This song is so beautiful. It invokes a feeling of sadness and longing, but also a feeling of peace.
Those aren't the lyrics to this song, don't know where those lyrics came from but i0ve seen them used as a translation for many russian soviet songs and it never was correct, i really don't know what's up with that
Rather a depressing song. About the dying wishes of a comrade as he lays in the steppe.
This is the very recognizable voice of the legendary Evgeny Belyaev, one of the greatest lyric tenors of the 20th century and the Alexandrov Ensemble's brightest star. I think, judging by the sound of it, that the recording dates to the 1970s. There are many Belyaev videos on RUclips, His name in Russian is Евгений Беляев
well thnx for the info I gotta say he has a magnificent voice
@@carlosgalvez612 he and Leonid Kharitonov are great
I also found fascinating the fact that these remasters sound so good. No doubt they have been recorded in the 60-70's and they ve been remastered recently. Its unbelievable what they have done to these songs
Wilderness around,
Long way lay ahead.
In this big wild steppe
Postilion's going dead.
Gathering all strength,
Feeling bitter end,
He told to a lad,
To his best comrade:
You, my old friend,
Please forget all bad -
In this big wild steppe
Bury body dead.
Bring my horse to dad,
Thanks for doing that!
Tell my mommy please
I'm sending her a kiss.
Tell my pretty wife
My last words in life.
Could you also bring
Golden marriage ring?
Tell my wife: "Don't cry!"
Bring these word of mine:
"Crown with good men
Till your life is end."
Tell: "He's frozen dead
In this big wild steppe
And he brought your love
To the world above."
" It's very sad, about a driver dying and telling his friend to bury him in the steppe, and telling his friend to tell her wife not to be sad about him and that she can marry again, but not to forget about his love for her frozen in the steppe , It's poetic so it's hard to translate "

English Lyrics:
In the Central Steppes,
A long road lay ahead.
In those Central Steppes,
A coachman was freezing to death.
He gathered his strength,
Muttering all he can,
He grabbed his friend,
He pleaded him to follow his mandate:
You, my friend!
Don’t worry and keep calm.
In these Central Steppes,
Bury my dead body.
Bring these horses,
To my loving father
Send my mother
A bow and a kiss
Tell my pretty wife
My last words,
Bring her
This golden engagement ring.
Tell her to not cry
Don’t grieve,
Marry and crown
With good men
Until your life is at halt.
Tell her,
Your beloved has frozen
In the Central Steppes
And that I will love her
Even in the heavens above

Likely my favorite. It's about the dying of a coachman on the high road. Should hear it every Christmas to remember these true musical professionals lost today over the Black Sea. 12/25/2016. (What a joyous year what drama ending in such sorrow...)
Russian music is intensely powerful, it worms its way into my soul and never lets go
Dreadnaught VCN To me it looks like it's just coincidence.
That's what she said.
I agree, it gives the feeling of looking over a cliff, to see Moscow's lights glister in the dark void surrounding it.
The thing that makes this better than the current music, is that this tells an actual story.
Emil Stumpf Yeah. I don't listen current music. I listen patriotic songs most of the time.
Mandilski i lmao same
You obviously can't be bothered to look for good music that is coming out now
@@vincentpalermo3452 you obviously can't be bothered to look for good music from the past BUT WAIT, YOU'RE HERE, WHICH MEANS I'M WRONG! Which leaves you in the right, good lad.

