Wow Mike, I think this is one of the best videos I've seen this week! Loving the light and your location and lots of keepers! You've given me ideas to look for while I'm out shooting. Thank you!
Love this video Mike I need to get out to the coast soon probably Mersea Island about an hour's drive away. I love the simple style of photography just great colours and perfect use of the surroundings 👍
I have a x100t and the focus hunting and the flimsy shutter makes it less enjoyable. I held the XE4 but the shutter felt so crisp and snappy; the autofocus was also great. However, I'm looking for a minimal camera (fixed lens is fine), so my question is, how is the x100v compared to x100t (esp on autofocus and the shutter)
Hmmm...the X100 series all have great leaf shutters; you might be mistaking "quiet" for "flimsy." Anyway, I've had both, and I'd say the X-E4 is about as minimal as it gets- just buy one lens for it and you'll still be under the price of an X100V (the 27mm 2.8 is very small). It doesn't feel as well built and you'll lose the leaf shutter (and optical viewfinder), but you'll get the newer sensor and processor. Performance should be identical.
(Performance is the same between the X100V and X-E4, I mean. Same sensor, same processor, same AF, etc. The X100V gets you the leaf shutter, the optical viewfinder, and the f/2 lens that's about the same size as the f/2.8 on the X-E4.)
Great video Mike, and another of one of my favourite morning dog walks. Almost like a POV of myself 😂. Some great shots, but like you say, simply enjoying the process 👍
I’m curious as to why you are using such high shutter speeds and as a result high iso for still subjects, wouldn’t it be preferable to use lower iso to reduce noise since the subjects are stationary and don’t need high shutter speeds?
Amazing! I have one question for you, a lot of the photos were taken with ISO at 640 but then you had to pull the velocity high, like 3600 or maybe 2000, it depends on the photo. Why? You could use 100 ISO and lower velocity like 500, it would work. Can you explain? like does it bring another vibe to the photo? color? grain? Im just super curious and i want to try it.
My Dynamic Range is set to DR400 so I believe the minimum is 640 iso. There's no real difference of noise up to even 800 so I like having the details in the shadows when using the jpegs. These are actually all raw files that I edited anyway so it makes no difference, but on occasion I like to just use and share JPEGS from this camera, so the extra DR is nice. Plus is all shot in aperture priority so I don't even know what ISO is being chosen, I just pick f4 or f5.6 then point and shoot.
I was just as intrigued when I saw the file info. I always shoot aperture priority - so the that's whatever the camera decided. But I also don't really like low ISO numbers. Something about iso 100 loses Dynamic Range and it feels like there is too much contrast. Just lifting the iso to at least 400 gives a better look IMO.
@@RolandKaufmann No of course not. But the noise at 640 iso isn't noticeable at all. Combine that will a little grain which I love to add and I get that nostalgic feel to the images as well.
All shots are incredible! I still can't react to that quality with my x100v, sometimes I have my hands down and a little hope that it's not me bad but my camera is broken :D Need more practice

@@hmuz8388 that’s exactly it! I didn’t even think about DR at 400. ISO between 200 and even 800 makes no difference with these sensors. It still looks great.
Such wonderful colors. The music is perfect for the images. Good job, and thanks. I think I will revisit this video.
Thank you David! I really appreciate this comment 👊🏻
Beautiful
Love this style of video Mike
would love for you to make a video about why 640 iso seems to be such a sweet spot for you and the time of day youre shooting!
This series is everything to me. Gets better every time

amazing video man!

Cool shots Mike - where did you film this?
I’m curious as to why you are using such high shutter speeds and as a result high iso for still subjects, wouldn’t it be preferable to use lower iso to reduce noise since the subjects are stationary and don’t need high shutter speeds?
Yes..........
Curious why you chose ISO 640 for these shots?
My Dynamic Range is set to 400 so the minimum iso is 640

@@MikeChudley Thank You! I got it now
@@MikeChudley I don’t know if I should invest on a X100V or my canon gear now😅 that camera is amazing
Nice images! One question, why are you shooting such fast shutter/high iso for still photography?
I was just as intrigued when I saw the file info. I always shoot aperture priority - so the that's whatever the camera decided. But I also don't really like low ISO numbers. Something about iso 100 loses Dynamic Range and it feels like there is too much contrast. Just lifting the iso to at least 400 gives a better look IMO.
@@MikeChudley I guess it depends on the camera. I’m more worried about noise than dynamic range. Never had an issue raising shadows in LR.
@@RolandKaufmann No of course not. But the noise at 640 iso isn't noticeable at all. Combine that will a little grain which I love to add and I get that nostalgic feel to the images as well.

Why ISO 640 and high shutter speeds for static subjects?

@@MikeChudley if your DR is at 400% (DR400) then the minimum ISO is 640, maybe that’s why.
