This isn't one of those "why do bad things happen to me" songs. It's a "why am I so blessed despite all the wrong things I've done" song.
Well said
Kris is an outlaw country legend. You’ve heard him as part of the Highwaymen. Kris was a helicopter pilot in the service and also a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford (England). This song is about finding Jesus after a hard living, rockstar lifestyle. Which really did happen to him. Another great reaction guys!!❤
Hey y'all, this was written from a real-life experience he had! The video is also on YT where he tells the story and performs the song surrounded by several major Country artists including Willie Nelson among others! Check it out, it's very touching! Great reaction!
I remember this song when It come out in the early 70's. I sang this all the time during my youth and growing up. I love this song! Thanks Y'all and great reaction.
Hey Asia & BJ ...👋❣
Awesome song ... fellow country singer Connie Smith took him to church with her and said he had a profound experience that led him to write this song.
The preacher was Jimmy Rodgers Snow who used to hang out with Elvis in the mid-50s. He gave up his singing career as a singer, was converted and became a pastor.
Kristofferson released his debut album Kristofferson in 1970. Among his songwriting credits are "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which became hits for other artists. Kristofferson was also a member of the country music supergroup the Highwaymen between 1985 and 1995. He has charted 12 times on the American Billboard Hot Country Songs charts; his highest peaking singles there are "Why Me" and "Highwayman", which reached number one in 1973 and 1985, respectively. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. He was a three-time Grammy Award winner, out of 13 total nominations. Kristofferson joined the Army in 1960 after graduating from Oxford. He became a helicopter pilot who trained at Fort Rucker in Alabama and also attended Ranger School, then worked as a helicopter pilot in Germany in the early 1960s and was eventually offered a teaching position at West Point in 1965 but turned it down and left the Army to chase his dream of becoming a country music singer/songwriter. He later used his piloting skills as a source of income while trying to succeed in Nashville in his early years there. For the next several years, Kristofferson focused on acting. He appeared in Cisco Pike (1972) with Gene Hackman; Blume in Love (1973), directed by Paul Mazursky; three Sam Peckinpah films: Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973), Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974), and Convoy (1978); and Michael Ritchie's Semi-Tough (1977) with Burt Reynolds. He continued acting in Martin Scorsese's Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), Vigilante Force (1976), The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (1976), and the romantic drama A Star Is Born (1976) with Barbra Streisand, for which he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. At the peak of his box office power, Kristofferson turned down William Friedkin's Sorcerer (1977) and the romantic war film Hanover Street (1979). Despite his success with Streisand, Kristofferson's solo musical career headed downward with his non-charting ninth album, Shake Hands with the Devil. His next film, the two-part 1979 NBC-TV movie Freedom Road, did not get good ratings nuf said. Peace out.
Kris Kristofferson and his passed on from this Earth but he was a hell of a songwriter for a lot of artists through the years
You need to check out where he tells the story on why he wrote the song.
I have his first album. He was wonderful in the movie. A star is born with Barbra Streisand. He wrote so many great songs for others. He will be missed RIP Kris Kristofferson.
Kris has many many Country Hits .... Try Sunday Morning Coming Down ... as one hit
He hung out with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, called themselves the Highway men
---- Thank You for listening to Kris .... I liked him alot from back in the 70's and 80's
Amen. Kris Kristofferson (RIP) . So many great songs. Great lyricist, actor, American. Listen to “Sunday Morning Coming Down” for one of the most drunken sinner songs sang. He was an accomplished man. He and Wesley Snipes killed it in the original Blade if you’re down for watching that? Or “A Star is Born” with Barbara Streisand if you’re down for watching that? Kris Kristofferson is an American legend.
There's a live version of this out there where he explains how and why he wrote it and ends up giving his testimony. Very moving.
This is one of the greatest songs ever written❤❤❤
Kris Kristofferson has to be one of the most talented humans who ever lived. Before writing some of the most amazing songs ever written, he was a Rhodes Scholar with a master's degree in English lit, an Army captain and helicopter pilot and a football and rugby star. He was also a Golden Globe-winning actor who starred opposite Barbra Streisand in A Star Is Born. He was a member of the supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. I think if you take seven minutes to read his biography in Wikipedia, you'll truly be amazed at what one man can accomplish in a single lifetime.
