Outdoor cats kill BILLIONS of birds annually in the US. I wonder if Shawn cares that they’re not part of the natural ecosystem either - just like the mice he “humanely dispatched”.
Fine product in theory, but the metal lid is probably heavier than the plastic versions or the paper plate, so inertia probably gives more warning in this case. I'll stick with the Flip N Slide he tested awhile back, a trap that is absolutely boring because ALL it does is catch mice: NONE escape once they climb to the lid. It is one I bought specifically for that rarest of attributes: "Made in the USA".
It looks like the metallic clang of the trap resetting scared the others away. I wonder if you'd have more luck if you put a felt furniture pad under it so it doesn't clang when it resets?
I think you're saying that the magnet would let the mouse get farther over the balance point, and when it breaks loose, the lid will flip at a higher speed?
This is exactly right. In my experiments of making a flipping mouse trap like this, when the plate begins to tilt, many of the mice feel that and escape back. When a magnet is added then they have to go further out before the magnet suddenly releases and they don't get the tilt warning that lets them escape.
Seems like you could invent something similar by using the plastic lids that come with 5-gallon buckets. Kind of a hybrid between your paper plate and this. Also, the possibility of using a small magnet to allow the mouse to walk the lid to a point and then dump seems like it would improve this design. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it's stuck to peanut butter. If you glued it down for real it would eventually lose it's smell and no longer attract. The bait needs to stay fresh.
Possibly adding a tiny amount of silicone to the back edge of this, just enough to give it a tiny amount of lip grip before popping a sudden flip would help… maybe
On these various bucket traps, I would fasten clothes pins All Along The Edge so that the mouse or rat doesn't walk around on the edge and eat the bait.
This seems to work well, but, seems like a lot of extra work. You have to start with drills to attach the ramp. I don't remember any of your other recommended traps required to do that. I can't see myself buying this one. Just speaking for myself, though, as I don't have experience with drills and such.
I don't like that you must take the whole bucket lid and ladder to dispose of the contents, seems a bit cumbersome to me. Thank you for another super informative video Shawn xx Jean from Scotland.
Pet mouse #1 is turning into a ham, mugging for the camera. I guess the mice are not SAG/AFTRA members, unless this video was recorded before the strike
Definitely better then the original rinne trap, it works but the plastic is to flimsy and it got warped during this summer. ( not in sun light) maybe 87 degrees max. I just tossed it today. I’ll give this one a try.
I had trouble w squirrels smelling and going after the bait. One got stuck in the bucket and chewed on the plastic lid until he made a hole big enough to escape. Will try this one too
I was just thinking of that. Use earth magnets or a really small neodymium. The trap is 20 and made of metal. It'll keep forever if its maintain occasionally.
❤ This was good ,wish you listed the best in the notes, comment. Something about a hunt , trapping is exciting to me . I have something eating bugs under an outside light that leaving poop . It’s not settling off the blink camera so it’s a mystery. 😊😊😮
Love your videos! Saw a new commercial for "Rodent Away" Have you tried this yet? If not I suspect it could be interesting. There's a 6 month money back trial too!
Shawn, why steel? It rusts after rain and moisture overnights? Is it thermal electric coated treated paint? If not, paint will flake off and RUST!!! Still waiting for a reliable mouse trap!
What would happen if a light coating of vegetable oil was placed on the top of the trap? I'm guessing that the mice would slide to the tipping point quicker.
I've had great luck making traps based on your videos. I love your information, your humanity, and the quality of your content. I'm going to get your trap just to show support, even though I've had awesome success already thanks to you.
I tried using peanut butter to catch the mice in our house and they didn't like it. Guess the mice in Australia also have a different preference for food too lol

