The growling is still a specific skill. And its well appreciated among metal heads. A rational metal head would never blame or judge someone who finds screaming and growling unappealing. Part of the entire apeal is that is not an appealing sound. Its a taste. Its also fun as fuck at show to go wild and get into a circle pit. But truly the metal vocals in so many artists are respected by the most popular vocalists. They hear the complex nature and the talent it takes to perfect them. It's just simoly outside of the majority of the populations music tastes. And that perfectly fine.
I do try to go out of my way to say that as much as I dislike a lot of the growling, I do see the technicality involved and it is quite a thing to pull off! I have about a 50% hit rate so far in being able to enjoy a song regardless of the growling, which is think is pretty decent lol
I’d highly recommend doing a TesseracT deep dive. Their whole discography is damn near perfect. This song is off their new album and it’s my album of the year though if you wanna check out some of their previous work, I’d check out the songs Dystopia Concealing Fate pt 1 (Portals version) Hexes
As Tall as Lions are fucking great. Dan Nigro is so talented, I wish he was still in a band, singing beautiful, melancholic melodies, but he seems to be doing amazing in mainstream pop these days:)
From Tesseract, Skyharbor, White Moth Black Butterfly, ZETA, his own albums and Earthside, to his random covers on YT and many other projects I have yet to dig up, Dan Tompkins is in a class of his own vocally and doesn't disappoint. Check out any of the projects I listed above if you like Dan.
I'm surprised how many times people have brought up Matt Bellamy when listening to this song. I'm not super familiar with Muse, but it's still interesting to see people have a similar thought.
The type of melodic screaming you're talking about is called "pitched vocal fry". One of the strongest examples of this style was Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.
From the new album, title track "War of Being" and "Burden" are highly recommended. I go back to Legion the most for that vocal. And I just love that build; the instrumental/vocal mix is just perfect. 👌Older tracks, I recommend "Tourniquet" and "King". So many dope songs though. Great reaction mate! Definitely be tuning in for more. 🤘 Also, I caught an interview with Chris Liepe (big voice coach RUclipsr) and Dan Tompkins from TesseracT talking about this vocal recording; was really interesting, and apparently a very emotional experience for Dan. That part where he goes into the screaming was the final recording, and he just put everything out there (the producer was being a hardass), so you basically hear him breaking down, but utilizing it at the same time. Don't wanna ruin it, it's a good interview/reaction, but I mention it mostly because Chris made the same Jeff Buckley comparison. lol "Metal's Jeff Buckley" has a great ring to it.
I’ll go check out that interview, sounds pretty interesting! And I’ll go back and check out some of their older stuff too, I like to chart the progression of a band sometimes 😂
5pm is the perfect time for these to drop, just saying. It's just right for winding down from work. Now, bear with me on this. There's bands that have clean guitar sounds, and bands with distorted guitar, and there's bands where the guitarist is skilled enough to find the edge of the amp's breakup, and the guitar tone goes back and forward over that edge. That's what that singer seems to be doing with his vocal fry (aka screaming). And that surely takes a truckload of skill.
Mate it is actually fucking nuts what that guy is doing. I have no idea how he’s pulling it off, or why no one else is talking about him, but that was genuinely some of the best singing I’ve ever heard. And you know I don’t just exaggerate for the sake of it.
Ohhh more Tesseract reactions, yeah? You got a new subscriber! Best band ever! Check out the songs Burden and War of Being. Or the whole new album, it’s fantastic! Previous release Sonder is also amazing.
This one is a banger from beginning to end. The background music really sets the mood. The only part I didn't like was the part when he sings "I bind you", mostly because of the shift in the voice and the music. It feels like it goes from standard rock to Marilyn Manson without warning
Tesseract's Altered State album is probably right up your alley. Different singer but just as amazing and no screams. Somehow seems to be more atmospheric with his vocals too. Daniel is a better singer, but Ashe has a crazy atmospheric sense
Voice is definitely not as pleasant as this guy's, to me, but if you want another take on screaming and shit, you might want to check out a Japanese band, Ling Tosite Sigure (the "si" is pronounced "shi", but they're using a crappy romanization scheme), or solo stuff from their guitarist/vocalist, TK. They're a 3 piece and do like math/prog post-hardcore stuff. If you want to get a bunch of weeb traffic, you can do Unravel (TK solo), which was an OP from Tokyo Ghoul. If you want less weeb traffic, but from weebs with better taste in anime, you could do Abnormalize (whole band), which was the OP for Psycho Pass. Incidentally, if you watch Psycho Pass, just pretend only the first season exists, and then it's really excellent sci-fi.
You know, I’ve never watched any anime? Unless Pokemon counts 😂 I was thinking though, I’ve been doing music constantly on this channel, but i was considering throwing in maybe some tv/film, just to kinda expand things a little
@@markabusireactions I find it interesting, then, that you’ve said some stuff gave you anime music vibes. Some anime is very good. Most of it is trash. I wouldn’t know where to start. I can recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to literally anyone, but if that’s your first, you’re going to be disappointed by almost anything that follows.
@@daaaaaave I’ve never watched anime but I know what the music kinda sounds like, just from being on the internet. Also, I just remembered, I watched Akira when I was like… 12 😂 not a clue what it was about, I just remember a wee guy shouting TETSUO constantly
Absolute tune man
This song is fucking epic! I can't stop listening to it. Great reaction, thanks!
Dan is singing and screaming his heart out on this one! Such and emotional performance by Dan.. Banger
Yeah I absolutely loved this song, I can’t deny it 😂
I love it 👊@@markabusireactions
Dan has a great voice. Seeing them live this month and i believe they are doing this song. Excited.

I completely second this. Do a deep dive :) April is a good one.
Gotta do war of being 🤌🏻

it’s been added to the list though, thank you for the recommendation! ☺️☺️

It’s the really high falsetto. Listen to Plug in Baby, you’ll notice the similarities, trust me!

@@markabusireactionsno need, Dan is one of the best in the metal game right now, along with Spencer from Periphery and Andy from Monuments

Original of Symmetry is great. The rest can get in the bin, with a few exceptions here and there 😂
