- How to enable #ambient light menu in #VW Golf MK7 using OBDeleven. This will change old sliders layout of the interior lights to the new Background Lighting #menu for ambient illumination. Quick coding and adaptation change in BCM and MIB will activate new menu with cogs/suns to control brightness of different light zones. The same procedure can be done with VCDS.

💻 Coding procedure
Module 09 (Security Access: 31347) → Adaptation:
→ Interior light, light configuration → Ambientemenue mit alle Zonen → active
→ Interior light, light configuration → Ambientemenue mit globalem aus → active
For pre-facelift vehicles, if the Background Lighting menu has no image, you can try to change vehicle configuration to facelift model and check if that helps.

Great tutorial! My radio was upgraded on my mk7 and since the upgrade i had only the black screen with single button to adjust all lights at once, when previously i had individual sliders. You cant imagine how happy this makes me

@@mrfixpl sadly, for whatever reason, my adaptation channel "Interior light, light configuration" on Centra Electrics 09 does not contain options you specify. My channel contains -

All of these options seem like only specifying which lights are installed, nothing in regards to menu behaviour (besides the color selection Farbwahl which is useless on golf lights)

Also when I tried to atleast enable the background via changing the car model it did not work (ive also restarted headunit). It stayed at regular mk7 hatch model.

I'll try to look around if it's maybe in different location but I was pressed for time so I could not go deeper.
It might be old software. Both in BCM (without the ambient menu options) and in MIB (pre-facelift firmware - I'm actually running 0478).

@mrfixpl updating 0478 fixed the background image issue but (as expected given bcm was not updated) those adaptation options are still unavailable

anyone know how to activate the others cogs ? i activate verbaufinformation 3 and 4 all 1111111 but i don't have any cogs on the mib only verbaufinformation 1-2 for footlight and door
I have the variant 7.5 with the MiB 2.5 system. I’ve activated this menu plus the color list 1 and 2 so 30 colors. But I have some rgb led strips, is it possible to connect to the system ? So I can change colors through the infortaiment.

5F byte 2 is not available/labeled in VCDS. Would be great if you have information about how to change supplement to facelift
bytes 0-2 are grouped together.
I coded everything as you described and I only have the ALL button with the slider for the lights door and footwell lights. I don't have the two little cogs where I can change the lights individually by area. Before the recode, like your car, I also had the individual sliders in the lights menu. Do you know what could be wrong? I have an MK7.5 GTI.
Try also changing this:
P ambientelicht verbauinformation HMI = 17
P ambientelicht verbauinformation HMI2 = 84
If those adaptation channels accept binary strings, use:
HMI = 00010001
HMI2 = 01010100

If you have MIB2 unit (MST2 or MHI2) you can enable offroad display. Older MIB1 units (MSTD, MHIG) do not support it.

both PRO and ULTIMATE will be fine here.
Would it be possible to adjust when the ambient light comes on or off? For example, keeping them on for a few seconds when the car is off or turning them on when unlocking the car?
Possible. Check my video about cup holder retrofit. There are delay parameters that you can adjust for different interior light zones.

Hello. I have changed Mib 1 to Mib 2.5. I can't set the suns to adjust the lighting. I follow the movie and nothing. What could be the reason? Do you need to change the BCM as well?
Would need to dive deep into 5F adaptations. Most likely something is missing due to the retrofit.

Hello . I have factory installed Ambient Lighting . Somebody did for me a retrofit to MIB 2 discover pro . Now i don’t have the ambient light in the menu on the infotainment and they only work as the interior light , only when i open the door and when i close the door they shut down . In OBD eleven i do not have the menus you wrote here . Is there any solution ?

the coding works, but the circles to select the zone don't come out, I can only manage them all together. How can I activate the zones?

I coded it 1:1 exactly like you, but I still don't have the background image.
Try rebooting the unit.

Hi, I have just retro fitted front & rear footwell lights to my 2019 1.5 tsi Golf and they work when I open the door then gradually dim when I close the doors but when I use the brightness adjustment slider on the infotainment system it has no effect on the lights. Do my headlamps need to be on for this slider to work or can you spot anything below in the settings I used below using the latest VCDS tool? Thanks

This completely worked for me and allows for HMI dimming adjustment.
I based all of this coding off of my friends 2019 Golf R. This should work fine in a 2018 as well as my friends 2018 GSW has the same adaptions.
Any tips why i dont get the menu unlocked? My light slider also is now gone. After reverting the changes its still missing 😅

Nice catch! Actually I have Technisat unit with 04xx firmware which was designed for facelift cars.
I had to do this in order to get USB HUB support. Now that I think about it, I should have mention this in the video.

This depends on the vehicle if it supports it. In my case it was possible.
