Sorin, you are a LEGEND man......I borrowed a laptop from one of my friends to use it for my Final exams and the same fault occurred and i was very afraid. Smashing, a good old laptop lives again :-). The memory may not be faulty, i have found that some systems will not work with certain memory types, usually chipset limitations on module capacity.

Everytime I use the nvidia graphics for example gaming, driver stops working and I get this error nvlddmkm.sys. What should I check? Maybe you've seen this error before and you know what to do.
First of all your videos are so interesting to watch. Second .. I have a hp 440 G2 probook . I was working on the noisy fan , trying to fix it and and had a 5v source close to the usb port. Accidentally the open terminals of 5 v source touched the data lines of usb port and laptop shutdown. Whenever I try to restart, the fans spins at max rpm battery led glows and the power and WiFi lights turn on and the laptop shuts down after few seconds without any display. Can you tell me or can you make a smart guess with you experience what could have damaged or what could be the possible cause?
My HP Envy 13 ay0050au turns on power LED and fan boosted with noise then after 20-30 seconds fan goes off (as CPU gets hot). Power LED remains on and black screen through out this process. One more thing (though it's rare), caps blink 2 times but sometimes in 5:3 ratio. I tried reprogramming BIOS with USB recovery but it failed also because of display. Unfortunately, couldn't use extra monitor because of no HDMI
hello i was wondering if you can help me my latitude 7480 was overheating so replace it with brand new thermal i did all of the proper safe procedures when disassmbling the labtop from wearing anti static wrist latext gloves removing the internal battery , cmos battery holding the power button down for a min to drain whatever power that is left disassemble the heat sink fan removing the thermal paste from the cpu gently and lightly as possible where i dont damage or scratch the cpu and video chip put new thermal paste and installed everything back and now it doesnt turn with or without the charger just now power idk what could be the problem all i did was remove the thermal from the cpu so i went back to what ive done remove the thermal off the cpu and video chip got a flashlight and a magnifying glass to thoroughly check the cpu and video chip and theres no scratches ,dings, etc both are fine ive been doing this for years this is the first time ive had this problem before i would appreciate it very much if you or anyone can help me and tell me what could be the problem my labtop is a DELL LATITUDE 7480 i7-6600U looking forward to hear from you or anyone here that can help me with this problem .
i have the same problem on my laptop first i thought its a ram since ram is also responsible for bringing the display to turn on but later found out its the ati/amd graphics that has the problem , i also tried the memory stick on other laptop and it didnt work i later found out its because of its little capacitors thats still charge that holds the data on the stick chip tobe refreshed so i put some alcohol on a piece of rag and rub it all over the for double purpose to discharge the capacitors and to clean the ram then tested it again and it worked fine until now
Mine (not a dell) comes on , loads windows and browsers /programs etc, but within 30secs / a minute the fans go full blast and then it shuts down, also it can't see the gpu (inbuilt nvidia) so looks like a similar issue. It has an 8th gen intel chip so it runs initially on the inbuilt intel graphics. The thermal paste is also dry and powdery so I will try the same as you - do you recommend a particular thermal paste for maximum heat txfer? could it be a further component fault that is causing the temperature rise and shutting down access to the gpu , rather than the gpu being a problem? thx
What if everything seems to be working fine, the system is booting to the log in screen etc., but as soon as I try clicking on it, or shortly after I log in to the system and start using it, it resets? My first thought was that it's overheating, but I replaced the thermal paste with a new one and same thing happens :q It doesn't seem to be overheating too, because the fan is idle most of the time and only boosting for a while just after turning it on and then settles down. It doesn't seem to get hot either. It had some power issues too for a while - the 3.3V power rail was missing, because the chip that drives the MOSFETs was missing the reference voltate 2.0V, and it didn't turn on at all - but when I started fiddling around it with the probes, it suddenly started working again :q Could this problem be related to it somehow? E.g. some bad junction around this chip causing the entire system to reset at random times?
Why don't you try the simple thing first? Clean install windows, then try the other things.. I had an issue with my screen (pink and green lines flickering all across the screen), I couldn't use the laptop.. It worked on hdmi on my tv so I got that it was either screen or cable.. I switched the screen to 40Hz and it stopped. After few months same thing but this time the solution didn't help, so I tried everything, I knew it wasn't windows because it was happening as soon as I press the power button, in BIOS also.. and after I almost ordered a new screen, I tried reinstalling the windows (when all hopes are gone you try the impossible) and guess what it worked.. windows is one terrible OS.. I still don't know how could windows do that, it doesn't make sense.. Also your problem sounds like software error to me because nothing happens untill you go into OS.. Try going into BIOS and leave it that way. If it doesn't turn off after like 20 min, it's probably windows. If it does then try putting a new HDD from another laptop.. If the problem persists then check ram..
Nice video and nice work Sir. May I ask your advice for my Laptop? I have Toshiba T451 Laptop. Sometimes the operation is good but sometimes not. The monitor suddenly become dim, no picture output and after few minutes it shuts down. I tried to restart it, it booted and then, monitor again become dim. I shut it off and connected it to an external monitor and restart it. It booted, I can see in the laptop monitor and to the external monitor but when the laptop monitor goes dim, the external monitor also goes dim. This keeps happening until now. Sometimes I can use it all day long, watching movies in youtube, etc, seems nothing wrong.... What do you think is the cause of this problem? Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you very much.
@Electronics Repair School In fact it is dodggy, but I understand your point of view. in such old laptop whatever BGA replacing is unprofitable, so obviously castomer will say nah, I will buy a new one...
Hi,Toshiba satellite C650 Model Laptop - Display goes off after 4-5 minutes of working. Fan is clean. Heat sink normal heat. Cleaned CPU and GPU and applied new thermal paste. Works for sometime, but again display gets off. Power LED and charging LED still glows. But No display. Could you please advice what could be the issue.
There were several things to take into account to answer your quiestion: This is an old model, thermal paste on top of graphics chip was solidified because of normal use and old age, eventually the heat generated by the chip wasn't able to flow as supposed through the paste to the heat sink and it overheated, this constant heat/cold cycle affects the solder balls underneath the chip eventually disconnecting them or causing loose contacts (Cold Solder). With the help of the hot air the solder melts and completes the contact once again between motherboard and chip, next he'll replace the thermal past and it will work again until this cycle repeats. How long it will last depends on several factors: - Quality of thermal paste - Use - Condition of the soldering beneath
