Oh yeah Walrus, Blind Willie is the greatest!! The guy was an absolute master!! It would take me years to learn to play this song properly. And it still wouldn’t sound close. Thank you for watching! Cheers!!!
I did not know you played! That is such a moving song, there is so much in there without ever having say anything. I really liked your version. A tip of the hat to you my friend.
Yes Elliott, the original tune is an absolute stunner!! The most moving piece of music I’ve ever heard. Say, not to promote my channel, but check out my last video, ‘An Anazing Grail’. I found a 45 you would really appreciate. You can fast forward to the end, I play the record. It’s right up your alley. Thank you for watching and for the kind words! Cheers, Jon
Jon, I was really impressed by your slide parts. Yeah, it's a tricky tune with a mix of Gospel, hummed vocals and slide, not a typical Blues song in the way it was put together. Thanks!
Thanks Michael! Still learning slide and the open D tuning. The original is such an amazing tune. I’ll never be able to properly play it, but at least now I can understand what he did. Dark Was the Night always sounded so otherworldly to my ears. Hope you’re doing well! Cheers!!
Thank you Mark! Yeah, I’m trying to learn the open D (E) tuning. Still pretty new to me. I’m still buzzing out on the slide, I think I need to switch to heavier strings and raise the action to get it cleaner sounding. But I’m having fun. Cheers!!
Bravo, Jon. Looks and sounds great. You should consider writing some songs in this style (And maybe you do). I’m not a big blues fan; if you consider the blues Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray. But I love the sound of early delta and folk blues. When country and blues and and gospel all got together. It was the music of the people. Just regular people singing and playing without a thought about any commercial aspects. That’s the purest form of art. IMO. Thank you for sharing this with us. Be well. Shawn
Thank you Shawn! I’m a big fan of the older blues styles. Not so much of the guitar solo blues. But there’s good music in all genres if you look. And yes the music of the people or the music from the kids are my favorite types of musics!! Cheers!
It always blew my mind How many Blind Blues players there were. I have a hard time playing guitar as it is. This might motivate me to pull the trigger on a new Acoustic I`ve been wanting. Anyway Quality entertainment as always my man
Edd, it makes perfect sense why there were so many blind musicians. It was one of the only ways the blind could make money back then. Playing music or working in a church or school. Grab the guitar or fix up a beater you already have. A little picking is good for our old age! Cheers and thank you!
Hi Ed, thank you for watching. No the guitar is not set up for slide at all. You can hear my notes buzzing out a bunch of times. I need to get thicker gauge strings (especially the high E) and raise the action a little. And a lot more practice!! Haha! Have a great week!! Cheers!
This is what’s good with the VC. ✌️
100% ✌
Thanks Frank!!

That is some great Monday music, I was just getting in to it and it ended. Put out a 7".

Blind Willie Johnson is the greatest bluesman of all time! Great cover Jon, I really enjoyed it!

Hi Jon, Love that! Is this guitar set up higher for slide or is it normal action?
Hi Ed, thank you for watching. No the guitar is not set up for slide at all. You can hear my notes buzzing out a bunch of times. I need to get thicker gauge strings (especially the high E) and raise the action a little. And a lot more practice!! Haha!
