I watched this video before buying and was expecting a solid but not superlative performance. I've lived with my s809 HCS for a year and honestly I'm blown away. We watch alot of movies and the s809s are great for dialogue and moving sounds. As Andrew said, definitely go with a sub or two, but once you have those the s809 shine. Hard to believe sometimes that they're 'entry level'. I added atmos modules recently and it elevated the performance even further. I love great sound, however I am not obsessed so these are the perfect solution for me. Looks, well priced and a stunning sound (to me).

I love Jamo ! At my stereo system I'm using C103. Sound is very dynamic, exactly in the way I like. Kudos for saying out loud what other reviewers would not say. It's true that You don't need audiophile grade gear to really enjoy music everyday. Specific Jamo speaker that I've always wanted to hear but never even seen them live is Jamo R907. Greetings !

Purchased the Jamo s-809 towers and a Cambridge audio AXr85 and I'm very impressed with Everything about both. The AXr85 is clean British sound. Matched with the Jamo S-809 speakers(which I had doubts about) is just freaking awesome in my small living room. I Purchased a pair of $1,000 speakers a few years past and mated them with a tube amp and the clarity and sound stage of the Cambridge and Jamo is nothing but outstanding. The thing I love most about the pairing,no fatigue at all. Loud, intelligible and punchy!!!!

Jamo makes killer speakers. People would be happy with any of their towers even if they paid 5x the price. Jamo is a home audio hack. I blew them off for years because of how cheap they are despite always hearing good things. Bought a whole Jamo 5.1 speaker package on offerup for $60 and have been amazed at the sound quality of the s246 towers. Was going to flip them but they sound better than my $3000 KEFs. Its hard to believe how goid they sound.

I have S805, and with or without subwoofer you can really enjoy all sorts of music and always wanting more.
So, Andrew review of S 809 is on point. I have listen to S 809 without subwoofer and S 805 with and without subwoofer and have chosen S805 with subwoofer.
I can't be more happy with them for that amount of money.
Keep it up Andrew, you really make good points and easy watching videos.

I really appreciate these reviews of affordable speakers (I enjoy all your reviews 👍) and testing them with a variety of amplification price points. Your review of the Arylic A50 especially caught my attention since I've been thinking of putting something in my game room and don't want to spend a lot of money on a basic stereo system. Keep up the excellent work!

I like the advice you always give at the end of each video, and you are 100% correct about it “ the only person who has to like it is you “ that’s some good advice because I’ve had so many arguments with friends and even so called experts about what sounds best in the past, and about what sounds best and the price doesn’t necessarily mean better.
You offer a lot of good advice.
    Thankyou.

I just found this channel randomly. Had never heard of it until 24hrs ago. It is interesting that this gentleman is able to convey the sound of speakers without actually ever playing any sound out of them (If I missed something that part or video please disregard that statement lol I'll stand corrected).
Your use of the English language is wonderful keep up the great work! It would be cool to see you play the same "generic" copyright free music or film "esque" sounds (explosions, dialog, film scores... ex). I understand that it would be a very difficult task to accomplish especially with youtubes algorithm. Either way excellent catalog of robust information you and your team have here thank you for sharing your expertise with the world. 😃👍
Love the out take btw that was awesome! 😂

I bought the s809 with the s83 center channel, s801 surrounds, and J10" sub bundle for about $650 total a couple years back. I now have a full home theater system with 135" screen and BenQ 4k projector and I absolutely love them! Only thing i have done so far is switch out the Jamo J10 sub for a Klipsch R12SW sub ($200) for a little more deeper bass. I sometimes think if i should "upgrade" to the Klipsch RP series speakers, but i honestly just keep getting blown away by these speakers and I just cant justify spending that much more to get the Klipsch. I love the Jamo speakers so much I ended up installing 4 of the Jamo 8.5CS in ceiling atmos speakers and just recently in the past 2 weeks upgraded my reciever to the Onkyo RZ50 (thanks to your review!) to power the 5.1.4 system. And you were right, DIRAC Live just made my Jamo system sound even better after the calibration! The in ceiling speakers are absolutely amazing and im glad i got them when I did, cause i got them on sale 2 years ago for $70 a pair, and now they sale for $200-$300 a pair! Im truly a Jamo fan. I also purchased the white S803 bookshelf speakers for my gaming desk and am using the J10Sub along with that set up and again just blown away with the performance. I have recently helped get my brother and his girlfriend the same jamo set up for their theater room and they love it. So again thank you so much for the amazing reviews, he was very happy with the purchase of the s809 bundle after i showed him your review of them. The Jamo S809 bundle is absolutely the best budget set up out there that sounds high end! Please keep up the great work! Oh btw, I swapped out the Denon X3700h for the Onkyo RZ50 after watching all of your videos about both those receivers lol. I hope to do a review of both my theater and game room soon.

