Any idiot can go out and buy an expensive watch, but the story behind the watch you buy and the legacy that it has is what truly makes haute horology a true art. I admire Mr. Xabi for perpetuating this fine art in all of its glory.
Believe it or not my dad sold him one of these. He works for a shop in the Burlington arcade watches that specialises in IWC for the not part. I'm personally so proud to have his autograph such a humble and nice guy, not to mention being an absolute legend of the game.
The production value of these videos made by Mr Porter just blows my mind. They look so minimal, have a soothing tone and still look so elegant and sophisticated.
I love his comment about having “nice things, not too showy, and not to draw too much attention”. So perfect and so much class. I can’t help but contrast the typical blinged-out AP or Rolex wearer that I occasionally come across.
Definitely true that it's about technique and clever editing. But you can't tell me they aren't using state of the art gear here. The image quality is so sharp and dynamic, probably an Alexa I'm guessing.

What tends to happen is that Xabi has an agent who would look for certain types of relationships. Such as what watches Xabi has or cars, food, beauty products or anything you can think of. And then they approach different brands to build relationships. Or it could have been just a discussion with a watch shop as you said.
