Spyro the Dragon Characters: Good to Evil
After the release of Crash’s N. Sane Trilogy, everyone started speculating when Spyro the Dragon would get his time in the spotlight. As it turns out, the purple dragon would get the remake treatment only two years later with Spyro: Reignited, giving a new generation the chance to collect hoards of gems, fly through open-world levels, and defeat the villains plaguing the Dragon Worlds. The Spyro series is lush with memorable NPCs, so in order to qualify for this list, the characters either have to be playable or appear in multiple cutscenes within the games - so if you were hoping the Fracture Hills Alchemist would be the most evil, you’re outta luck. The first five console games tend to all be considered the same canon, so those are the ones we’ll be looking at. We also will be counting the alternate continuity from the Legend of Spyro; however, if a character’s appearances overlap into both timelines, we’ll only count their original appearance to prevent confusion. However, we won’t be counting anything from the GBA games or Skylanders, because that would make this list longer than a Crash 4 completion run. With that out of the way, let’s get on to the list.

16:22 Give Ripto more credit. Elora said, "He's causing all sorts of trouble around here." I think it's implied there that the problems in Avalar that Spyro resolved were started by Ripto. He created social chaos in all of Avalar within a week of his arrival. That sounds like a pretty big accomplishment to me.
Edit: I'd also like to add that it's always too soon to see any effect of his rule. He's making his conquest without an army, so it'll take longer for anything to change.
So, before actually trying to take the throne, he causes so much disarray in Avalar that everyone is too distracted trying to get their own worlds in order to notice when he does take it. And by the time the people would notice, he's already in control. I know it didn't work out for him, but his strategy was honestly kind of genius.

Yeah, I understand why Bianca is on the "Grey List" but she isn't evil one bit.
Bianca was so focused to become a real sorceress, that she was easily manipulated by the sorceress herself. If she knew what the evil sorceress was planing, she would never have helped her in the first place.
Also she assisted Spyro to defeat the evil sorceress once and for all. So, she good at heart.°)

The original trilogy is the best.
Ah, I called it! I knew the Sorceress was gonna be the most evil main series character. If the Legend Series didn't count, she'd get the gold medal. Like, mutilating infants? That alone makes for a dark villain in a generally cartoony series.
Yet Ripto was still a way harder opponent then the Sorceress 🧙♀️.
What is she supposed to be anyway? An alligator? A dragon without wings?

It sounds kind of unfair that Red Dragon's redemption doesn't count just because it happened in a DS game
Agree, it's what made me like Red. I'm not the biggest fan of Shadow Legacy but that game did Red justice
I really love this idea of ranking characters based on their morality sense. And yeah the variety of characters here really is impressive and how they act through all the games.
Of course, Spyro and Sparx would be at the very top. But Sparx over Spyro was a surprise, but still a good one. And love that most of the loved characters are here.
I love redemption character, so seeing Cynder and Bianca in the grey area makes sense, they did bad but at the end they are willing to do good.
But Hunter, yeah I mean someone who doesn't know about Spyro games would think he's a minor antagonist. At least he got the girl.
And yes, The Sorceress is the most evil villain in the original, but Malefor is the true overlord of darkness and evilness. I bet one of the most evil characters in existence.

I entirely doubt anyone could agree more with ExoParadigmGamer’s praises on Spyro 3 (especially the PS1 version) that make it one of his favourite video games, including his take on the Sorceress and how strongly menacing she is that she took her as what she was - Spyro the Dragon’s answer to Banjo-Kazooie’s Gruntilda!
In other words, he made “The Gruntilda Effect”!
I love Spyro it's one of games I enjoyed in my childhood. Simpsons hit and run good to evil.

