    Thanks for the tutorial! When that is said, I hope there will be implemented a better solution to this as the whole process is extremely convoluted the way it works now. I get that it probably is engineer-friendly, but it is quite far from being user friendly. To provide a suggestion; a Mesh/3D Object pool would have been a better way to handle it. You import meshes/objects to the pool as you'd import images etc. With a syntax of assign object to view, it should conform more to expected practice in the wider MA ecosystem, and be a lot more user friendly.

    OMG you just love to complicate simple things...
    I want to import a tras and it is as complicated as building a device!

      Only 75 clicks needed to import a single model.

    i am trying this in Version 2.1.1.5 and it does not seem to work. I just get a solid Block in the Dimensions of the mesh.
    One thing i noticed is that after i create a new fixture type none of the DMX modes are created. Does this maybe have something todo with it?

      Hey😊, thanks for your question. Think we should have a more detailed look at that. Could you send a mail to your local MA support? Thats the most efficient way, we can help. Here you can get an overview of our local distributors: www.malighting.com/company/ma-worldwide/global-presence/

    How do I get user produced .3ds files to show up for import? My CAD system (AutoCAD) can export in .3ds, but when I follow your tutorial, nothing is recognized. I feel like I'm missing a step somewhere, but people on other forums on GMA3 have said that it's very difficult to do and requires a lot of muddling around. It would make my life a whole lot easier as I already have a full model to import. Otherwise I'll be importing, sizing, locating, and angling each individual surface. Is there something to do with the resolution of curved surfaces or solids or something? What am I missing?
    Thanks!

      Hi Paul, normally a good recommendation is to reduce the vertices in your 3D model. But this sounds like we should have a detailed look at that. So please get in contact with your local distributor or us directly via help@malighting.com.

      @@MALightingInt Got it figured out with the help of Ryan at ACT Entertainment through MA Lighting. The solution was VERY different than what was explained in the video. I was able to drop my .3ds file into the folder containing some of GMA3's preloaded .3ds files, but this was located within a hidden folder and could be confusing as there were multiple redundant meshes folders in different locations. If the wrong folder were chosen, nothing would show up in GMA3. Furthermore, placing the file in the meshes folder via the USB drive results in the same problem as before. GMA3 just doesn't see it. The file path that saw successful import of my own .3ds was as follows: Windows (C:)/ProgramData/MALightingTechnology/gma3_1.5.2/shared/lib_fixture_types/meshes

    Hi - Insert is greyed out under the Models tab for me. what am i missing pls? Got it - I needed to insert a new object line first

    • @MALightingInt

      Hi Jason, yes you are right - you have to enable Insert new Object first. Sometimes you just want to check or adjust your things in the fixture. Then you get a better overview without new object lines.

    In what soft was created model of table with 3ds extension? And which extensions of 3D models are acceptable?

    • @MALightingInt
      @MALightingInt  4 года назад

      The table was originally created in Cinema 4D. But in general many 3D drawing applications can export a file in 3ds.
      Currently grandMA3 only supports 3ds files.

    Any fix for Lighting Clipping though imported 3ds files?

      Hi Josh, thanks a lot for your request. Could you maybe get in contact with our support and specify your question a bit more? What are you planning to do and what would you expect with an import of your 3ds file?

    best part was to find out Blender Y/Z is swap in Ma. Why we don't have a general understanding of XYZ. :D

    • @MALightingInt
      @MALightingInt  2 года назад +1

      You are right, that is a challenge sometimes. Unfortunately many different applications have many different ways to interpret xyz.

      @@MALightingInt a real question: is there a way to have texture in MA3D? I could not work it out.

    • @MALightingInt
      @MALightingInt  2 года назад

      Yes in general this is possible. Normally textures are automatically imported with the materials. But to check what is going wrong in your example, it would be good if you can reach out to your local support. They are happy to help you with that.

    What I'm trying to do is insert a .pdf plan to work on it. Do you know if is it possible?

    • @MALightingInt
      @MALightingInt  3 года назад

      In general you can add a pdf as an image to a layout view. So you can import this image in the image pool and use it as an appearance in your layout.
      This is not possible in the 3D window, so you can not import a pdf instead of a 3ds file. The reason why you do not see the "New Model" row could be that the button "New Object line" at the bottom right corner is disabled. Can you check this?