It's RATS. Juvenile to adults..RATS.
I like how pet mouses already accepted their fate and demostrated the trap without second thought
That might change if they decide to unionize !
same 😂😂
He is a well paid actor but he look at the camara he need more training
He made sure the audience was in their seats before he started the performance.
It's probably because they know they're safe, if I had to guess!
Your neighborhood domestic cat! Oh my. Laughed at one of your pet mice looking right at the camera! Like oh, Shawn's using us to demonstrate again.
Wouldn’t call it part of the natural ecosystem either…
That was interesting since the feral cats living in the area don't seem to find carrion particularly appealing.
I remember a time when Shawn was catching 10 mice at a time. Is he actually running out of mice to catch?!
He's switched off of kill traps, could be that the sound of fellow mice warns the others to stay away.
It seems like he doesn't leave the traps out over multiple days anymore.
Lol always nice seeing cats being opportunistic
Outdoor cats kill BILLIONS of birds annually in the US. I wonder if Shawn cares that they’re not part of the natural ecosystem either - just like the mice he “humanely dispatched”.
I bet that ended up in a neighbor's living room somewhere as a present... probably grossing out everyone.
@@Dosbomber i thought this same thing lol! bet it expected a treat after too! lol my cats always bring me mice and they always want a reward
I always reward the neighbours cat if I see it’s caught a mouse. Because she’s so efficient, I don’t see any near the shed now🐈
The early bird gets the worm...
But, the LAZY cat grabs BOTH mice...
Oiling or waxing the “lid” may also help with higher catch rate as well as help keep it from debris

The thirteen most terrifying words in the English language are, "Now, what we caught are a non-native invasive species called a house mouse."
It looks like the metallic clang of the trap resetting scared the others away. I wonder if you'd have more luck if you put a felt furniture pad under it so it doesn't clang when it resets?
Electrical tape or weatherstripping foam on the clanging rim. Simple upgrade.
I wonder if adding a small magnet would improve this trap, either on top of the tipping part or underneath the stationary part.
I think you're saying that the magnet would let the mouse get farther over the balance point, and when it breaks loose, the lid will flip at a higher speed?
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 ya I've thought the same thing. It also needs a little rubber bumper to stop the clank sound.

Cat looked at the camera like "This can't be this easy....Ok, DEUCES"
Just found some mice in my backyard hiding in my rosemary plants. I’ll give this a go.
Rip house mouses ☠️🙏🏻
I see Shawn, I click
Are you sure it's not the mouse or trap in the thumbnail? 🤔
add 6 inches WATER as the last thing you want is INTELLIGENT MICE who will not go near a trap after they were let out
That is a good trap. Thanks Shawn. I love the end when you video the animals that come to get the mice you catch. 👍

The cat picking up the kill looks both ways as in disbelief that the catch was that easy.
So are you gluing down the bait to prevent it from falling with the mice? Maybe using peanut butter as “glue”?
I think it's the peanut butter.
Yes, it's stuck to peanut butter.
If you glued it down for real it would eventually lose it's smell and no longer attract. The bait needs to stay fresh.
Interesting! I haven't seen that siamese cat before!
Possibly adding a tiny amount of silicone to the back edge of this, just enough to give it a tiny amount of lip grip before popping a sudden flip would help… maybe
Somebody’s residence got a house mouse surprise
It.seems to work pretty well 👍
Since it's metal, what if you sprayed the top with a light grease or some other similar substance to make it a lot slippier.
will it work for rats?
Cat: "I am Siamese, if you please..."
if you burry it would it work on moles?
Do you think this would work with rats? Especially with about 10 or 12 in of water in the bucket?
On these various bucket traps, I would fasten clothes pins All Along The Edge so that the mouse or rat doesn't walk around on the edge and eat the bait.
I wonder how this would do next to a RinneTraps Flip N Slide. I love my Flip N Slide not from Amazon.
Hi, your enthusiasm is infectious keep up the good work, Shawn!
Nice to see a cat get the snack for a change! 😸
Kitty needed a easy catch
This seems to work well, but, seems like a lot of extra work.

