Our identities cannot be found on temporal things. Like beauty, money, fame, for example. Those things not only will not come with us when we die, but they also have no life in them. They just give us temporary joy and mask any emptiness we feel inside. So when they are taken away, we feel lost and we lose our identity. We have to know first that our identities are not found in our hobbies, other people, or just things. Sydel, your identity is first in who God says you are.
It is in who He called you to be. And He knew you even before you were in your mom’s womb. You are worth more than any sport that you’ve played. You were made with purpose love. There’s life in you.
You are not measured by a “missed” opportunity to play volleyball professionally or volleyball being taken away from you. That’s what people will have you believe or even your own mind. But remember that you are not defined by those things. Why? Because they are temporal things - man made and temporary. You are worth more than that. Worth more than that. You are worth more than that Sydel. I know God will show you that powerfully.

Wow, I don’t even know where to start! First off, thank you for being so open and transparent about your daily struggle and how you’re overcoming each day! For a few years now I’ve struggled with anxiety, LOTS of stress and some depression. Currently in my life, I’m trying to find more outlets to handle these things. It’s hard because for years I’ve literally suffered in silence about a lot of issues. But, I love how you talked about taking care of yourself and doing things that you love whether it’s listening to music, taking a bath or going on a walk! I tend to worry and stress so much about situations that lately my body has been affected. I had my first HORRIBLE migraine about two weeks ago and I experienced some bad vertigo (I literally started praying because in the moment I was in so much pain, crying and vomiting) I thought I was going to die! I kid you not!! I had to go to the Er to get some pain shots and found out that the cause of this migraine was stress! And it’s crazy I can remember the exact moment it happened and how overwhelmed and frustrated i was in my room!
Said all that to say, you are not alone! We’re in this together. And one thing that I rely on the most in life is God and my relationship with him. I know he loves me and there is purpose in all this pain! Keep shining Sydel✨💕

*_Thanks for taking us along sis! My go-to whenever I have anxiety, fear, or feelings of overwhelm is PRAYER, & specifically... praying the Word! Makes such a difference in my life and the power of God delivering me is so evident!! 💪🏽💥🔥 It’s so true how our identity needs to be set before we can really go forward in our purpose! If we find our identity in Christ, we have the perfect foundation to serve the world and live in our purpose! Best wishes to you mama! Gonna add you to my prayer list!!!_* 🥰🥰🥰

I can relate to stop playing a sport to soon. Basketball was my everything. Not being able to play it is so depressing. It has been over 10 years and it still hurts letting go. I applaud your strength to know what to do to help give you peace. Please know that God won't give you more than you can bare. Keep up the good work. I'm praying your strength. Thanks for the video.

SYDEL!!! WOW! The ability to recognize your problem(mental health), know how to handle it(giving yourself a chance to talk it through), and moving on( giving yourself permission to continue with life) say sooooo much about the woman/person you are. You are the voice, courage and the light at the end of a tunnel. I don't know what anyone with mental health issues go through on the daily. Thank you for shedding a light with mental issues for someone like me. YOU DO HAVE A CALLING AND GOD IS LEADING YOU TO IT. 🙏 STAY FOCUS AND LOVE YOURSELF FIRST. YOU MATTER! 😘

I saved this video a long time ago and I am listening to it again and wow. As a teacher I was hospitalized with Covid and it was such a hard reset. I stopped investing in myself and taking care of myself for so long, I had to find out what does it mean to fill up my cup or work on myself. Ive devoted so much of my time to teaching that I let go of friends and spending time with family and the things that interest me like running or even going to a concert or game. Im so glad to be reminded that I have to invest in myself. Ive lost that for so many years that when i look in the mirror not only weight wise but in general - where did all of my goals go. We are so important and Ive lost so much of that. Thanks for this.

Sydel, thank you so much for sharing! I had a panic disorder in my 20’s. I was hospitalized a few times and each time my heart would start racing, I’d have hot flashes, sweating...it was so terrible. I had a sleep disorder for 4 years! I was on 3-4 different medicines. Now, I take no medicine. I sleep like a baby. I rarely ever feel anxious. It’s really amazing. I would tell you to pray, pray, pray. I think my anxiety stopped when I learned how the catch it and trick it. You gotta outsmart your anxiety. Believe it or not, it doesn’t have to be something that tortures your life. I PROMISE!

