    Man I gotta say, I learn more S#*% from sitting through 20 minutes of any one of your amazing videos, than sitting for hours sifting through the other RUclips vids I watch, and the best part is this, you speak my language, its straight from the hip - in plain English, you never talk down to those who watch your vids, and I just love watching your videos for that. Thanks man, happy new year.

    Kudos to this cross x pollination in your feed... Rilly fresh, creative, generous. I'd been using the fp tone control similarly; and will try the stills blur tip too.

    Cinematographer Mark Irwin told us in a workshop to practice street photography to enhance our cinematography. Great video💯

    Photographer here. I’ve learned so much more about making images from cinematographers than other photographers. Please talk me down from this ledge I’m on from buying a Red Komodo. I take back part of what I saiid: the people involved in hardcore printing, lens design, and negative development have taught me a shit ton. Photography RUclips is a cringe fest. If digital is your jam, checkout the Max Max monochrome conversions. If you want your mind blown and mess around with film checkout pyrocat developers. It’s a rabbit hole . Lastly, it would be really interesting to hear your opinion on the Kipon Baveyes medium format focal reducers. Kiss your Christmas money bye bye. 😅

    I shot Nikon film cameras before getting into video. Did some professional photo work too but I got tired of weddings. Growing up as a musician, I eventually realized combining images and sound/music can completely control emotion. since then I have gone to film school and transitioned out of stills and into video. My favorite part of Film production is working with a team. In photography, IMO, too much is done solo and it's harder for me to be excited and stay motivated alone.

    SIGMA GANG. Also I love your choice of Canon lens in the beginning, I picked out an old 1962 Canon LTM f/2 35mm for myself on Christmas. Although I found put it might be irradiated with Thorium used for the lens coating, so I might have to part with it :(

    Thank you for another interesting video. Cool that you started out as an actor! Yes, the Canon thread mount lens are very nice to use both for their images and their beautiful construction, and are well priced for their quality. The 50mm f1.2, 1.4 and 1.8's are all very nice I think. It's interesting to note that Zack Snyder adapted them for his recent film "Army of the Dead."

    Awesome video, I like you take on street photography.
    Using vintage lenses for street photography is something that I love to do. I’m currently using an XT-1 + a 24 or 28, I wish it was FF so I could get that wider FOV.

    Zone focusing is correct😂

    I'm *pretty* sure it's always been zone focusing maybe somebody was recalling a different zone-something.
    Really cool that you found your way to my own hobby. If you ever get deeper into it I recommend the Fuji x70, like a digital Winogrand setup 28mm equiv. with full manual control and a tilt screen that lets you "shoot from the hip". Gary would hate there's no viewfinder though.

      Justin's earlier Hollywood street shoot vid shows that he makes use of the modular Sigma EVF There are as well shoe mount Canon viewfinders that accompanied the 28mm lens featured in this video.

    The rolling shutter on that camera is awful.
    Also. I feel dumb. Been behind a camera for over 20 years. Had no clue about the practical application of "range" focusing.

      there are different names for it..

    • @weisserth
      @weisserth 2 года назад +1

      It's called zone focusing. Range focusing is not a thing. It's ALWAYS been zone focusing. No relevant work of photography literature calls it anything other than zone focusing. Ansel Adams himself describes it as zone focusing.

    • @gioponti6359
      @gioponti6359 2 года назад

      @@weisserth - “hyperfocal distance” - a term that also wikipedia has an article about (to my surprise..).

    12:53 Sorry, range focusing is not a thing. It's zone focusing. Anyone telling you differently is BS-ing you.
    Want evidence? Grab a copy of Ansel Adams' "The Camera", in chapter 8, Hand-Held Cameras Adams himself describes "zone focusing", I am quoting from his book here: "A related technique is zone focusing (not to be confused with the Zone System, which relates to exposure and is fully discussed in Book 2). This involves pre-focusing so that all subjects..." yada yada yada.
    You won't find a reference to "range focusing" in any of Adam's three book series. His book (1) "The Camera" was first published in 1980.
    You're welcome.
