  • My first play around with the Roli Seaboard Rise. I used Kontakt to create a guitar sound and then had some fun playing over a backing track of Jimi Hendrix's Hey Joe
I've added a video with my thoughts on the Seaboard here: • Roli Seaboard Rise - i...

Thanks for sharing, necroing an old post I realise, but, after jonesing over these when they first appeared, I am now the proud owner of one. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in Australia for me in about 3 months :). MPE is just such a big leap forward.

I don't see how anyone could give this VERY informative, thorough and educational video a thumbs-down! To make up for that, I give it at least TEN thumbs-up! Thanks for taking all that effort to educate us...

Thanks Red Agent. It's such a fantastic controller and now I realise quite how much more there is to it.

Red Agent Dont worry, dislikes are a good thing in this case
its most prob jealous guitarists at fear being replaced, as they always come up late in the studio,
with a hangover & only know 1 thing: Volume :) .... Great expressive instrument

Ice Locus, I know that it’s possible to make Kontakt work with MPE through either adjusting the settings or running multiple instances of the plug-in sample library, but can you do the same things there with decent sampler? Is there a way to make decent sampler work with MPE like how you could do so with Kontakt?

Advice on bending and vibrato: lock it with the tempo.

Thank you :-) I doubt I'll ever be looking at attempting to replace the real thing but anything to help make my demos more real are good.

Ok, great to watch and interesting. However, isn't there anything that comes close to this stuff out-of-the-box when one buys the keyboard with the software coming with it?
Do I really have to by KONTAKT or similar?

Cheers Wook Lee. I've only had the Seaboard Rise for a couple of days and I'm still learning. Guitar Rig is my "go to" effect for most of my sounds. The guitar solo sound in Equator (it comes with the Seaboard) sounds brilliant too and even better once you put it through Guitar Rig.

A great sound, but does the instrument need tuning? not trying to knock you but it sounded a touch flat to me.

hey thanks for this, its awesome! I've just bought a roli and am trying to get it to work with the Kontakt guitar plugin like you show in your video, but for some reason my 'settings' options look totally different to yours!! for a start the settings button is a picture of two cogs while yours is a spanner, then the page that opens up is very basic and doesn't have the same options as yours and so I can't get any further. any ideas? (as far as I know the software is up to date) very frustrating

Cubase Artist and Pro versions have an effective Note Expression tab that works very well with MPE capable synth VSTs like Halion 6, Synthmaster 2.9 in addition to Equator and Strobe2 VSTs that come with the Roli Seaboard. The nice thing about Cubase is that you do not need to create multiple instances of Halion 6 to play MPE poliphonically. And Halion 6 has guitar sounds that I like better than the Kontakt library and saxophone patches that I prefer to SWAM engine.

It has to be the best piece of hardware that I've bought in a long, long time. An absolutely brilliant controller. Very natural to play after an initial short time learning how to adapt your technique. I've discovered other plugins that work really well with the Rise so I'll do another video soon. Thanks :-)

It shouldn't any different on a Windows system. Both Kontakt and Roli software works on both platforms and I only used Logic for playback - it would be the same on Cubase or any other DAW.

I agree, you can't beat the real thing. For people who can't play the guitar though this is a great way to get life into your demo tracks. I can't play anything other than a few basic chords on guitar but I haven't the time to master it yet I have the job of composing music for my band.

And spend 2-3 years learning to play it -- whereas if you already know keyboards this is much faster...
