Thank for the helpful Video. First I must create a profile. Then defining the access right on the profile I created. Next I assign the profile to a user. The user can access the objects through the profile they are assigned. Permission Set and Permission Set Group are extensible function on Profiles. They are optional.
What is the rationale behind layering permission sets/permission set groups to extend the default access for a user with a given profile, rather than cloning the existing profile and adding the desired additional permissions to it? I expect either way you have to configure the permissions (whether via permission set or via new profile) and then assign either one to the relevant users, so what is the difference in preference of using one rather than the other?