Was playing Soviet Republic and this starts playing just as the first snow of the year came down on my little town, it's beautiful...
Workers and resources?
This always reminds me of Christmas time, although I know it's not about Christmas. I love listening to The Red Army Choir. Proud of the URSS.
URSS? Ahh, University of Russa State?
@@vincewilson1 he probably doesn't speak english as his first language, here in Italy for example USSR (Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics) is translated into URSS (Unione delle Repubbliche Socialiste Sovietiche), he is probably european or speaks a neo-latin language
@@vincewilson1 lol Spanish is my native tongue and abbreviation for USSR is URSS in Spanish, so that's why.
@@th3kgbdog385 yep, specifically Spanish but it also worked in French, Portuguese, Italian, etc, basically any Romance language.
@@joseandres1384 after one year, but yay!
This song always almost puts a tear or two into my eyes
The lyrics to this song are very meaningful...
And beautiful
Listening to this music makes me want to learn Russian
i'm agree !)
You definitely should. Imagine enjoying this music 100X more and then singing it yourself. This will bring tears of joy to real Russians who you sing for. You will feel connected to this rich and wonderful tradition in ways you cannot imagine now not knowing the language. Do it. You'll never look back.
Already on it lads XD (only problem is its a bitch to learn on top of french and spanish)
why not? it is very easy i learned it at a young age (native ukrainia)
Russian is probably alot easier to learn starting from Ukrainian with the languages sharing an alphabet and being related
This invokes the feeling of the old Russian wilderness before the Russian empire, before the mongols, when people lived in small villages and tribes, where culture was plenty as the natural beauty. This song is a masterpiece.
If the Soviets were tasked to make Hula music, this would be the result. This beats any pop song hands down.
yes
Wtf?
Wrong lyrics. Some phrases.
You guys arguing in the comments about what the song is about
Just act American, not understanding a single word yet the vowels are very clear
That’s how you enjoy music
I absolutely love this one.
I APPROVE!
Gorgeous
For those wondering, this song has nothing to do with Stalin as implied by a troll in these comments.
Keegan Wells
What kind of person associates this music with Stalin (In all respect for him)
It would actually make sense that this could've been Stalin's actual favorite song (to sing, listen to, etc) since it was and is a famous Georgian folk song, and Stalin was Georgian.
Fuck Christmas music, I'll be listening to this
Jakov ya~baby~
Beautiful!!! 😪😭😭
Yep, got this CD and two more from Amazon's website with songs that weren't on here that I like, namely Katyusha and Farewell of Slavianka. Why those two songs didn't make it on this collection are beyond me. Those were REAL classics!

What kind of sorcery did the Soviets use to make this kind of beautiful music ?!
Black magic. Or, maybe red magic?
Nathan Antaran It was communism, that is the answer to all your questions.
Demo Tico So.... As long as it's Communist, music is good, or am I just misinterpreting what you're saying ?
Nathan Antaran Not only the Red Army. Communist DPRK makes beautiful music too. Check out their Moranbong band - it's awesome.
Nathan Antaran The sorcery is called folklore :) It's a Russian folk song of XIX century about a coachman who got frozen to death in the middle of vast snowy steppe.
There are many old folk songs in the Red Army Choir's program such as Kalinka, Korobeiniki, Farewel of Slavianka, Polushko polye, The roads, Cossack's song etc
I fall asleep to this every night. I think of tomorrow, and the bright red future ahead.
Great song!
I like your Picture - the fact you are here is Ironic. XD

part 2.
We howled into Berlin
Tore the smoking buildings down
Raised the red flag high
Burnt the reichstag brown
I saw my first American
And he looked a lot like me
He had the same kinda farmer's face
Said he'd come from some place called Hazard, Tennessee
Then the war was over
My discharge papers came
Me and twenty hundred others
Went to Stettiner for the train
Kiev, said the commissar
There your own way home
I never got to Kiev
We never came by home
What is the original name of this song?

When I left my home and my family
My mother said to me
"Son, it's not how many Germans you kill that counts
It's how many people you set free"
So I packed my bags, brushed my cap
Walked out into the world
Seventeen years old
Never kissed a girl
Took the train to Voronezh
That was as far as it would go
Changed my sacks for a uniform
Bit my lip against the snow
I prayed for mother Russia
In the summer of '43
And as we drove the Germans back
I really believed that God was listening to me

part3
Train went north to the Taiga
We were stripped and marched in file
Up the great Siberian road
For miles and miles and miles and miles
Dressed in stripes and tatters
In a gulag left to die
All because Comrade Stalin was scared that
We'd become too westernized
Used to love my country
Used to be so young
Used to believe that life was
The best song ever sung
I would have died for my country
In 1945
But now only one thing remains
bis
The brute will to survive
The story is so sad, Stalin ruined Russia.
Stalin made the Soviet Union strong.
Strong and good aren't the same thing.
Ellie Robinson You are right Stalin made the Soviet Union Strong and Good
MasterOfChiefs Whatever helps you sleep at night kiddo.
Ellie Robinson First of all where are you from?
look for the lyrics. in reality, this is an anti-stalinist song about ww2 soviet soldiers that were sent to the gulags, by stalin, because he thought they had become "westernized".
