Wish I had found this video a few months ago. I had a hard time painting the terrain for MCP for a friend of mine. At least I have it for the future. Thanks for the tips
Great vid. However, I do have a few questions, 1 what made you come up with the bubble wrap idea, 2 would any size of wrap do and 3 can you paint a space marine and highlight it with this technique? So then I and Watch it Paint it! 😁
That’s a good question! I think I’ve seen someone use scrunched up foil or paper before. Also a sponge that was less dense with more holes. So I think a lot of things can make for random patterns and if im honest - I just had a piece of bubble wrap on my desk that I’d not thrown in the bin :-D so tried it out. I think anything that would apply paint in a random, uncontrollable pattern will work. I had the exact same thought! Will this work and create a really smooth paint job on a marine! I haven’t tried it yet but if you can get the sponge to all the armour then I think it would!
Great vid. I’ve got to grab some of those sponges. I wonder if the technique would work on space marines as they’re pretty much flat panels… On another note; How does Babar and his family do their buttons up as well as other fine motor functions….
Thanks man, I too wondered about Space Marines while I was doing this! I think I need to try that next. Including maybe with rust!? :O Haha, I don’t want to go down the Babar path, it will lead to so, so many unanswerable questions :-D
From now im in referring to sponging as Shakira Slapping...you just do it, when ever, where ever. Am i the only one who feels guilty using expensive modeling paints for terrain? I usually cheap out and use very cheap acrylics bottles even though theres no reason for that, the terrain is just as important in games and honestly on the table more frequently then thet one model i use for that one game..versus that tree, shipping container i used in tons of games.
As someone who doesn't have a girlfriend, or wife, anymore (☹) why would a sponge be needed for makeup? Also, feel free to send your leftover terrain to me 😬
@@WatchItPaintIt but why, as Ryan Reynolds would say. Why would a sponge, a majestic creature of the sea, be needed for makeup? I guess it is just one of those mysteries we men will never truly understand on our own. Btw, have you gotten your hand on the new Sternguard models yet?
@@WatchItPaintItI was going to comment on it, but it appears I was beaten to it. Also the original Starcraft copied this line for the Terran Dropship unit.
Oooh the original! I’ve not been to there. Do you have a bar!? This one was Sheffield, but I’ve also visited Nottinghams a few times too :) like them both a lot
I feel seen but also inspired! I am ready to finish some long overdue terrain projects. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting, absolutely loved this one. Texture is often under-rated for the realism it provides. Well played sir, well played.
Yeah, I’d not really considered it before. It the texture just makes it look a lot closer to metal, rusty, weathered metal! Its really cool!
This is super awesome. I may have to give that a shot with some of my printed terrain.
It’s soooo worth a go. I can’t believe how easy it is, it’s a really relaxing fun way of smashing out a load of pieces! Let us know how you get on!
Probably the most realistic dumpster lids I've seen at 28-32mm. Glad to see you're an Element Local!
Thank you so much! Im about to embark into this crazy crazy hobby and this helped it feel just a tad less scary
Can't go wrong with sponges & drybrushing!
Simple yet very effective, nicely done.
Necromancer Cloak! My fave AP warpaint
Mine too!
Thanks, this was helpful!
Good stuff!!

Sponges 4 President!
Sponge painting and stippling is so underrated, especially for big models.
It would get my vote! I’m a huge fan now :D
Bloody love your content :)
Thank you :-) glad you enjoyed it!!

Where’s a good place to get the little posters?
I just googled for them - www.google.com/search?q=printable+28mm+scale+posters
@@WatchItPaintIt thank you and awesome work
You missed the opportunity to call this 'SpongeChop' technique. =D
Damnnnnnnnnnn. I’ve going to lose sleep over knowing I missed that :,(
is it just me or does it seem that the scale of the Crisis Protocol stuff (scenery) to be way off?
Glad you mentioned this. I was thinking the same last week. But not being American I wasn’t sure how large garbage dumpster are!!
I mostly use a makeup sponge... mostly.
I just watched that scene 30s ago. So acting. Much wow.
@@WatchItPaintIt Awesome movie. I used to Cosplay as a Colonial Marine 🪖

Could you tell which it was?
No I couldn't my "local" is Stockport, the clip wasn't that revealing

yes they have or at least had a bar, which was unknown to me prior to my first visit! Hence the 3 figure spend :)
Nooks and cranberries lmao

Thats not normally something you would admit to on a RUclips video
:-D
Great tips, but you truly need to upgrade from Carling. You are a famous youtuber now. You can drink better lagers :)
Yay. You win the bonus prize. Was hoping someone would notice that :-D I hate carling but had no nice beers in the house :-D