16:24 Most of the worlds in Avalar were dealing with there own problems true, but Ripto was the main cause of a few of them. For example, in the manual of Ripto's Rage it says he summoned the evil spirit in Colossus which was making the wildlife aggressive. It also says he was the one who brought the idols to life in Idol Springs. The thing with Ripto is that he didn't need to do much to conquer Avalar, most of the Avalari were just waiting for the opportunity to attack their neighbors or people they didn't like for their own reasons. Ripto just destabilized the government and had all the leaders focused on him, the Avalari just took advantage of the situation to go into civil war. That's what makes Avalar more interesting then the Dragon Realms or the Forgotten Realms, they aren't oppressed by an evil force but are naturally good, most Avalari are neutral at best and evil at worst. I doubt the Zephyr/Breeze Harbor war is going to stop anytime soon, Spyro killed a lot of soldiers while working for both sides. Both sides are going to hate each other for a long time, even if they cease hostilities.
Apparently, there was cut narration given by Elora that further cements this, it was to play during or in place of the level intros. For example, Elora tells Spyro that Ripto was behind the draining of Aquarius, so he could use the land to build factories.
Ripto also once teamed up with Dr. Neo Cortex from Crash Bandicoot.
Man, your on a roll with my favorite franchises. Not only did you include the Legends trilogy, but also put some of those characters in correct spots. Though I would've preferred Cynder to be higher in the list, but as long as you don't put her as bad or evil I'm fine with your reasoning.
Agent 9 is one of those characters who could just snap and go evil. I could see him as a villain or something close to it in a future game
He's not in any other spyro game. Never made an appearance again (If i'm not mistaken)

The Original PS1 Games suggested that Crush and Gulp were both Abused by Ripto. I'd say they are definitely more Good than Moneybags.
Gnasty Gnorc should probably be a bit more on the Evil Side since Gnasty was a problem for the Dragons for a while before the events of the first game and had already been raising a Gnorc Army made from Gems.
I've been waiting for you guys to do this since the Crash good to evil.
Humorously enough, had you included the handheld games, I think Ripto might've placed higher on the evil side, because with the exception of Season of Ice, Ripto (alongside with Cortex in Spyro Orange) is the main villain for each GBA entry.

I think Cynder deserves 4th place. Because all the evil she's done was because she's under Malefor control. And as you yourself said. She ran away because she did not feel welcome. And in the 3rd game there was not a time she hesitated to help others even though they did not like her.

Y'know, perhaps it'll be interesting if you did the whole of the playable cast of Skylanders spyro's adventure from good to most good, all of the charatcers in said game may be heroes, but some characters like Ghost Roaster or Ignitor might be interesting cases. For this list, probably use the IDW comics and the skylanders backstories as inspiration. Just a suggestion especially since Skylanders is having their 10th anniversary this year.
Spyro also does some really messed up things, like subdue a farm animal rebellion
I expected Moneybags to be the bottom of the grey tier but in Year of the Dragon where he sells the other playable characters like slaves he definitely deserves to be in the evil category.

Getting this out of the way, Greed goes to Moneybags. I love how the redesign suits his smug Brit personality.
Gluttony goes to Handel, seeing that be he blew their cover for candy.
Pride goes to Malefor with his goal of remaking the world as he sees fit. Helps that he is purple.
Wrath has a few candidates. I think I'll give it to Agent 9 for being too agressive to Rhinoks even for a hero.
We may be looking too deep into it but Lust goes to Byrd just because of him shirking duty to hang out with his girl. Seems like a stretch but it's the closest I could find.
Darwin goes to Crush and Gulp. Unlike Bianca and Cinder, those two never go against their master.
Finally, Envy will go to Gnasty Gnorc if only for trying to claim he defeated Spyro, though that was probably on accident.

If we where to include the cut level intro dialog, Ripto would have shot up past Gnasty and possibly Red, as several of the enemy faction's seen throughout the game are actually his minions, instigating a the war between Breeze Harbor and Zephyr, and even ordered the Water-Workers in Sunny Beach to retrieve baby turtle for "Turtle-shell Soufflé".
With this context, he's just as bad as the Sorceress, if not worse because his attempt at child-genocide is just for a meal!

The problem with doing a good to evil list on undertale is that most characters' alignment kind of depends on how you play.
