  • My tastes for slow, thirsty, comfy cars have been well and truly satisfied with my latest purchase - one of the very few UK RHD Chevy Blazers, complete with a brilliantly beige interior, low mileage, and so far, it's pretty well behaved.
Standby, no doubt, for a nightmare of sourcing parts, using a lot of gas and getting places a lot slower than you'd expect from a 4.3

In the US, this was also released as a GMC jimmy, GMC envoy and Chevy S10 Sonoma. And as an american, i LOVE your american accent! it's quite accurate. next time u review an american car, i need you to do it with our accent.
    IM OFF TO WALMART 😆😆😆😆

Your Blazer has Oldsmobile Bravada parts from the factory. The gauges, the radio, the climate control are from Oldsmobile Bravada of the same era. The American Blazer had the gearshift on the steering column. Thank you for sharing.

Someone in my uncles apartment block has one of these, RHD, just outside London in black with cloth interior. It's slowly rotting away parked outside and hasn't been driven for ages but there's no visible rust on the chassis (plenty on wheel arches though). Very tempted to start a conversation with the dude who owns it because apparently the parking is expensive as hell in that area and I don't want to see it scrapped...

I love the S-10s and S-10 Blazers, that 4.3 while under powered and drinks like a V8, it'll last forever. Through if I wasn't in the US where every auto parts store carries half of the truck I probably wouldn't buy one! Also keep an eye on the lower intake manifold gasket, they have a bad habit of leaking.

Praise be! New LMC content on a car I've always fancied from afar, in the genre of "weird RHD Yank more people should have bought", along with 70s AMCs, Cadillac STS etc. Had a really hard time not at least test driving a green Blazer in full Hamptons spec a couple of years back,. Many virtual pints if you manage to source a RHD Lincoln LS from the single import run!

Oh you're a bad influence - I had no idea about the LS! Certainly got a taste for the Yank stuff now, I'll have to investigate this one further....

I bought a 2000 model RHD Blazer when it was 3 years old & kept it until late 2015. I got to know their faults very quickly & also worked on several others for various people. The flashing 4wd switch is a common problem & is more often than not just a fault in the switch itself rather than a transmission problem. The switch is the same one used in the Tahoe/Suburban/Silverado & is easily & cheaply available as a pattern part from Dorman. Also these vehicles were fitted with a secondary immobiliser when they arrived in the UK - these were notoriously unreliable - I had mine removed which just left the factory immobiliser in place & had no further problems. If you have the 5 digit immobiliser override code (printed on a red card) then look after it as you will need this to get the vehicle started in the event of failure of the fobs. This code can also be used to program additional fobs if needed. Apart from being a little heavy on suspension components they are good reliable vehicles if they are well maintained. One other thing to remember is that a lot of the RHD-specific parts are now obsolete. Keep the steering pitman arm well greased as these are very difficult to get hold of if they need replacing. If there's anything else you need to know please feel free to ask as i'd be happy to help. As a matter of interest GM only sold just over 700 RHD Blazers in the UK. Most of the RHD ones they produced were sold in Japan.

Thank you! Such excellent advice, especially re the immobiliser which does like to have a wobble every now and then after I've connected the battery again. I'll be in touch for sure.

Ah, a fish out of water! I am NOT an SUV guy, but I did have a Blazer of similar vintage here in the USA primarily for Winter use. This example has a significantly more luxurious and attractive interior. That tan with the black dash complimented by the blue exterior is very nice. The downside was that it was annoyingly slow and would have expected better from such a large displacement, it took corners like a drunken sailor, and its fuel consumption gave that drunken sailor a run for his bar tab....BUT it was a damn durable vehicle, and in off-road terrain and better, deep snow, it was like the vehicle asked other cars, "What's the delay?" The name "Blazer" was perfect to convey its ability to cut through "uncivilized" conditions. And oddly enough, yes, that engine sound / exhaust note is very memorable, and was beautiful to listen to each start up! Incidentally, I LOVE Belfast! A vibrant lovely city with the kindest most generous people consistently to this stranger.....

Indicators on the right would be something they've actively done - I'd expect them on the left in a US car. A lot of RHD markets tend to have indicators on the right - eg. Japan, Australia. This wasn't sold in Australia - I'm curious which other RHD markets it ended up in.
