@@DRDCC Thanks for the reply! I entered the DCC Museum and I found service hints from the manuals that suggested to see the digital board. Recapping all these boards is not a good idea because I may end up nowhere if it is probably the head faulty. Also I entered the service mode and I checked every module and all seemed ok
I bought this exact same deck from a thrift store for ~20€, seemed too cheap from the start😂 It has some serious issues: 1- I insert an analog cassette, it keeps switching from analog to DCC on it’s own. It has a mind of it’s own, from analog to dcc and from dcc to analog over and over again 2- There is no left channel playback(even the display doesn’t indicate left channel amplitutde). And the working right channel makes some nasty “fssss-psss” sounds from time to time Should I return it?

Hi DR DCC, in the meantime, congratulations on your skill! I ask you for an opinion: I bought a Philips DCC900 deck sold as fully functional on eBay. Actually, as soon as I got it, I tried it and it has the following problems: 1) when playing DCC tapes, side A ALMOST ALWAYS works well; sometimes, however, the signal "skips" like when skipping the CD. 2) Reproducing side B this problem almost always arises. 3) the analogue cassettes have a volume equal to zero, practically imperceptible, so much so that the meter does not mark any notch. 4) sometimes the cassettes, especially the DCC, turn "whistle" (a "mechanical" whistle, not a signal one. A specialized technician here in Italy told me that it is probably sufficient to change the capacitors and that the whistle could be due to the cassettes that are a little old. What do you advise me to do? Do I try to repair it or return it? (ps: I paid 170 euros for it and it is in excellent aesthetic condition). Thanks for your patience and congratulations again!
I do not know if you have repair it or not but the whistle is from the capstan motor, you need to repair it or find a new one. The DCC 300 did the same and it was the motor
Ok good info allthough I have the same machine, but the single DCC tape I got with it simply doesn't output any sound. Tried recording on it. Looks like it works, but then again, I rewind, play back: zero sound. Not even a hiss. While it does play analogue cassettes without a problem (but quite poor sound quality compared to an analogue deck).... Hi, I exchanged all the capacitors on both printed circuit boards that were shown in your video. Unfortunately, there is still no sound. After inserting the cassette, the mechanism works correctly, but there is no signal at any of the outputs. Also, there is no sound after connecting the headphones. There is nothing on the display with the signal level. What is your suggestion for further searching for damage? What should I check first?
Grzegorz W What you can check further is the side a-b connections on the boards. In our other video about the Technics rsdc10 this is even better explained. These connections sometimes are damaged because of the acid leaking from the capacitors.
Hallo, Please give me advice. My problem may be related, but I'm not sure. If demonstrating the replacement of video components is enough for my problem, then what spare parts should I buy? You are very experienced and I hope you will advise me. Best Regards Robert, Prague
The problem you are describing might very well be capacitor related. If they have not been replaced, you should stop using the recorder immediately, before unrepairable damage occurs.
If you change the Elkos solder the same SMD in not this what you show us. The reason is that you install a 2nd inductor array and this will lift up the SNR on the Head Amplifier. Sometimes you have more Dropouts. Well it worked but what do you think why they install SMD parts!?
Volker King We have never experienced any dropouts after more than 100 units, replacing with regular caps. The main reason for not going back to smd is that the damage is often severe, and islands for soldering are sometimes completely gone. With regular caps you actually have room and legs to restore.

Hi I have just gotten hold of a none working Marantz DD82 Compact cassette player which has a problem it says tape blocked all the time is this due to a capacitor problem??. I would also like to change all the capacitors as well but not sure how many I need or what type I can solder quite well but never done a job as complex as this but i would like to try.So any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated thanks
In the description of the video the capacitors are mentioned. Cassette blocked is most likely a mechanical problem. You would have to open it up and inestigate.
Cass blocked means the tray is jammed. Check if the tray is perfectly horizontal one side may of come off its track guide. If the large wheel is hard to move then that's the problem. Press the tray back into the guide and it should be smooth to move. When you connect it back up it should say no cassette if there's no cassette in the tray of course! If it isn't the tray guide it could be something else jamming the tray. Examine the tape mechanism to see what looks out of place Peace ✌️ out people
@drdcc where can I get new belts for a Phillips 300 dcc? I'm going to try and fix a non working unit. So a recap is in order. What else should I watch out for? How hard is it to fix a try that won't eject? I didn't receive the unit yet...
Daniel White Hi, you can contact me at the dccmuseum website for more info on the belts. Replacement on the 300 is a bit tricky, but I can provide some pointers. I have not seen a 300 that needs new caps though. There are no smd caps in a 300.