Thank you for sharing that. I got really emotional watching this. 😢 I can TOTALLY relate. I had my first anxiety attack at 13 and passed out in a supermarket. I had no clue what was happening to me at the time. And like you said, I literally thought I was going to die.
It’s really a scary feeling when you’re having a panic attack as well as being in constant fear of having another one at any given time.
Honestly , thanks for sharing. I’m so grateful for this video. 🙏🏾

What you are saying and doing on this channel is helping so many of us now Sydel. When you described your anxiety and what you were going through, is exactly what I went through at one point in my life. I went to the ER because I thought I was dying. The attack came on suddenly and out of no where. Once I realized what it was I was going through, I learned how to mentally cope. It’s not easy. But I’m still learning. You are giving a voice to so many of us who are afraid or even embarrassed to talk about it. For fear that we may be judged. Thank you for sharing your feelings, talks and channel with us. You are helping many already. Prayers for you and your family always..

Every day I wake up Thanking my creator for everything he has done, doing now and in my future. Striving to be more like Christ each day. I’m not perfect but being more like him is so self gratifying for me. Being a better mother. God knows there’s no handbook for parenting but just being a better mother and example for my kids. Getting back to putting myself first unselfishly and what I love for myself career wise is currently a self goal.

Loved this Sydel! I’m 25 and coming up on my one-year marriage anniversary. This past year has been amazing but also stretching & overwhelming at times. I’m so thankful to have a husband who cares about my mental health & maintaining my joy. I was a dancer for 8 years & danced in college and once I graduated from NC State 3 years ago it just stopped. I wasn’t ready & I’m still having a hard time channeling all I put into dance into other things. Dance was my mental break and recharge. I’m learning to put it into things I couldn’t in college bc of class & my dance commitments. So now I’m writing more, doing ministry, etc. and trying to find classes I can take that my injured knees can handle. We got this ❤️

You deserve way more followers, and everyone should watch these videos. You're really inspiring, and the best thing about you is your honesty and also you're so real, not hiding anything, showing everything how it is.
I'm having anxiety and panic attacks as well. And I'm never crying in front of people, and I don't talk to anyone. I just lock myself in a bathroom and cry at nights...And my life's really difficult and so far from the life that I want to live, but I'm just trying to be positive and to believe in God and believe that my dreams will come true... thank you for everything 🙏🙏🙏

I’m so glad that there is someone like you that isn’t the only person that is dealing with mental health. I’m struggling with it myself being in college. I get really bad stress and anxiety for almost about everything in college. I almost cry every night because I feel like I’m not gonna make it in life especially being in my 3rd of college. I have 5 classes 4 days a week, I’m apart of 2 student organizations, and I work at campus events through one of my student organizations. I constantly worry will I ever make it in life like with getting my own place, getting a job, etc. And sometimes I have stomach aches at night that causes me to cry and sweat and not to have any sleep. I can definitely relate. It’s hard to try deal with it and it’s a battle. I’m getting the help I need now by getting counseling and taking it one day at a time.
I’m so glad that there is someone like you that I can look up to about this.
Thank you Sydel. May God bless you.

Sydel Thank you for sharing your Mental Health updates with us. I love them because I have anxiety, get overwhelmed and cry when things are too much. However, watching your mental health videos, reading my bible verses every night and praying every single night helps me with my Mental Health. Also the one time I got to talk with you live helped me as well when I was talking about my Master’s Degree and stuff it felt like I had someone in my corner who gets me because not a lot of people do. Especially since I going to a whole new career then what I actually got my Bachelors which is Education to trying to get a Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology and having to come home and live with my parents instead of living on my own like I had planned once I got out of college. So I completely understand what you’re going through and I struggle with the thought of feeling like I’m running out of time and that I should have already found my career or be in my career by now.