My grandma used to play this on her record player every Saturday morning while she was cooking breakfast. Some of my favorite memories growing up.
Yes Asia!! Why me Lord! We waiting on you… your voice is meant for more!!🙏🙏🙏
This was my Daddy's theme song. A rake who came to the Lord only after tragedy struck, he never felt himself worthy. I will forever regret not having this song played at his funeral. Thanks for sharing!
Kris Kristopherson was an american poet. Blessed to have seen him perform at Willie Nelson's Picnic in 1984. My dad loved this song performed by J.D. Sumner with Elvis Presley 1974 I believe. Worth a listen Love y'all.
Killing it once again!
LORD JESUS im such a sinner but YOU continue to bless me in spite of me YOUR Love to Christians is so unconditional and YOUR Mercies are new every morning In Jesus Name Amen
One of his best. There is a video of him telling how he came to write this song.
There's a lot of versions of this on RUclips. My personal favorite is Kris doing it with the other three Highwaymen joining in for the chorus. Then there's the Elvis -JD Sumner version where Elvis does the chorus and Sumner does the rest.
I'm not a songwriter or a poet, but one of my biggest aspirations is to write a song for God to express my love, gratitude, and appreciation for Him.
Elvis did this live in concert and it is fabulous also.
Kris told the story about this song on television then performed it live with a couple other country stars who were present including Willie Nelson and Jayne Fricke.
He also wrote Me and My Bobbie McGee which was the last single recorded by Janice Joplin before she passed.
You two blew this one , its not about our suffering , its about humbling down before our Lord and Savior and his love and grace that none of us could ever do enough to deserve . Thats ok though because I belive you two are getting there , may God bless you both, Amen.
This one is his testimony. He had a powerful religious experience in church and out of that he wrote this song. He was something of a bad boy country singer, but he cleaned his act up late in life.
Grew up with this guy. He was a special human being. Great rabbit hole to go down
He weote this after a personal experience with god when visiting a friends church
Miss you'll guys from Lynchburg Virginia
This one flips the script. Instead of coming from the perspective of self pity, he comes from the side of thankfulness. Great approach that we can all learn from.
I'm glad you are doing Kris's work, he is amazing.
Hey Fam.. I remember when MikeyG requested this song on one of our livestreams❤❤ I do love it so... and I do miss my bro!!!🥹🫂
I love this song. So sweet and so simple. I love his voice and it is a real experience that he had.
Kris is straight oldschool. He was as much Hollywood as he was music by the time I was born and I'm proper Gen-X with a fair buffer.
You can never go wrong with county.
Been a long time for Santana (brightest Star) you two will like this song
“The Pilgrim” is my all time favorite Kris song!
Hesa country singer who also does some gospel songs. He wrote this after an experience at church. Check out another song he wrote called Sunday morning coming down
He’s outlaw country
Kris lived an amazing diverse life! We should all be as lucky!
The story behind this song is incredible. Look it up.
Kris Kristofferson wasn't a great singer but, he wrote so many beautiful songs! Talented .❤
Inspired by responding to an altar call. There is a video where Kris tells the story before singing the song live.
This is a man thanking Jesus for all that has been done for him that he did not deserve and asking what can I do to repay and maybe I can help lead someone else to you by telling them by what I have went through when I was out away from you to get back to you . He is thanking God for all he has been blessed with , He is saying Why Me Lord why would you bless me so much when I am nothing.
He wrote the song the day he got saved He just got off the doing hard drugs because of Janice Joplin. And he realized it was blessed with a gift and didn't know how to use it for good After all , he grew up in a hard neighborhood but yet was a Very intelligent man Wrote many Songs like l Sunday morning coming down very good one thank you for your reaction
He wrote a song that was recorded by Johnny Cash called, Sunday Morning Coming Down, it's a pretty cool song.
Listen to, Help Me Make it Through the Night.
