- President signed into law a TikTok ban or divestment mandate. If the Chinese company ByteDance does not comply, with the said newly signed bill, TikTok will be banned in the United States as it already has been in Nepal, the United Kingdom, Montana, Australia, France, Canada, India, Taiwan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and the entire (EU) European Union.

i seen the damage off facebook to the social fabric early and though i got an account, i might get on FB but 3 times a year. i only keep it because everyone is on it, so in an emergency, i can use it to get ahold of someone. this tiktok junk. well when has china every made something good for societies? our landfill make up a solid 65% of cheap chinese made junk brands that last 1/5 the time of any other brands. everything they make is less than disposable lol.. like literally tho. a great deal of it is actually hazardous to use taboot. like a amp that catches fire because it didnt' come with an internal fuse as a safe gaurde.

While I don't like or trust Tik Tok, he has a point that banning them is taking away freedoms. Well, a step towards that goal. Why not sensor social media platforms that object to the political power's thinking? It's a double-edged sword in many ways.

I have never been on tictoc, but a ban is bad as most of the good staff on the copycats like reels are reposted tictoc videos. As someone not related to any of both countries fighting over the control of the platform here I don’t care too much who is collecting my data. At the end it’s about advertising and selling your data to businesses. So if the Chinese want a piece of this cake, so it be. BTW - totally with you that money (tax money?) should be invested in the country it’s collected first, but this won’t help big corporations and lobbies, so will never happen.

I agree with Elon that it should not be banned. They should not be forced to divest. I agree with the policy it should not be on phones used by government employees to conduct government business. All companies should have the right to ban the app on phones their employees use. I would prefer that TikTok and all other companies be required to be transparent in what data they are collecting and what they are doing with it. It should also be easy for any of their users to opt out of having their information harvested.
I love the transparency though but the problem is if the company is operated by the Chinese Communist Party, there could NEVER be transparency nor could we even ask for it.

@@jcristina I haven’t heard of any general ban here. My understanding is that the app is banned from being installed/used on any government-owned devices (but I believe that stands for most social-apps. Government devices aren’t for personal use?)
It won’t surprise me if/when the government do try to ban such platforms. Our government aren’t known for listening to the public. Some of our laws are quite bizarre…
