Valve neglecting warpaints really gets me into a balkan rage... But not everyone relates, as it's only for those who know. Either way, this awesome video had me in a jamaican smile. Over and out!
wow honestly this video just made me realize how much warpaints have truly been neglected. I knew about the bad ones and wondered how those were even in the game but this made me think about how they really could have had something special with the warpaints if valve truly cared about the selection of the skins along with changing some features of applying the skins altogether.
the reason why they don't touch the weapons besides decorated variants/warpaints because it could fuck with people recognizing what the enemy is using, also yeah valve sucks dookie ass in picking warpaints (thankfully has been getting a lot better)
I can see that being an issue but if they're selective of what warpaints make it and include details to help with recognition I don't see why they don't. They made it work with CSGO so I'm positive they can make something work with warpaints in TF2 but that's a pretty large ask from Valve atm
Good vid, there's plenty of people that have used dragon slayer as a paint base and even custom coded their own too on the workshop, Valve just has to drag and drop them, the potential is there, Valve just doesn't utilize any of it even though its pretty easy
I just wish they wouldn’t add so many to one case. We don’t need as many as there are. I think it was the summer 2023 that only had like 7 skins or something. The one with steel brushed, that was nice.
Not a huge fan of the focus on the market value of items over them just being good looking in this video. I just like good looking war paints man i don't care about rare weapon skins that go for a bazillion dollars on the now impossible to get into tf2 market.
If only Valve actually gave us tools to make proper warpaints and not just texture swaps (the only things that get into the game for the most part), or at least added skins that go extra mile and edit the warpaint code to achieve something that is not possible with the basic methods most people are using. Custom coded skins like Woodchipper, Capture Zone, Train Robber's and many others. I encourage you to look them up to understand what Valve is refusing to add.
Because the wear system freaking sucks, if you want a strange factory new paint, you'd have to pay over 20 dollars. And even non-strange factory new can cost up to 5 dollars. The fact that 80% of warpaint looking like Christmas/halloween vomit does not help
I don't think wears are a bad thing, some wears on certain skins really do make them look better, I can see why people would want wears removed though. It should just be a style option like hats have instead, or you choose the wear when you apply the skin with a slider
As someone who adores warpaints, It’s a real shame there is no custom model placement. That would make the warpaints so much better than they are, and more interesting and unique for others. I don’t know about unusuals on warpaints because of the fact it may be a lot of visual clutter on a characters body, which could be way too distracting for some. Or heck just not work intendedly sometimes, it’s the reason why energy orb was discontinued, but yet again amazing video Sookus 🧡
The visual clutter does seem like an issue but they already killed off unusual miscs so realistically most of the time you'll only see a player with 1 unusual effect on at a time (unless they just have a boatload of wealth) so having more weapon unusual effects could be another way to enhance your loadouts imo
I'm surprised you didn't mention how when paints were introduced, Valve thought about making weapons directly paintable. And I guess in the end, they thought War Paints would be the best way to go about it, which makes sense because everyone having Australium Gold or neon pink weapons would be stupid. But yeah, good video. It's super unfortunate how the potential of this feature was ran into the ground with absolute trash item choices, which then resulted in *more* cookie cutter sticker paints being created for the express purpose of being added and so forth. Although, the "boring" paints that get added have been a MASSIVE step up, because it's actually desirable to have a black tactical looking Sniper Rifle / whatever weapon in comparison to a holiday sticker piece of slop. So that's cool.
These ideas are great, honestly, but the problem is that it’s Valve we’re talking about. They’re just extremely lazy and unresponsive when it comes to implementing changes, even if they’re just minor fixes to the already existing items. This is the reason why some weapons lack albedo shines when originally they’re supposed to have one. As Eric Smith said, some players might just be used to having the war paints as they are right now, even though I bet most of us would absolutely love to see albedo shines to be added. Also the "leave a multibillion dollar indie game studio company alone" mentality plays its part here.
Keep in mind a lot of people also said "it's valve, they're lazy" to the #fixtf2 thingy. We can't be that sure of a movement failing if we don't try at all.
@ that’s was a major problem that directly affected their image/profits. Not adding albedo tints won’t stop thousands of people still pouring money into the war paint cases.
