      @@GarageMatters_vroom My last payment was 2006. My dad bought a 1995 Nissan hardbody because of a recommendation from a family member and an ambulance ran the truck over, unfortunately the insurance company totalled it out but it still ran great even after the accident with 200 thousand miles. He taught me how to drive a 5 spd manual in that truck. I miss that truck but him much more. He passed away in April of 2023. He is with king Jesus now, no more suffering.

    I got my 2011 Frontier in 2012. May 2024, still runs like it did when I bought it. It’s got 120K miles and it’s fun to drive. It’s also paid for and that makes it a real winner! 😊 No mechanical issues. I’ve replaced the a/c blower motor, a/c switch, the passenger side window regulator, put in LED headlights and fog lights, and the paint looks mostly good except on the front fenders where it chipped a bit.

      You can go back as far as 2010, just make sure the transmission shifts well and that the radiator was replaced to prevent SMOD (Strawberry Milkshake of Death) where coolant contaminates the trasmission fluid. Mine was an ear!y 2010 but the orjginal owner replaced the radiator before the issue damaged anything. Later 2010s already had the new style radiator.

    I have a 2010 SE 4x4 that just hit 134k miles after a 2000 mile road trip. I love the truck and it's running really well. The only real issues I've had is that the parking brake won't hold the truck on a grade despite replacing and adjusting the shoes, and there is a problem with the brake booster that makes the pedal feel like the brakes need to be bled. I'm the second owner and the original owner took good care of it mechanically but not cosmetically so I had to do a deep clean and some light body repairs after I bought if. These trucks are solid and I could see myself keeping it for another 10 years, especially since I have several newer SUVs to spread out my annual miles.

      4x4, nice! Thats my only grip and should have went 4x4 from the start but it's ok, I don't put myself in those tough spots. Sounds like the brake booster is going bad, I've had several other vehicles act the same way. I'm the same way, multiple vehicles to spread the annual miles. 🍻

    2014 King Cab 4x4 V-6 SV owner w/ 93k (the truck. My mileage is much higher) Bought used 3 years ago, no Bro-Dozer mods. Just ratchet straps, bungee cords, a tape measure, seat covers (seats were worn but not ripped. I intend to keep it that way), Smart Liner floor mats (since WeatherTech got greedy), DC Inflator, 4 way lug wrench, work gloves.
    Routine: Serpentine belt, battery, filters and fluids. New Skins are on the docket. Yoko's are worn. I'm thinking Michelin (never had a vehicle they didn't improve)
    Unscheduled: Crank sender/sensor (1st cylinder bank went, 2nd one 8 months later), crossover pipe repair (welded. Holy Crap a new one is outrageous) driver's side power window switch (Amazon, 3 minute replacement) and presently I need to get the HVAC fan solenoid replaced (heat/AC has one speed, medium- runs constantly).Rear window slider latch (JB Weld to the rescue).
    Problems: The drivers window freezes up in the winter if I don't leave it just slightly cracked, Shifter once froze up stuck in drive after driving through a surprise slushy snowstorm. Managed to get it into neutral to turn the engine off then waited 8 hours for it to thaw, fixed itself. Moral of the story: if it's that bad out, stay home.
    Loves: Sightlines are nice and low and windshield is high enough to see the traffic lights, even when almost overhead. Interior plastics look Lil' Tykes grade but are damn near indestructible. Can operate everything with gloves one. The utilitrack rail system (including the ones on the bottom of the bed) are the best cargo securing system of any truck ever. I can park with the Cool Kids at the Home Depot/Lowe's Contractor's lot. If I put the front wheels on a couple pieces of 2X8 I can do the oil change with no jacks or ramps. The 'Holy S***' acceleration on onramps from about 50-70 mph. 87 octane fill ups. Driving position is perfect, unlike the 'Celica with a lift kit' Tacoma setup.
    Tolerates (personality quirks of the truck's. Mine are too many to list): Turning radius of a small Naval vessel. Rides like a truck. Oils gauge is actually an idiot gauge, it's just a warning light with a needle. 140 mph speedometer is ludicrous. The f***ing oil filter is mounted sideways and near impossible to finagle out from behind the skid plate without hot oil running down your arm or onto the driveway.
    To sum it , I originally was hunting for a used Taco, discovered the Toyota Tax, settled on the Fronty and glad I settled. I'm old enough that this will probably be my last truck but I intend to hang on to this lovable mutt for as long as I can. It's done everything I've ever needed it to do and occasionally more than expected.