He was one of the greatest song writers
Hes an actor and songwriter. Hes country. There's a video where he tells how he went to church and was called to the front of the church by God against his wishes. Said it was a calling he had to answer. Then he wrote this song
He wrote the song like the day after going to church and getting saved
Whisler. One of the best. 🙏
Look up the video where Kris tells his own story behind the this song. It's a goose-bumpy story about a real experience.
His song about being the prodigal son who wasted years on doing his own thing then found his way back home to the Lord. His reconversion. He was feeling blessed to have been welcomed home with open arms.
"I know what I am" is him acknowledging he was (RIP) a sinner. He was with Janis Joplin and wrote Me and Bobby McGee for her.
One of the other songs he wrote was ME AND BOBBY MCGEE, made famous by Janis Joplin.
Chris is one of the most talented and prolific song writers of the 20th century.
Go check out his story. He definitely lived a "full" life!
Rhodes Scholar, (Einstein’s IQ was 160, Kristofferson’s was 163), Army Ranger and helicopter pilot,singer/songwriter and actor
If you want the story behind this song, check out his version and video; The Story behind "Why Me, Lord".
Kris' song, Loving her was easier .... it's a great listen!
Yes. He and Barbra Streisand had a hit movie " A Star Is Born". I think you guys will like it!
I grew up with this song, 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🏻🌎🙏🏻✝️
He was all over the music road
He was in the movie Blade..
Kris Kristofferson died on September 28, 2024 at the age of 88. He died peacefully at his home in Maui, Hawaii.
There's another video with a bunch of other muscians where he tells the story of how he got saved and where this song came from
Beautiful song and reaction by you both. Check out the song "Drinking From My Saucer" by Michael Combs. It's a song about being thankful. I really think you'll enjoy it because it too is like this song in that it reminds us to share our love and faith.
He was in Star Wars. What is one of the biggest movie stars in academy forecast to last week healing from MIT
All he is saying is that he knows he is a sinner and isn't worthy of salvation, but is so grateful for it. He is thanking Jesus for dying on the cross for him.
You should really do, Loving Her Was Easier! One of the best songs ever written!
He's considered Country, but this song arose from a religious experience he had!
This is a real life experience that Kriss had and there is actually a very good video on RUclips about it, check it out.❤ just do a short Wikipedia search on Kris Kristofferson, a very talented man in many ways.😊
Loved him in Blade and in the movie a Star is Born with Barbara
You should find the video where he talks about going to church with a friend and found himself drawn to go to the alter , and being saved at the service, which caused him to write this song. A lot of his writing was based on personal experiences. One of his biggest songs he wrote was Janis Joplin’s “Me And Bobby McGee” ….in fact he was dating her at the time she overdosed and died. He wasn’t even aware that she’d recorded his song. And she died before it was released..
You should check out his interview with Ralph Emory where he talks about this song
He wrote hit songs for many others, such as Janis Joplin. He was an Air Force pilot, but gave it up to be a writer performer, and he became a legend. Too much booze and drugs made his life hell, but he finally found his way back.
i sing this to my wife every time she annoys me
R.I.P.
He’s great! Elvis does a good cover also.
He wrote this after being taken to church and felt himself touched by God.
Many called few are chosen
❤❤❤❤❤
Rip Kris!!!!
Who wrote me and Bobby McGee another Sunday morning coming down for Valentine?
💯❤
Kristofferson wasn't the best singer, but he was definitely a brilliant songwriter and just brilliant in general. I remember seeing K and his wife in the early '70's. The two later divorced, but his former wife, Rita Coolidge had a great voice.
Back!
Why do we hardly see you guys??😢 And Asia, have you done anymore music??😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
He's basically saying that he did a lot of wrongs in life, drugs, drinking, wasting money, cheating and wants to know why God continued to bless him with so much. He then talks about maybe he should be sharing the wrongs he's done in order to help others to see that after all of that you can find Jesus and pull yourself out of the wrong that you did. Recognize and admit your sins, try to correct them and not repeat them and God will forgive you✝
It's about the drugs and alcohol he ruined he's life with
Truth that he wants to be better.
Why not You
Despite having a "kingdom of dirt" he knows he has wasted his life on trifles. He confesses his sinfulness and need of the Savior --Jesus.
Wasted his life thru the hard living of a major star. He had a profound religious experience in church