DR DCC ..JOB IS DONE ALL CAPACITOR REPLACE WITH THE SAME VALUE BUT THE ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED.THE SOUND STILL CRACKING NOT CONTINOUS AND SMOTH..CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS THE ISSUE AND HOW CAN BE SOLVED..THANK YOU
Arvin Aves Hi, it can be a few things. There are metal connected islands to connect both sides of the board. Some of them are under the leaking capacitors and can be eaten away by the acid leaking. Check with a multimeter if they are intact. Double check if all soldering connections are good as well as the capacitor connections. Finally check the pinch rollers.
DR DCC Well nuts to that then. Wonder why they decided that was a good idea. And I am NOT desoldering a bunch of crap just to change a belt. I'll just look for one of the old Sony Walkman units Techmoan suggests in his recent video on them.
Only the second generation portables would need desoldering. First generations Players, Like the DCC130 or Panasonic you can get to the belt without any soldering.
Hello, I own a Marantz DD-92 and experience a somewhat different problem. During recording and monitoring of digital input I experience dropouts when the unit has warmed up. Is this still the same capacitor problem?
Eventhough the playback sound is terrific now, you still mean I have to replace the 17 capacitors on all the boards? THey look oke, there is no sign of any leakage...
charles van beetz A visual inspection really is not enough. You would have to measure them individually. The recapping has to be done to save your Marantz on the long run, regardless.
Repair at museum... Changing the capacitors only is not enough ! Those capacitors are leaking electrolytic and often other nearby A/D IC, potentiometers and other discrete are seriously affected. Not to talk about the PCB itself which often suffers of non conductive vias, circuit delamination and possible PCB layers delamination. Ultrasonic bath is not enough. If electrolytic is left it will continue its destruction over the time...
Interesting train of thought. We double clean with solution and afterwards a sonic bath. Removing all components leaves a very brittle solution at best.
Hi, there is a low hiss when I play a Dcc tape and a louder hiss when I play an analogue tape. There is no music and the level indicators do not move. Does this mean I have the capacitor problem? Peace ✌️ out people
OK, obviously when you're saying "print", you mean "board". also, why use through hole electrolytic caps, large format modern SMD caps would have been less of a mess.
Sarreq Teryx Yes, print was a direct translation of my native language. I was referring to the boards. You hear me comment on why we do not replace it with smd again. Most boards are really brittle from the leakage and to use regular caps it is less stressful for the boards. There is plenty of space for them. On the second generation players, Philips used regular through hole caps.
Big shit impossible to find one in operationnal condition ! Poor quality component and hasardous system. Minidisc system is better and more reliable. Bref, Japan quality vs Neerland quality.... Japan wins.

Hi, You would have to check the belts and pinch rollers. This video was just about the capacitors. The belts used on the first generation are very good. Depending on usage, the pinch rollers would go first.
@@DRDCC where would I get a list of the capacitors you replaced. On a service manual for that deck?
@@johnbateman4255 If you look at the description of this video, all capacitors are mentioned. The service manual can be downloaded via dccmuseum.com
@@DRDCC I will keep you posted on how I get on with the dcc player. Thanks again..
Hi Do you have a list of the capacitors that you replaced on the phillips dcc 900 player?
Yes, it is already in the description of the video.
@@DRDCC Hi Thanks I just noticed that they where there thanks. I've just bought a phillips dcc 900 on ebay ( Ive watched your dcc videos on youtube) which Im in the process if fixing. It has no sound but it shows up on the display thats there should be sound. I will order the caps in the next couple of days and get to work on fixing it. If I have any problems I will put it on the forum of Dcc museum for advice, hints or tips. Thanks again for your videos and knowledge of the dcc format.
Examine the tape mechanism to see what looks out of place
Peace ✌️ out people
@drdcc where can I get new belts for a Phillips 300 dcc? I'm going to try and fix a non working unit. So a recap is in order. What else should I watch out for? How hard is it to fix a try that won't eject? I didn't receive the unit yet...
Daniel White Hi, you can contact me at the dccmuseum website for more info on the belts. Replacement on the 300 is a bit tricky, but I can provide some pointers. I have not seen a 300 that needs new caps though. There are no smd caps in a 300.
HI DR dcc, Did you get all the caps at one place or did you get them from different places? I'm having a hard time getting them all together.
John Bateman We order ours at Mouser.
Hi, How should I plug the loudspeakers? by rca?
Josep Gardell Julià Connect it first to a amplifier.
Do you Know, who is gonna repair my Philips DCC900??? I still in Germany. Thank´s in advance.....
contact me at the museum. I might be able to help.
@@DRDCC Sorry, for late Reply.. How Much it is, to replace for the Capacitors??. And the cost for Sending it.. Thanks, in advance...Andy