    I also have a 2010, 112k miles, white, with same basic specs. I have had no major issues but I am a maintenance freak so I keep all in good condition. I would have to challenge the towing 5000lbs though. Nissan/ Datsun have never been known for stability under tow. But I have a 2020 F350 and a 2023 Tacoma for that. In short, The Frontier is a decent run around town truck that seems to have ok quality. But even in Japan, it is considered the low end vehicle (Like Mazda). Toyota and Subaru would be the top two.

    • @GarageMatters_vroom
      @GarageMatters_vroom  4 месяца назад +2

      Agreed with towing stability over a certain weight and configuration. I've used it for boat and trailer towing roughly around 3500-4000lbs and does just fine but that one off instance with a UHaul car hauler and Camry was really pushing the limits and something I'll never do again (white knuckles and highly not recommended from experience). I've never owned anything bigger then this Frontier but would imagine a better towing experience due to the longer wheelbase and weight, thanks for stopping by.

      I actually think the frontiers are built better than the Toyota. No . Seriously. I've had both. Have a Tacoma now. And have had frontiers. I think the frontiers are made better. Least here in America. I don't know about Japan. My frontiers were made in Tennessee I think? The tacoma came from texas now all Mexico. But in the frontier even looking at the bed welds, hard body on YEARS ago all the way through the current and looking at the frames they have been made better. Toyota just recently decided to try a boxed frame again. I actually think what drove Toyota to be the leader wasnt the quality of the truck. I think Nissan made a better truck. I think what drove Toyota to be the leader was much more marketing and more advertising.
      There's also a double standard. Toyota has drive by wire recalls, engine recalls, entire frame recalls and people still say how great they are engineered 😂😂. Nissan has transmission issues which they correct and never hear the end of it. Forever tarnished.
      Also people buying frontiers at more apt to use them for work. People buying Toyota not so much. Toyota used to be good. But I question if the Tacoma, or Hilux, was really ever better than the Nissan/Datsun to begin with. And I've had both. I've had A Mazda truck as well.
      It's been the marketing I think. That put Toyota ahead

    • @itsallminor6133
      @itsallminor6133 4 месяца назад +3

      The Tacoma is not made as well. I have one. I can assure you. I climbed around under it inspecting it. And . Nope. Not a chance. I'm not saying the tacoma is junk. Tacoma will probably run quite a while. I'm saying comparing the box, the frames, welds, rivets in Tacoma. Nope. In fact the third gen Tacoma and the 4th you can basically rip the cheap plastic off with one hand. It's made REALLY cheap. And the composite bed warps and twists. They actually make aftermarket braces just to strengthen the Tacoma bed. Oh and the 4wd is okay but nothing to write home about. Mostly it's just really crappy constructed. Even the paint is REALLY thin. This doesnt mean it won't run a long time. It's just built like sh*t.

      @@itsallminor6133 I bought this Frontier for work as in moving stuff around the house, towing my boat, and daily driving around town. I'm not trying to start a war but here are the reasons why I went with the Frontier. In 2011, there was really only two mid size pickups:
      2010 Tacoma: I'm not a fan of drum brakes, personal preference. Had less horsepower, torque, weight and this was taken into consideration for the purpose of towing my boat. It had a tie down system but it wasn't versatile enough for me and carried a higher price tag, I just felt I wasn't getting my money's worth
      2010 Frontier: Had the disc brakes, personal preference. Had more horsepower, torque, and weighs more and was taken into consideration for the purpose of towing my boat and it felt it was more capable in that regard. The utility-track system is a much better tie down system and with a lower price tag I felt I was getting more for my money.
      It's 2024 now, and I've owned it for 13 years and nothing has fallen apart so I'd say its built well.

