Actually, giving the game to Peter on purpose can be seen as a sign of disrespect. The Victory means absolutely nothing when you haven't earned it. It would have been much better for Lin Dan to play at full potential. I will give you the best of me as a tribute to you for your last Match."* Anybody who gives less than 100% effort on the court is a sign of Disrespect. Reading a lot of comments here, initially it was unbelievable to me that Lin Dan intentionally was not playing to his potential. Later I got to know that this match was an exhibition match between Super Dan and Peter. No doubt, Peter has played his best meanwhile Dan hold himself up a little bit from playing to win. Definitely both have enjoyed playing and Dan probably wanted more with another legend (just a theory) instead of winning and ending this match early. I think all can see that in second last set Dan did not played that much offensive although it was top level play still. And in last set Dan continue to play defensive and keep clearing/dropping even when he was in perfect position to smash. Even though nothing is proved but I'm starting to believe that Super Dan played to enjoy this match than winning actually as he knows it will be last time, Gade would be playing singles professionally. Great match to watch.
You don't need to prove it. If you've been following Lin Dan since the beginning, you KNOW he threw this match on purpose. Reason 1 : He was losing 14-4 in the first set. All of his unforced errors that led up until there are for him to show everyone that he can catch up a deficit of 14-4 to win the first set. Reason 2 : At multiple times, he was indeed, like you said, in PERFECT position to finish the point, he just did a drop shop for fun, like he was toying with Gade. Reason 3 : Lin Dan isn't super well known for his acting, you can see that a lot of his shots were forced into the net or out, and even at times, even if he could have defended it, he did not position himself in the middle to block a smash, he would just be standing on one side of the court to let Gade win the point. Reason 4 : 1:07:30, shot was either in or very very close to the line, when have you seen Lin Dan not even caring? Reason 5 : Lin Dan was at his peak from around 2007 to 2013 ish, in no way can Gade, at the end of his career, be able to win Lin Dan, who is known to be the GOAT, but not only that, the most stable and mentally fit player ever in men's singles. Reason 6 : Gade's reaction at the end shows it all, he was happy to win, but not with immense joy, he knew very well that Lin Dan didn't play at his full potential. Reason 7 : How could someone beat Gade in front of his home crowd on his LAST match, and not feel bad for doing it? Of course he would let Gade win. Or do you want to hear the stadium boo-ing?

first super Dan come back from 7-0 and won first game , later he gave away gift to Gade . May be a good gesture but its against sportsman spirit . Finally a memorable win for Gade at home .

This was Peter Gade's farewell match. Lin Dan is so generous in giving points, though Peter is a toughnut. In normal cases, the opponent will make the other player win in latter's farewell game. Same is happened here as well.