Soon I'll be building my first home theater and I was thinking going with Jamo speakers because they are cheap and I have always liked their style. My only concern is if the S810 Jamo subwoofer would be enough since it's frequency response goes down to 36hz, which is only 4hz deeper than my current setup (Samsung HW-M550 with wireless surrounds). Do you think I'll be ok with the Jamo S810 subwoofer or should I get something that goes deeper?

    • @chevyspeed6368
      @chevyspeed6368 Год назад

@Luis Arsuaga it's not a bad subwoofer. But I did notice when I was playing the movie Bladerunner 2049 that the sub was struggling (a lot of synth soundtracks in that movie). It wasn't until I got the klipsch R12sw that I really noticed how much of the low frequency I was missing. I highly suggest the klipsch r12sw, they go on sale for $200 pretty frequently at places like adorama or Costco. The frequency of that sub goes down to 29hz.

Great down to earth review. I bought the 807s a few years back and was blown away with how good they sounded for how little I paid for them. Thoughts on 809 being much of an upgrade to the 807s? I see the 809s on sale all the time but wonder if it's even worth thinking about the minor upgrade or will I even notice much difference in sound?

    • @VioletGiraffe
      @VioletGiraffe 3 года назад +1

I haven't heard either of those, but if the only difference between them is that extra mid-base driver with everything else being the same - which is usually the case within a line of speakers such as this one - then it's safe to assume that the only difference are base extension and maximum achievable SPL (possibly). If so, you're much better off keeping 807s and adding a subwoofer. Or, if you want a real upgrade, look for a different line of speakers altogether.

I love my Polks RTI A5 They comply with all my requirements. Small towers for my small to medium size living room, beautiful furniture grade real wood finish cabinets. 90 db sensitivity at 8 ohms, easy to drive with my vintage Sansui AU 6600 or my Kenwood KA 7100 integrated amps. Not fatiguing 1 inch soft dome tweeters to listen music all day long, Two 6.5" mid - woofers produce enough fast bass for my listening space and the genres of music that I listen. Clarity, imaging and soundstage are better than my previous five different bookshelf speakers. Super happy with their sound and look. Do I need to look any further? No, unless I move into a lot bigger place.

This review put this speakers on my radar. Thank you. Finally got them this week ($229 at Adorama) to try, and found them to be a really good compliment to my 5.2.4 setup as full range directional rear surrounds in place of Def Tech PM 1000’s I was going to use(going back to the store). Great looking speakers for sure, except for the four connecting holes on the top. Saved extra funds from having to buy speaker stands too. For price paid, I would get 4 of these for matching fronts and rears, if I was just starting to build a budget 5.1 HT. Will likely sound great for both movies and multi ch. music.

For 20 years I have loved and still use my JBL Studio Series. Back in the day when I did 5 channel, I used my JBL S312 front towers, S-Center center channel, and S38 for surrounds. I still use all those and bought off ebay six S36 for use as rears and hanging from the ceiling for Atmos. I am now running those 11 speakers with two PSA S3000i subs and one PSA XS-30se sub. Whether listening to mp3, cd, sacd, or movies I get lost in the sound.

I pulled the trigger on the S809 home cinema pack on a crazy sale for $399. That's like getting a center and two surrounds for $50. No regrets! The S809 towers are exactly what I hoped and night and day compared to the tiny Yamaha home theater in a box crap I had for years. I haven't enjoyed listening to music this much in years. I purchased the Jamo S809 in black for $289 on (Amazon owned and free shipping for Primers) Woot in early October. Check back often as I've seen the offer repeated several times. I agree these speakers are a crazy good deal , ugly outriggers aside... I took a 10 band equalizer and I'm able to coax just a little more low end by boosting just the 31 hz band without distortion and these still sound fantastic to me. Perfectly fine for two channel music without a sub. The front port makes these much easier to position and the bass is impressive (tight not boomy) for the modest size. There's possibly a slight smile in the frequency response but that works fine for me. I agree with this review and appreciate the focus on attainable audio.

I have these due to your previous Jamo reviews and from a few other RUclips personalities. I have found that too close to the front wall kills a lot of the bass and soundstage. Pull them out a bit and the bass hits much better (and faster). The soundstage grows (and not just in-between the speakers). The tweeter is a 'tad' bright, but still very clear especially vocals. Enjoyable everywhere except in my listening room (it is too small). So, these have gone up for sale and I'm looking for their replacements.

