What's in my holster? Usually a S&W Bodyguard. 380 in a recluse holster in my pocket. Euroarms Remington 1858 my fiancé picked up for me as a birthday gift off of gunbroker. She did the bidding and everything, had no clue about it. Was a heck of a surprise when it got here. I live in Oregon home of Bigfoot. I haven't seen a Bigfoot yet, but I live in the forest in Oregon and I hope to see one someday if they do exist. I also carry a black powder revolver when I'm out in the woods, I carry Remington new model Army Sheriff model cartridge conversion and I load my own black powder 45 Colt cartridges. I also have a conversion for my Pietta 1851 Navy in 38 LC. Great video, thank you.
I carry on my farm in SC, either an SAA clone or a Remington New Model Army. In 45 Colt loaded 35 grains of 3F and 255 FP lead bullet or sometimes a Scholfield round. I worry about wild hogs, once in a blue moon black bears mostly venomous snakes. If they leave no harm no foul, if they come towards me. I stop them when they get to close
In my holster is something I'd love you to have a chance to shoot. Its a 4", stainless, double action, nitro propelled.38 sp. So far, so ordinary. But. It's a muzzle loader 🤯. 140g, soft lead wad cutter loaded over 3.3g Unique touched off with 209 primers. We can't have cartridge firing handguns, but...where there's a will 😂
I carry my Colt SAA in 45 with a 270 grain cast hollow point backed by 35 grains of 3f. Not much in northern AZ it wouldn't take care of. I recently picked up a Ruger Vaquero 45 with a 3 1/4 inch barrel that is super nice to pack around. Just need to get some leather for it and it will probably become the one I tote around. I carry a 1911 around town but for working on tractors and horses its hard to beat a single action revolver for safety.
Sometimes I carry a S&W 639 Airweight with +P hollow points. Took out an armadillo with it this spring. But I've been taking a Colt SAA black powder frame that had been converted to 38 Special and polished to death. Been shooting black powder loads in the old gun. Throw in on the seat of Kawasaki Mule.
My carry could be anything from glock 9mm, 1911 45acp, model 70 300winmag, taurus g2 9mm, heritage 22lr wheel gun, hoyt vector 32, multiple configurations and calibers of black rifles just depends on the occasion. Few of those i have not found holsters for though 😂
Oh... I've been eyeballing the hell out of a cap-and-ball .45 dragoon clone. Honestly, if I stare at it too much longer, I'm liable to burn a hole through it.
My 1851 w/ conversion would be in the top 3. Its probly the pertiest and is a great shooter. Although i dont have the loading gate, i still love shooting it and showing it off.
A question. or three... why do you keep the loading lever on the conversion? Did you do the conversion, or did you purchase the revolver already converted? If you did the conversion, did you have to sleeve the barrel? I have heard that actual .38 caliber bullets are to small for the .36.
I keep the loading lever on because I like the way it looks. I did the conversion but I sent the barrel in to get lined to .357. I tried it with the stock bore diameter of .376 but didn’t have any reasonable accuracy.
In my holster is a Ruger Redhawk double action 45 Colt with a 325 grain hard cast(Accurate 45-325N) sitting over nearly 24 grains of Power Pro 300-MP. Giving me 1,200fps with a 325 grain bullet out of a 45 Colt which is enough for the grizzlies we get here near my ranch in NW Montana as well as anything else I might encounter. I have 454 Casulls in several flavors but over the years I have come to prefer the Ruger only 45 Colt loads for both hunting and personal safety.
I holster a 1977 Ruger Police Service Six in 357 but I use 38 Special rounds. It is a good shooter and can also double as a makeshift john boat anchor in a pinch. Multitasking is good for an adventurer. I know it's not black powder but I do shoot an 1873 Springfield in 45/70 with black powder loads for deer and such. Hopefully I come across a mountain of cash in the near future because I do want to get an 1873 singe action Army Colt.
Seems to me that with you living in the south west, your biggest concern would be the occasional chupacabra. .38 special should be enough to dispatch one of those rascals.
In Poland we can get these black powder guns license-free. Safety is very important to us but just like you, we don’t freak about caring six rounds. I don’t know why some my fellow Americans get so mad when people use all the six chambers. There are two ways of carrying it safely. One method is what you mentioned, the other is carrying half-cock. Not in work just fine and not even once I’ve heard of anyone accidentally discharging in Poland due to carrying this way.
