Absolutely agree, engineered by the great Alan parson, Al Stewart wasn't crazy about Parson adding the saxophone but agreed to it and boy so glad it was added it's strong but clear sax sounding as if it's a person talking, strong but clear and gentle and so much happening, instrument wise, but all blending just right without drowning out all the instrument sounds while blending in with Al Stewarts magnificent smooth vocals, absolutely still stunning after all these years and just takes you away into a relaxing state, I try but just can't get today's music to do this for me

@@judyseeley5284- Absolutely I agree! The sax is a perfect addition. I have a thing for bass guitar, which is easy to overlook with so much stellar instrumentation going on, but the bass part in this song is wonderful. Piano, guitar, strings, synth (I think), and yes bass, combine beautifully. I’m probably leaving out some instruments, the arrangement is so lush! 🎶 🎹 🎸🎻🎷🎶

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
    Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
    Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat
She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
    Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
    The year of the cat
While she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
    The year of the cat
Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the newborn day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

Another excellent Al Stewart song from 1978 is “Palace Of Versailles”, and there is very well made video for it on RUclips. The song is about the French Revolution and Al Stewart is a master lyricist.

The VERY long, VERY HOT summer of 76 (in the UK) when it didn't rain for 4 months. This song encapsulates that feeling perfectly. Days down the lido, everyone with a radio of some kind. Great summer to be young.

The soundtrack to my years at University, over forty years ago. This album, and the one before, were rarely off the turntable
And he's still touring. I'll be seeing him for the fifth time in October, at the Cadogan Hall In London. It's always such a special moment when those first piano notes start playing. And Al's voice has barely changed over the years.
    Five to try:
    Time Passages
The Palace of Versailles (worth knowing a bit about the French Revolution first)
    Murmansk Run/Ellis Island
    Apple Cider Reconstitution
    Antarctica

This takes me back to about 76, late Autumn with Summer in SoCal struggling to hang on. Under the patio overhang, sipping Sangria from an iced up big glass pitcher listening to songs of soft rock like this with close friends. Recent University grads, starting out our careers and musing on our individual futures. The early evenings then still had warm breezes scented with blooms, soft as a mother's kiss. Great memories brought back instantly with the opening piano chords.