I can't see myself buying this one.
Just speaking for myself, though, as I don't have experience with drills and such.
It needs a little refrigerator magnet to keep it closed steadily until there's enough force to pop open.
Seems to need a little work on the tipping point, the clampy things are at two different angle, maybe they need to be uniform to help with the tip.
Hi,Thank you for your videos does this work on ground moles? Teresa
I would like to see Shawn Woods' full pet mouse collection and cages. Anyone else?
Yes, sweet piano at the end of the video is quite relaxing
The issue with this design is the mass of the moving plate. Lighter is better, particularly when the movement is generated by the weight of a mouse.
I find it odd this comes with a drill bit since who has a drill but no drill bits?🤔
With the solid design on the not trap side could this lid keep rats from escaping?
I don't like that you must take the whole bucket lid and ladder to dispose of the contents, seems a bit cumbersome to me.
Thank you for another super informative video Shawn xx Jean from Scotland.
Thanks for sharing your reviews and keep them coming please.
I'd like to see it seal properly so it works as a bin lid, too.
Shawn's barn does not have as many mice as it used to. Need another shipment!
Awesome thanks great work
Whats stopping the mouse from walking the rim and eating from it?

Little rubber bumper would be good so it resets it don't clunk.
Where do I find this particular lid
This one would keep the rats from jumping out like the other bucket dunk traps. Looks like a solid build.
Have you ever tagged your released deer mice to see if they come back to your barn?
Where is the paper plate video? What did I miss?
Neither the Amazon link nor the manufacturer link take us to this lid anymore. They go to different lids.
What did you use for baits?
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video
Who else is watching shawn on their monday off?👨🏾🔧
I've had Mondays off since 2011 :D

Hope everyone has a very Happy, Healthy Holiday weekend!
As always Shawn, gloves Shawn, gloves. Protect yourself and your family.b
And an athletic supporter too, Shawn.😮
I'll have to put getting one of those, on my "bucket list"...
You should try modifying this trap with a magnet to make it stay more firm until they are too far out on it.
I was just thinking of that. Use earth magnets or a really small neodymium. The trap is 20 and made of metal. It'll keep forever if its maintain occasionally.

Shawn, is is more correct to say that this is a manufactured trap. There is nothing pre-manufactured about this trap.
You take them out and after they come back 😂😂
I like a story with a happy ending.
Shawn, why steel? It rusts after rain and moisture overnights? Is it thermal electric coated treated paint? If not, paint will flake off and RUST!!! Still waiting for a reliable mouse trap!
How do you "despatch them humanely?"
I like the video and music again at the end
The skunk, wanting to reduce his carbon emissions, is trying to work out where Shawn releases the native mice😂
It looked too heavy and slow to tip so I'm not surprised a lot of mice escaped falling in.
Cat got em
What would happen if a light coating of vegetable oil was placed on the top of the trap? I'm guessing that the mice would slide to the tipping point quicker.
That mouse ended up a gift to the cat owner(neighbour)
We haven't been to the dam in awhile
Good work Crawdaddy.
I've been contemplating it for a few weeks.
Would this work against rats?
If nothing else, the Boise will alert you to captured mice. Clang. Clang.

I hope you will see this. I love your videos and I don't know why I hate house mice. Have them at my old j lob
funny how you get to decide who lives and who not.
No, what about the Norwegian rat?
Mouse No 3 clearly has some Matrix vibes going on.
However, I do appreciate the work.
So,
Thank You for this, and for all the work you do.
I don't think that cat is part of the native wildlife either.
Yeah really. Outdoor cats kill BILLIONS of birds annually in the US.

You have to use Vegemite, obviously.

Made in China. The other one you recommend, rinnetraps flip in slide, is usa made and has worked flawless for me.
Only good mouse is a dead mouse.
second night he caught the same two mice he caught the night before
His voice is soothing 😌
Those pet mice have been trained (jk).
I didnt realise cats ate carrion.
Your mice simply know the drill :D
Excellent
Where is the "house mouse" natural ecosystem? Could you take them back there? Inquiring minds want to know.
You paying to ship them back to Eurasia?
