I remember when I came as a kid, Suess Landing was MAGICAL during the Christmas season. They had snow machines and I remember Grinch roaming. We also did a meet and greet with him and I remember him telling my little brother to run along and go play out in the streets 🤣. Really great memories.
This is such a great video that’s both very informative and visually appealing! I never noticed the lack of straight lines in this land and just thinking about that makes me love it more.
I’m really enjoying this historic and factoid trip around the islands. It’s been an adventure. Also I’ve noticed the use of b roll shots becoming better in a way that I can’t specifically explain. The polish has gotten downright professional looking.
Great video. We do not even have little kids anymore, but still love spending time in Seuss Landing. And one of the most under the radar things at UO are the Seuss topiaries.
It's a small thing, but I really enjoy the black shading around the costume components of the Seuss characters, to lend to the illusion of the rough ink lines of their drawings. The characters are very simple in design, which could make for a very bland and lifeless costume if not done correctly. Fortunately though, this isn't the case. The other thing is how much upkeep you have to do in a zone like this. All the colors have to be bright and clear, and as soon as things start to weather or wear, it's immediately obvious, unlike an area themed to rough rock or even normal buildings. It must be a huge chunk of maintenance's workload keeping this land as sharp as it is.
one thing id like to find is an archive of the pa/loudspeaker characters in the park especially those two goons ranting about treasure that you can hear on repeat in the bathroom
It's a bit hard to realize that the executives choosing Suess in mid-90s (and Popeye, Dudley Do Right, etc) were people 40-50 years old at the time. That meant, their childhood was in 60s and 70s. Suess was massive in book and TV special format. Not Potter level, but amplified cuz only 3-4 channels on TV.
I see that there’s a new movie coming out in the next few years. Do you think there will be any new rides? Would love for a ride like secret life of pets to open there.