Hello! I'm Fran. I have a mini chain system, FW91 from circa 1992. It's a beautiful system, made in Austria and it happens to have a DCC player/recorder. Everything works, except for the sound that's not coming out from the DCC player. Even analog cassettes are played back fine. But absolutely no sound for DCCs. VU meters show that music it's being payed and that track information it's being read on. Does the tutorial shown here would help me solve my problem? Would you suggest this for my player?
Thank you!!!
frvo if you are playing a dcc tape, the vu meters activate and track info is visible, there is something else going on. Can you hear sound from the headphones output? Contact us via the dccmuseum.com
DR DCC mmm... Didn't try that. I'll check it and get back at you. Thank you! Great video by the way!
Hi DR.DCC. I have Philips DCC900, when i put analog or dcc cassette won't play. On display write ''No Cassette''. Do you know some solution? I change all capacitors like you. Thanks. I
There are several detection switches you could try and clean in the mechanism. What is odd that it does not even detect a regular analog tape.
Do you mean this three swithes or no? imgur.com/a/E5gPBH0
vfdf fdd yes, and also to the left hand side of the mech (inside small 5 switches)
Can you tell me what the correct spec of capacitors are required to do the job please? I am up for trying to fix mine but need to know what to replace with. Thanks.
Hi, This is the part list.
]2,2µF/35V/BP - 1 - Nichicon UMP1V2R2MDD
4,7µF/16V/BP - 2 - Nichicon UMP1C4R7MDD
10µF/16V - 9 - Nichicon UMV1C100MFD
22µF/6V3 - 1 - Nichicon UMV0J220MFD
68µF/10V - 4 - Panasonic EEA-GA1A680
DR DCC 6V3? Should this be 6.3?
MP3 Rider correct
Thank you for your help and thanks for a great and informative video. I must now pluck up the courage to fix mine! LOL
Is this a service you offer to people like me?
What is the track on the end of everything video?
Outro track by Jeremy Heiden for our channel.
@@DRDCC Great, thanks
are the capstans direct drive or belt driven?
for the fastest help? forum.dccmuseum.com
Is this unit belt drive? Did any direct drive home, portable, or even car units exist?
Yes all DCC units are basically belt driven, including the portables and car units.
DR DCC Meh, still want direct drive through. Clever idea, though I'll stick to a direct drive deck and portable. Thanks for the info though.
Can you fix a tascam da30 keep ejecting the tape
Sorry, we only repair DCC.
Scary with beginner skills

Hello, I own a Marantz DD-92 and experience a somewhat different problem. During recording and monitoring of digital input I experience dropouts when the unit has warmed up. Is this still the same capacitor problem?
charles van beetz Hi, yes, it could very well be the capacitors on the second board. If you have not replaced the caps, you need to do this anyway.
Oke, thats clear.
Thanks
what is the value of the capacitor to replaced? or same value?
Arvin Aves we use the same values. Higher voltage is also possible.
Tengo el mismo. Funciona todo pero no hay audio. Que podrá ser ?
what solution do you use in the ultra-sonic cleaner?
Hi, started with iSonic cleaning solution and then just water.
are all of the replacement capacitors polarized or not?
steve kisner 2 are not. If you look at the description of the. Video, you can see their details.

Peace ✌️ out people
Possibly. It could be something else.
I am from romania and i have a same problem, and i can not find BP capacitors
you can find them at mouser.com

Hi
why should you recap a modern machine? this machine is the 2nd generation.........
This is a 1st Gen and it always needs new SMD caps.
Big shit impossible to find one in operationnal condition ! Poor quality component and hasardous system. Minidisc system is better and more reliable. Bref, Japan quality vs Neerland quality.... Japan wins.
Electrically it's all right, but aesthetically it's ugly with THT capacitors.
Good day..DR DCC..PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS THE ISSUE FOR "INI ERROR" AFTER POWER ON..THANK YOU
Arvin Aves that indicates a problem on the pw03 board, but could also be hardware/mechanism related. That board was recapped by you correct?
DR DCC.. Thank you for ur reply.. No im not the one who recap 1st the pw03.
Im the second to troubleshot the issue.. Pleas let me know what exactly part to be replace thank u..
Arvin Aves that is not very easy. You would need to measure a lot of things according to the schedule.
thank u..i find out from power area there are three capacitor are shorted and resistor hope after I replaced it will solved the issue.
