You don't just cheer for a team, often you get born into it. You follow your team then through every sport. Doesn't matter if basketball, football or something else.
It's part of your life.

I went to several big derbies in Europe (Ajax-Feijenoord, Partizan Belgrade-Red Star, Sporting Lisbon-Benfica) and it's 100% safe. People bring their families to the match.
Ultra's in Europe don't go on the field to harass players. Despite you think this is insane, there are rules among fans. I am a woman and feel totally fine during matches.
The passion and love for your club and city is something Americans will never understand.
09:20 You say Fans are there to support. There is a Difference between a Supporter and a Fan. A Supporter does support. Supporter comes from Supporting there are no Feelings and no Passion. Fan means Fanatic. You live for the Club and you die for the Club.
It’s actually supporters, ultras and hooligans supporters are the casuals, ultras are the hardcore fans with pyro, choreography etc. and hooligans are there for the fights.
Of course they're all supporters, but I think you get what I'm trying to say. I've been going to games in the stadium for a little over 40 years and, in my experience, it's not that easy to distinguish between ultras and hooligans. Maybe there are clubs where these two groups are clearly separated. In my experience, it's always a mix. but hey, as your name says it's@@justmyopinion7807
@@justmyopinion7807 no. ultras is the name originated in italy, but it's accepted in general in almost entire europe, for the fans that are hardcore in every way including fights. hooligans is the name only used in england for the same thing, but it's have been used more by the police and media

Fans don't beat players, its extremely rare.
There's nothing wrong with going down, its staying down thats wrong (team).
There are different sections in the stadium, the U fans are in one section, families are in a different section of the stadium, U's wouldn't touch families (even from another team).
Well when Schalke 04 relegatet to the 2. Bundesliga in Germany the Ultras waited at the players car chased them and beat them up. They even waited ag the house of one player and one was chased by car on the autobahn until police stopped it. What i saw often in germany was that the players didnt go close to the ultras after derby losses becausw after this the fans often are very angry maybe the players are scared in that moment i dont know. But you are right it doesnt happen often that they get beat up.

One thing must be understand clearly , the suporters are the people from that city or town , they have personal rivalries with other cities towns and regions.
And doesnt matter what sport it is they will support their club and athletes from football to basketball to hocky etc . Some rivalries are decades old others hundreds and some cases 1000 year old . Europe has a huge history of city states , and regions that have been rivals for years and years even at war for decades over the past 2000 years now they are part of one nation and that rivalry still exist . Your city your people your family .
This is what europe is , a mix of different cultures and rivalries they dont take crap from others they fight for their cities and country . Europe has been a extremly violent and brutal place for the past 2000 years , and for the past 80 years its been at peace and if football or other sports are an outlet for emotions so be it , rather have a few fights than have a global war .

See for you as an citizens of USA it may look disrespectfull but thats as far from true as it can be. Teams here love those hardcore fans annd fans love their local teams, we support one another, its very symbiotic relationship between team fans and stadium, stadium needs the team to win so they allow us to cheer and set it even on "fire" to encourage the team, imagine player hearing all that cheering while you play, the feeling is immense. And to not make things boring whats a saturday afternoon without proper fistfight yes. It puzzles me everytime when i hear NAmericans saying that something makes them uncomfortable or claustrofobic and things like that, those type of people are almost nonexistent here where i live in Poland, as would Uncle Roger said "Why so weak?"

.....Americans........ Ultras are some of the most respected and proud fans in sport, and also they are not allowed by their code to use weapon. That sign you seen with knife crossed over is saying "only pussies stab" because they do not use it. And no football, basketball, handball, volleyball..... and all other sports are not war..... it is much more important then that....
You need to understand where all of this is coming from, it's rivalries of centuries, to the point where they truly hate each other, and sometime people do get killed in confronts between supporters, football is a religion in Europe, our club is above anything else in our life. I do understand that from an outsidet that doesn't understand the culture, this may look like insane, but this is why football in Europe is considered the best in the world. BENFICA ❤❤🦅

1st you need to understand how much ultras are involved in politics and govermant awareness in european countrys, the culture of sport is way older and deeper than any other sports in the world, every club represent town or city or country they from, it goes back 90+ years for most of these clubs, its way more than sport
In Europe it represents cities, cultures, people.
Its 3 - 200 year old clubs representing those places. Kids grow up with loving those clubs. Getting inspired by them, by people growing up in the same neighborhood as them and now being world stars!!!
In America it all comes down to what college did you play for, can you pay your education! The jersey doesn't matter, only thing that matters is, if you being rich! No loyalty to community, no loyalty to fans! You are all individualists.

Let me explain what’s the difference for the rest of Europe. Ultras are responcable for the support in the stadium. Chanting, drums, flags, tifos, pyro and all that organication. The main goal is to support the club in every way possible. The roots of it comes from Italy.
Hooliganis are more interested in the action around the game. Confrontation with other hooliganis or the police. They can have a good time even the team lost when they had a great fight. The origin is England.
Ultras: support but fights if it comes to it

For example I am a ultra and support my team with everything but would not looking for fights and have friends in the stadium which a quiet there but always looking for opportunities to fight.
You would be very safe if you were wearing the right colours. Race isn't an issue, just the team you support.

In most cities there is one team in one city, in a certain way it is the honor of the city or city district. As for the police, the point is that, mainly in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the police functioned, mainly during the communist era, as a repressive unit that arrested not only criminals, but also people who thought against the regime. They then gathered in stadiums, around their clubs, and the police did not allow themselves to intervene there.