Hi Sydel. It's such a great pleasure to see this. After the anxiety and depression I've been through, and such strong anxiety that the word psychosis was thrown around, and after everything I've seen, and my mother's advice that God is the best doctor and medicine, I truly believe and have witnessed people with the help of the Lord first, friends, family, spouses, church communities, exercise friends, that healing is possible!!!! I've been looking into it for several years and trying to take the most natural route to ending anxiety and depression once and for all. Please just hang in there!! For now....for now....it may seem like you can't play volleyball, but be patient. I was able to come back to pretty competitive soccer and am doing that again now. Seriously, my mama' was right when she says with God all things are possible, especially if ignoring the negative stuff in the world, until we feel more like our natural selves. So until you can return to your outlet of volleyball, I really believe these videos that you create are another great and healthy outlet. Keep up the great work! You're a health soldier and probably a prayer warrior too so keep up the good work know that drastic healing and improvement is possible!!! I've seen it and am looking to have my once and for all comeback back to my old happy go lucky, pretty calm and balanced and athletic nimble child of Christ and big family guy who loves people. I have a great feeling about your mental wellness future so stay the course!! keep up the videos, stay close to God, research other natural ways to feel better, (i've seen nutricional psychiatry, kind of new, can work wonders, basically some foods frutis and vegetables can work wonders) and keep cherishing the small things and being you. You're going to feel so comfortable in your own skin soon, so keep it up so there are people like us in this world. Don't think you'll need it, but best of luck and blessings.!!!! Pura vida (hint for what country im from) :)

Thank you for bringing to the light the topic of mental health and depression etc honestly it’s a tough subject to talk about at times in which takes a lot of courage, it is really important to know that we are not alone and to realize that we can’t be stagnant we have to find ways to cope and find a hide away so yes gurl continue finding that outlet I realize that for me I have to be easy on myself and take one day at a time because there’s a lot of things I can’t fix but there’s way I can cope with it which is by talking it out and identifying why I feel this way.But soon you will find you just keep searching. Yes to the journey of self care 🙌🏾🙂

Sydel, first I would like to thank you for your courage to put your feelings and emotions in public view. Mental health is something that we don't discuss openly and I just want to say thank you. I've suffered from horrible depression in my life. I am now 45 years old and I have two daughters and my oldest one is going off to college. I I have learned to work through the emotions and anxiety. I start by first acknowledging it and acknowledging that I am stronger then the fear and anxiety. I have learned to start taking care of myself first through prayer. Then through meditation. The other thing is talking about it to other people. One idea that I may have for you is taking your love of volleyball and maybe doing something to instill that in other young women or girls and your community. Maybe coming in and doing pop-ups at some of the local high schools during practice or summer volleyball camps. Maybe give them ideas on techniques while you're there something like that.

Sydel, you have a whole community of supporters, who are listening, and admiring your authenticity. Ventilate and continue to acknowledge your truth, as you are an inspiration to so many. Use your volleyball passion and knowledge to train, coach or Vlog. Your mental health advocacy is your present empowerment tool to reach a community that’s isolated and afraid to disclose their on going circumstance. Personally, I am becoming more in tuned with my mind, body and spiritual self. We thank you for been so honest and transparent. Keep breathing and taking a breath you have a new calling.🙏🏾💐

You’re so much more than ‘volleyball’.
We all come into this world for a purpose and know that just playing volleyball, wasn’t it.
You have so much talent and you can do so much.
I have anxiety as well because my job is sooo stressful but I realized that I am more than just that job. I pray everyday and I trust the process and I am learning how to be patient, with myself and everything else around me. I also quit drinking coffee. Lol. Let me tell you that I have been feeling way much better (mentally) for the past 2 months.
Pray and trust YOUR process 🙂

I’m constantly working on continuing to reduce anxiety, and really prevention, through investing in myself through my health (exercise, water, sleep), building up my support network with friends and family, and learning into my life’s purpose. I’ve seen real improvement in my mood and dealing with anxiety when I release things I cannot control, embrace what I can, and dive deeper into my relationship with God to guide my steps in life.

Man it’s tough when you devote yourself to one thing it’s pretty hard to let it go.I’m dealing with it too . But im currently on a journey to find myself and seeing what else I can do. The one thing it always comes do to for me is gratitude. But I do find myself going in circles at times but I guess that will change after I find what’s next for me. I wish you the best Sydel. I’m actually thinking of making a RUclips channel about my life in NYC . I might also get into acting or movie making.

Keep praying my dear, keep the faith, keep doing what you're doing because you're helping more people than you think, keep the positive vibe, and second most important after prayer make sure you take your daily naps no matter what. Stay blessed and sweet my dear sister in Christ.

