-ulous! Just gorgeous. This year I could only dream about my garden looking so good and producing so well. (Not a total failure or a complete wipe-out, but we've had better years, kwim?) Do I know where you got the nifty gardening/farming sleeves? They're looking awfully familiar, and while I didn't order any, myself, I received ads for them. Are you pleased with them? Are they a worthwhile investment, in your opinion? Much better to read or hear an endorsement from someone whose opinion I respect than just the pitch from the manufacturer or the company who sent the ad to my email inbox! Those cherry tomatoes---I am nearly envious, and I *am* salivating! Thanks for this video, it's been a true pleasure, and again: I needed the push. 😃💚
Heya friend! I still don't know what to make of this year. Squash, cucumbers, okra, they aren't even earning their keep in the garden, lol. I'm hoping the okra picks up (it's one of my favs) and it would be nice if the muncher cukes I planted late (second bed in the front yard) really take off.. quiet as kept, I threw them to not grow summer squash every year so I'm kinda indifferent about its production or lack there of.
And the sleeves are from Farmers Defense (farmersdefense.com) Thanks for asking my opinion. I like them, and because I know we both appreciate details, I'll dig in 😊. I had seen them online and thought, it sounds like a good concept but I didn't think it was something I needed. Then I received a pair from the company late last year to try. I didn't start using them until this year and it was originally kinda of an afterthought. But last weekend I started looking for another pair to purchase (just for a different look) because I was in the garden and I didn't think I was working with any plants that were especially scratchy but I was being scratched by something and my arms were a bit itchy. I said to myself, let me go in the house and get my sleeves. (I rinsed my arms off just in case I had come in contact with something more concerning, dried off and sleeved up. Here are my short notes 😊: *They are probably the one garden accessory that I didn't think I necessarily needed but I am really glad I have them. *I think the variety of colors and designs are fun which is nice when I think of the clothes I often were in the garden 😊. *They have also held up to a couple washes which is really important for me. *Re: sizing, I have a S/M and it fits perfect up just past my elbow. When I first put them on they feel tight around my bicep/tricep but after bumping around in the garden, I don't notice and they are comfortable. And I think if I went a size up, they would probably be too big/baggy and may even get snagged on things so when I order another pair, I'll get the same size.
@@BBettaGarden "I threw [sic] them to not grow summer squash every year so I'm kinda indifferent about its production or lack there of." They sense this sort of thing from us, you know. Died. Didn't just perform poorly or slowly or weakly: they very spitefully Up. And. Died. Here, we haven't had the consistent heat okra seems to want, the summer/winter squashes are iffy and the cucumbers are acting as if they'd rather be someplace else, perhaps Maine, where they fancy it will be warmer.
@@BBettaGarden Farmers Defense, yes! Same folks! Well, actually Farmers Defense came to my attention through the Old Farmers Almanac Store or the Old Farmers Store (still, the Almanac) and I thought they looked very pretty and very practical and that they were a majorly good idea, but I don't do well wearing synthetic fabrics. I had been thinking that I might be able to work out a similar idea for protecting my forearms and my lower upper arms by sewing up something in a jeans-like fabric. It wouldn't stretch like those sleeves do, so a given amount of ease would have to be built in, but when I was still a very young young-woman, you could still see ladies wearing clerk's sleeve protectors which were essentially washable, starched "cuffs" with a gathered hem just above or just below the elbow, and another at the wrist and the intention was to keep a clerk's clean white cuffs and sleeves clean, and wash the graphite from the pencils used for the job when they were getting grungy. (And then came the more or less clear plastic ones---looked dreadful in less than a week, and in general just--- No. No, no, no.) And in the garden, except for sowing seed, I wear gloves, so I'd be covered, I'm reckoning, from elbow to fingertip. And I try to wear only long-sleeved tops when I'm in the garden, anyway.