    • @itsallminor6133
      @itsallminor6133 4 месяца назад

      Towing a boat I used my full sized Chevy. The drum brakes on the Tacoma don't bother me. Less stopping distance but I also won't have to change them until probably 80k miles. .
      This is my second Toyota. I've had 3 Nissans. Beginning with the first Nissan hardbody. I just think the Nissans are made better. Toyota is big on cost cutting. The Tacoma has a better 4wd system (least on mine I have the off-road packages). But even the 4wd system could use a front locker. Brake actuated crawl control and mts isn't ideal. But archaic. But it works. Rather have a front locker. The rest of the truck is just made really cheap. .
      I don't think the 24 Tacoma is any better it actually seems worse.
      Nissan isn't perfect either. Rust belt areas you basically need to undercoat it as soon as it comes off the car carrier and keep undercoating it at least once a year. Toyotas too really. But since the big frame recalls Toyota has improved somewhat.
      The 24 Tacoma is an improvement In power and torque. But also goes down to the turbo 4 which longevity is a question as well as increased maintenance.
      The back seats in the frontier are a little worse. Near straight up. Neither is great but the Tacoma is slightly better when it comes to the back seat. Horsepower and torque the Nissan wins until we go to the 24 Tacoma which again turbo 4 more maintaining and longevity questions.
      In any of the builds I just find the frontier made better. Better constructed. Less cost cutting. And as you said you get more value for your money. Other Nissan products haven't been so great but the frontier line is where they really started and still continues to hold some of that tradition. I stilll sorta like my Tacoma? But I can't say it's made better than the frontier. I can say I think the 4wd system is slightly better. But the Tacoma really needs a front locker if it's going to keep marketing itself as a off-road truck. Or it needs to be built better and more utilitarian if it wants to market itself as a practical truck. Seems Toyota is having a identity crisis. The 24 Tacoma frame is boxed but I have doubts it's made of the same level high strength steel. Toyota just became really big. And really big at raising prices while cost cutting. Long as you undercoat the frontier it should last quite a while.
      It's really not even a debate. All you have to do is look under the trucks and you can see which one is better constructed. Both companies should really be doing a better job. These aren't 19k pickups anymore they are selling them for 40k - 60k. And especially with Toyota you are getting less for that money. As I said before I really think it's the marketing and BRANDING that has made the Tacoma more popular. Not the actual build quality. Build quality it's pretty much always been slightly less than the frontier. For slightly more money.
      Mazda trucks were actually pretty good as well. But like Nissan they failed in the advertising and marketing. Same with Mitsubishi.
      The 4runner though, before the newest model was made much better than the Tacoma. The 4runner was solid.

    Maybe I got a lemon. My 2011 frontier with 178k miles has given me nothing but issues. Pretty big issues. Broken leaf springs, engine misfires, valves ticking, e-brake cable snapped, sensors, bearings, tie rods, and so much more. All of these issues have been within the last 35,000 miles ever since I bought it. Not sure if it had issues before that. I take meticulous care of the truck and stay on top of the maintenance. For towing my ute is rated at 3 ton. It has handled 2.5 ton comfortably at 90 km/h (90km speeed limit on trailers)
    2 Qestions 1)Do you or anyone know what causes the tiptronic to fail (auto only) in low range, but work textbook perfect in high range? Dealer has isolated the problem to inside the gearbox.
    2) At random intervals(several weeks) I get a "low oil" warning on the dash. oil preassure and oil level sensor have been replaced and no change. Warning lasts for about 25 - 35 seconds and only happens at first startup for the day.

      I stay away from vehicles over 5 years old, thats usually the term for most loans. Years and mileage wears down parts coupled with the chance of horrible previous owners is just not worth the headache for me. For that reason I say any Nissan 4x4 Frontier or Titan from 2019 on up or just start brand new and maintain it properly, but would consider 2014 on up depending on the mileage. I'm not too familiar with their SUV lineup but always liked their 2005-2012 Pathfinder, same V6 as the Frontier. I test drove a new 2017 Pathfinder and didn't like it, felt like a car minivan and didn't have that truck feel.

      No issues here vibrating while idling. Any other owners out there experience a similar issue?

    My frontier recently has gotten that srs light as well. How can you fix this?

    • @GarageMatters_vroom
      @GarageMatters_vroom  3 месяца назад +1

      Pull the codes from the car with a scan tool and go from there. It could be anything in the SRS system causing the issue so I don't mess with it because it can take all day messing with it to figure out. I'll do the following but then call it a day:
      1. Check for looseness of the electrical wiring under the seats
      2. Check the airbag module under the center console for looseness.
      Sometimes you'll get lucky and it's just a loose connector and it fixes the issue. @ceescorner on here mention check the spiral cable behind the steering wheel and impact sensors.

    It's good for another 150k. Just watch the carbon deposits i think that's direct injection. Dont forget to change the tranny fluid. 😀

    Have you changed the vent on the rear axle? I have the same truck and love it, but blew a rear axle due to not changing this part out.

      If we're thinking about the EVAP canister above the rear driver side axle then no. I could be mistaken but I don't understand how the EVAP canister can be the culprit to a rear axle blowing...?

      @@GarageMatters_vroom No its the "BREATHER REAR AXLE CASE" Part No.: 38322-41L0A It lets the rear axle vent when it gets hot. I live in an area with heavy road salt, so I now change mine every 1 to 2 years. Cheap part, expensive if it fails.

      @@mattbartholomew5523 No, i have not changed out that breather for the rear axle. I didn't even know that part existed, I looked up the Part No. and it's rather inexpensive. Maybe worth swapping out to avoid any costly future repairs, thanks for the tip!