Imo it's an excuse to not add it to the game. I understand Eric is a 1 man band right now but I highly doubt many players would get offended by adding more weapons to the pool of options for warpaints. I think the community should be holding valve accountable for neglecting their games so this was my attempt too do so by laying out what went wrong and where they got lazy with warpaints.
I got the feeling that Valve was just doing nepotism for their kids that just graduated high school and wanted to give them an easy job of making sticker warpaints. Workshop creators just arent in the Valve family so they get passed over. "My son Timmy needs his first job, may you grant him an assignment?" "Sure thing Valve buddy, look, your son just made a classic! Croc Dusted."
Another problem with this whole skin system is that it is so insanely variable that it ends up saturating the interest of a community that is currently small compared to Valve's other titles. I mean, in Dota or CS Go/2 having a community that reaches over a million simultaneous players every day, it makes sense that so many variable elements in their skins create enough interest in their community to give importance to all this content, but in TF2 having a significantly smaller community that has 6 different skin levels, added to the probability of unusual effects, wear level, strange variants and pattern variants with very small probabilities of an "asiimov" version, they created a monstrosity that we were not and will not be prepared for. Valve by adding all this should have taken into account the TF2 community and created a more modest and regulated system that maintains the attention of its players. I mean, while in Cs Go/2 you can get for example at best an "asiimov factory new strange" in Tf2 at best you could get an "Asiimov Skin Factory New Strange Unusual professiona killstreak (with best effects) festivized" Do you understand how ruinous it can be for the economy of a game whose community doesn't give a go to so many variants that would perfectly never exist on the market and if they did, there probably wouldn't be anyone interested in such loot?
@@sookusproductions Quick Google search says no they act exactly like weapon skins...... Was there an update that changed it in the past 5 years since those posts?
@ I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I can see other players warpaints and weapon skins in game. If you meant something else please lmk cuz sometimes i can misinterpret stuff lol!
@ Weapon skins and warpaints don't show in DX8 mode. A lot of people run configs that use DX8 for maximum performance especially back when they were added.
If ur talking about emporium then I don't think they have much to do with this. The main issue is readability. TF2's visuals were designed carefully with readability in mind. Everything, from color placement to visual effects, is purposeful. This also applies to war paints and hats, you can't just add stuff for the sake of it. They stopped making reskins because newer players had no idea what they were (postal pummler for example) unusual effects on war paints make it hard to tell if you're firing the weapon, adding more is not a good idea. festivisers look awful and have already obscure visuals, adding more is an awful idea, festive weapons are superior anyway Personally, I like the old-school skins more simply because they're made with a weapon in mind, you can't make a high roller's warpaint and they wouldn't be that special since they can be applied everywhere. And let's be honest hats will forever be TF2's thing, I like skins as much as the next guy but hats are just more popular.
im just writing this as i watch the video and making notes. 1. not every weapon should be warpaintable, nor *can* every weapon be warpaintable, think about weapons like the natasha or backburner that are simply their stock counterparts but slightly different, if you saw a warpaintable backburner you might not realize that its not the stock flamethrower. however i will agree with you that not having all stock weapons be paintable is a shame 2. most warpaints are trash because of a cycle between valve and the community, valve chooses shitty warpaints, so the community creates shitty warpaints, its simple. on the note of shitty warpaints however, a number of the warpaints we have in tf2 were actually screwed by valve, simply because they neglected to add the code the workshopper requested. valve just doesnt give effort, and so neither will the workshoppers. however, thats not to say theres some workshoppers that go above and beyond, for example, theres some workshoppers who go out of their way to change tf2's code to create really good custom warpaints, if you want to see some examples check out Woodchipper and Beyond Doomed 3. i too would like to see new festivizers, but i believe they should be handled with extreme care, the lunon one would be good, but needs some sort of limiter, wether it be scarcity or perhaps removing the paintability feature 4. your idea of having dragon slayer esque warpaints (we call them uv skins) being higher grades, with pattern based being lower grades, is a good idea
Yeah I guess having every weapon warpaintable could be a problem but I think that area can easily be covered by giving them warpaints that are exclusive to that weapon (like dragon slayer)
