    Overall it is not a bad device - all the futures work as described.
    However I can't say it's worth the price or it is secure to use.
    Also and I didn't have any connection issues, but I have really fast 5 gHz wi-fi and fiber-optic in my apartment. And I'll explain why it is important.
    I've found only two issues with the device so far.
    One is not that important - night light feature is useless, the led used for it is even less bright than status led. Even in the middle of the night, when all other light sources are off, I can't recognise if night light is on or off - you have to look at the back of the camera to see if it really on.
    The second issue is not really really an issue, but the way the device is designed and the reason why I probably send the device back.
    The camera itself is pretty dumb, real AI lives on cloud servers where camera streams all the time.
    Literally all the time, not when movement is detects, not when something happens, but always.
    Even if baby is not in the crib, it streams video and audio all the time.
    You could later view/listen recordings in the timeline, but the real reason why device does this - it doesn't have any smart functionality on it's own - all the analysis is performed in a cloud.
    It means everything what device sees/hears are stored somewhere and it poses as HUGE security risk.
    There are no hardware or software way to turn the microphone off. There no way (and probably technical possibility) to send only data when you have a baby in a crib, as it in order to determine if baby is in the crib it has to send recording to their servers.
    It also means that if you have poor internet connection or no subscription device turns into simple local streaming camera with no smart functionality at all.
    For the same reason you have to sleep "night hours" when sleep analysis will be performed - camera doesn't know if your baby sleeps or not and in order to reduce load on their servers they only analyse what was recorder at night.
    Even if you don't care about security (like your nursery is pretty sound insulated) it feels strange to pay hundreds for a camera which is not smart and then pay for the subscription which delivers smart features.

      I'm loving it! The only problem I had was with the breathing band because sometimes give us a red alert so loud and my wife and I got really scared. But overall the camera is great! Nice image quality and my parents that live in other country they can see and talk to her as well. It's a really nice baby monitor and sometimes they have a deal. I got mine on mother's day and was $100 cheaper what was great

    Cry detection and face down detection are really important to us. I was wondering whether the notification that it sends out is a text style notification and alike tweet chime only? I.e. my concern is that we would be sleeping, it would make a little short tweet for a few seconds and we would miss that our baby is face down or crying?

    • @dadverb
      @dadverb  3 года назад +3

      From a performance and quality perspective, they are very similar. Nanit has mostly just added more functionality with growth tracking and breathing monitoring which some parents might favor.

  • @Steven-up2gy

    Just for anyone considering purchasing this monitor, be careful. I bought the new model when our baby came along last September. Had nothing but issues from the get go with the connection constantly dropping out, having to re-pair it over and over. It happened so much they sent us a replacement camera... Same things. This happened across 3 different households, 3 different internet connections with 3 different router setups.
    Finally I caved and have requested a refund which their support team (who are fantastic) are honouring. Be really really careful because this isn’t a cheap monitor.

      @@kendrick6199 maybe! If it was a toaster it wouldn’t bother me, but I’m not willing to risk my baby. It all worked out anyway, Cubo gave me a full refund. We ended up purchasing a non wifi Vava baby monitor which was 1/4 the price and has been flawless. Turns out we much prefer having a dedicated screen to keep an eye on bubs while she sleeps as opposed to using our phone also which is an unexpected bonus.

    I have a question about the Cubo you might be able to answer. Do you know if you can see the camera stream on your phone when they are both on the same network (Wi-Fi) but there is no Internet? I know Nanit is able to do that, but couldn't get a clear answer on the Cubo.

    Thanks for the review, I am interested in going from a Snoo to Montessori floor bed and would like a system that will help keep track of my baby. Since I plan to forego the crib, the major concern is the baby may roll out of bed, do you think a Cubo’s danger zone would be able to detect this? Also do you think Nanit’s breathing analytics will alarm me if baby isn’t in the frame anytime?

    I have the cubo ai, just got it in the mail this past Sunday. The picture quality does not look as good as yours and other reviews I’ve seen for the cubo ai. Wondering if there’s anything I could do to improve this or fix the issue? We’ve updated everything and my husband and I both have the iPhone 12 Pro Max, I’m pretty bummed that the picture quality isn’t as good as is advertised and from the reviews I’ve seen. I was specifically looking forward to the night vision since I keep my 5 month old in a pitch black room for naps during the day so I was hoping the night vision would be better. I really wanted to love this monitor but from how the picture quality turned out and how much it lags sometimes I don’t know if I’ll be keeping it.. Love that you can chat with the cubo support on the app, already messaged them about the same issues, just wanted to see if you had any tips? Also, mine doesn’t tune out the white noise as much as it does on your review, I could hear my daughter more/louder than the white noise I play for her in the back go but it’s not as tuned out. Genuinely asking for help!i really wanted to love this monitor but I have major doubts now.. Hope you reply. Love all your videos and reviews!

    • @ericbrearley
      @ericbrearley 3 года назад

      We noticed the night time picture quality isn’t as sharp as the day time too. Daytime it’s great. I can’t imagine any other baby monitor camera doing any better, especially in a pitch black room. The night mode uses infrared light, maybe you could try placing an infrared booster light like the LIFX Nightvision A19 in the room? But it might not help with clarity, just allow you to see more. For what it’s worth I’ve never seen an infrared video stream that’s clear, you might be against a technical limitation in what’s available in consumer electronics.

    • @stevenwhitright

      if you’re not happy with this quality you might need to step out of the consumer market and make something

    Hi, is there a baby monitor that records the night which allows the parent to look at the overall night instead of just reply events identified by the monitor. The reason is I feel the events (awake) isn’t accurate identified by Nanit and not able to better assess my baby’s night sleep.

    Hi - Another Q on functionality if the internet drops out. I reached out to Cubo and they said that if the internet is down, Cubo does have a LAN mode function that will allow the Live stream and audio to work as long as the mobile device is connected to the same WiFi Access Point. I can't see this literally anywhere on their website or the internet though - have you seen this in action since you posted last year, and if so does it work ok? Thanks

    Hey Andrew! I saw that you mentioned the Hatch noise maker again and I wanted to pick your brain a little more on that. I personally am super into smart home devices and most of our house is controlled by our google assistant. In posting on reddit in their smart home sub, a lot of people actually recommended against the hatch and instead they preferred using their smart speaker for noises and setting up light routines for their smart bulbs. Can you speak to that at all? Are there any reasons you would recommend the hatch as opposed to other integrated items?

    • @dadverb
      @dadverb  3 года назад

      Going with a smart speaker and bulbs is a great direction to go and it's what we did with our firstborn. But for us we scaled down to Hatch for a few reasons. First, it was simple and we didn't really need a big setup with lights and sounds like we wanted in our master bedroom. Second, we have semi-frequent service interruptions in our area and wifi would get knocked out which would mess with our lights and halt while-noise sounds. The Hatch can continue on battery alone. Lastly, it was great and easy to travel with. While it doesn't have the greatest sound and light output like and Echo+Hue setup, we favor its reliability and portability.

    How much did you get paid for this review? Interesting that all video reviews rate this so highly, but the truth about this device and app is in all the real customer reviews. This is a dreadful device. It freezes overnight constantly and doesn't reconnect automatically, it destroys your phone battery and sometimes it just can't be bothered to work until you restart your phone for some reason.