I am putting you on my prayer list, yes find something that you can do on a regular basis in between all of the traveling that you do. Take a cooking class, or an exercise class, or something you've always wanted to do that is kind to all the traveling you do. I need to improve on not procrastinating, I severely procrastinate and for no reason and I need to figure out something for me other than being my son's mother. My son graduates this year and he doesn't need me as much as he use to and I am glad of that but it's been about him so much so I have to figure things out.

Sydel, I appreciate you and the message you bring! When I experience my panic attacks listening to yourself and staying calm are keys. What helps me is naming at least 5 things I see (like naming 5 things that are blue) to help me refocus. What I struggle with sometimes is learning to gain the self confidence.

I can totally relate to trying to figure out your identity. While in college, sometimes I feel as though I’m wasting time or don’t know the career path I want to follow. I’m so honored that you share this with us, and I know it may not be the easiest thing to talk about to strangers. 🥰

You are such a sweet spirit. Thank you for sharing your story and your struggles. I am twice your age, haha, and my own struggle with my identity is real. I have 4 kids, they are 24, 21, 18,and 16. I have been "mothering" for along while, but can see the day they are all gone from home. (2 of them already are gone) So i am trying to figure out what comes next, what my true interests are, and so on. Change is hard, but hopefully will be good! Relying on God and a lot of prayer!!

Sydel , firstly I want to say that I’m so grateful for our video chat!! You have been a blessing to me! Your like my best friend in my head lol... I’m working on taking better care of me. Implementing a time everyday where I’m able to sew back into myself all the energy that I’ve put out for others. That includes yoga, meditation, exercise, reading a book. Whatever I need! Thank you for your truth!!! My ig is @1st_lady 😘

Thank You for sharing! God has great things in store for you, continue to trust and lean on Him☝🏾I also struggled with anxiety, before my grandma passed away she would always tell me to pray Philippians 4:6,7”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” 🙏🏾 Praying for you Sydel💛Be encouraged!

thanks for sharing! I’ve been having anxiety attacks on and off for a few weeks so I can totally relate (I haven’t had them in a while). Hearing other people talk about what I’m going through is so healing. Totally relate about losing my identity as well, and depression and anxiety can really exacerbate that feeling. I’ve come to accept that I can’t get back to myself until I get my mental health right! I’m hoping you can find your healthy balance and re-establish your identity🤗❤️🥰

I get you 100%!! I’m dealing with the same issues. The only thing is I devoted myself to my family. So I’m trying to find my purpose and my in this world at 41 years old. I been praying and just waiting for God to come see about me, lol. But in the mean while I’m in school pursuing my Bachelors Degree trying to figure out this thing call life.

You seem like you hold it together so well! It looks like you’re an amazing aunt, sister, daughter and friend. How do you put aside what you’re going through and be present with people in your life? Or do you share your struggles with them and ask for support? I was wondering how you navigate. & Honestly, this mental health check in means a lot coming from you. Thank you for letting God use you!

Thank you so much, for your wise words of wisdom! Sydel, we all have to take care of ourselves! Self help is so important! Like you said, each one of us is Amazing! Just keeping up those Daily affirmations, in a quiet space is good to do every morning! That is the only time, that I can be at one with God and pray that he will direct my path! Sydel, you are AMAZING too! Good video!

i know exactly how you feel, Sydel. I've suffered from anxiety since 2006. first time I was unable to breath, gasping, terrible feeling. went to hospital, found out I wasn't experiencing a heart attack, thank god, but anxiety. i'm on meds since then. doing fine most of the time, but feel sad at times. sleep a lot too because of med's. please take care, Sydel and you have your family for the greatest support, believe me. please don't cry, but pray whenever you
feel this way..love & peace to you always...Belinda..

sydel, this is a powerful video. in an age of social media where influencers paint a picture of a perfect life, you're using the platform for good. i think you could write an amazing book on your life story. you have a lot of wisdom.
for my mental health, i have to keep reminding myself: 'this isn't my fault. i didn't do something bad and now this is my punishment' & like you said, i show myself the compassion i need for others.
have you considered volunteering as a coach for a summer camp or after-school program? it could give you the proximity to volleyball that feeds your passion.