    Hey Andrew,
Thanks for doing these reviews. I've enjoyed all sorts of audio equipment throughout the years but nothing on the crazy high end so my expectations are mild although I know good sound when I hear it. Your review of the C97 ii tower speakers are the reason I grabbed a pair in white and I have to say that they're fantastic speakers. The C97ii's are basically just how you described them in your other video, amazing sound and looks that I've only heard/seen by some of the higher end speakers going for well over $2k a pair. Keep up the good work and continue to review the entry level and middle of the road speakers regardless of any criticism's you might get. The value in the product that these companies can create for reasonable amounts of money is astounding and your ability to delineate these speakers is important for people to hear. Thanks again!

I owned the previous version of the Jamo S 809 (rounded top). What a great budget speaker! Buy, and save something every paycheck for a subwoofer, and not just any sub, but a SVS PSA Rhythmic etc. These speakers are thin for a tower. Adjusting the toe-in will help with the soundstage. Also as Andrew noted, the low end is insufficient and heavy. Adjust your crossover to be a minimum of 80, if not 100-110. A better sub is essential. Now your system is cooking. A set of Jamo rears are fine. I upgraded the Jamo center for the Monolith THX-365C. For home video, save and buy a better center. There are many centers to choose from. It's almost pick one, any one, as they are all good. Just some are better than others. Eventually, I gave away my Jamo system to my son and upgraded. I spent 3x as much to get a better sound, but not 3x as good, more like 1.25x as good. I can hear the difference in a pair of speakers at the $500-600 range, however not better but different than the S 809. Next step up is double the price in my opinion.

@@Koi_Lawk I suppose that could be possible....although that might result in some scenes being quieter when it puts most of the load on the center channel right? But then you could boost LR, hmm that might work.
Definitely recommend trying it unplugged, tweaked, and no mods and see what ya think. Test out scenes with left to right content aka like a plane shooting starting from the right side moving to the left. So you can carefully listen to the sound playing from the right side, then center, and then left tower audio. Machine gun fire is a good test especially as it really tests speaker quality imo.
Overall, this set is just impossible to beat for 399, so there's no going wrong. So good it doesn't even need the center channel to be good for this price. Thoroughly test all 3 methods some day, congrats

Then added their little brothers Castle Trent for another room (less than CAD$ 120). Both have their ports towards the front, giving a very much controlled bass. So far, no other speakers have pleased me as much as these have. Especially with speakers, as I think, you can get some awesome deals with vintage models.

I watched this video about a month ago and got me curious. I went and bought a pair from Adorama with a couple of dents and missing screws for the feet, but I only paid $89 for the pair. I agree with your review. Did some digging and found that the crossover network is very simple but they used cheap parts, electrolytic cap, sand cast resistor and iron core inductor for the woofers (24 ohm in parallel makes 8 ohms). The cabinet filing is not bad but not great either so there's resonance from the cabinets. I'm rebuilding the crossover with high quality parts, Sonicap capacitors, air core inductors and Mills resistors. I'm also installing 1 inch thick damping foam inside the cabinets. That should make a big improvement on the performance and make a good product even better.

Everybody's ears are different. Not everybody likes the same sound. I found that a lot of women do not like highs. There were too many variables to purchase the speaker based on somebody's opinion. I have found that I have a completely different taste in sound then my best friend who is exactly the same age as me and we grew up together. What I'm trying to say is don't be disappointed by purchasing something that somebody recommends no matter how much experience they have. You must go to a sound room and listen for yourself. I will always recommend Fluance's Signature series towers. They are simply astounding, given the price tag. For $700 you get a large three way tower (Dual 8" inch woofers, 6 inch kevlar mid, and 1" silk dome tweet) with a beautiful piano black baffle (which makes the aluminy trim ring on the tweeyer and yellow woven kevlar cone of the mid really pop) and a walnut veneer wrapped enclosure. They are bi-ampable and deliver a well balanced sound imo.
They are the one speaker that has made me loosing my forever speakers (a pair of 1986 Acoustic Research AR9LSi's) less painful. They don't have the visual impact of the massive AR's but sonically they given them a solid run for there money.

I wish RUclips videos like this had existed back when we got our TDL Saturn 10s so we could reference their performance against the new kids on the block. Absolutely agree about the S809 looks vs the C97ii. If the C97s were available in the wood finish (I have seen pictures online) and we could actually find some, they would be a compelling proposition.

Would you recommend theses over the Polk XT70's for strictly playing music in a medium sized room

I've loved and recommended Jamo speakers for over ten years now. Still have the S607 surround set myself. I think the S807 HCS paired with a decent sub is the best price to performance home cinema deal out there.

My old speakers are Jamo Cornet 70 III with a Centre 100, and Sat 160s. I suppose they are 20 years old. How would they stack up with today's speakers ? Is it worth upgrading. My old Yamaha RXV-2400 sounded good too although it has no HDMI.

Since the C97 II is very rare and hard to find like you pointed out, would you recommend the C95 or even C93 over these Jamo S809? saw some people selling used.
