    i had a '70 (caddy). It didn't burn a drop of oil. wish i had a way to keep it. this was years ago. Had many caddy's from the sixties. (66, 67, 69, 70, 77) had a Lincoln, '85, that was the best big car i drove. was never a ford person, but, the Licoln won, lol. (they don't give those cars away now) (I'm 60 now) sigh, lol

    Hey Scott, I have a 75 caddy 500. All stock. Besides edelbrock 750 and performer intake. Really been getting into your cam videos, can’t decide what came to do, really want a choppy cam but also don’t really wanna go crazy on the heads. What would you recommend that would be best for me? Not planning on crazy power just really love that lope

    I have a 76 Eldorado convertible with 48k original and it is not easy getting upgrade information. I would love to be able to speak with someone about taking my 76 500 cid to the 1970 HP numbers before all this pollution control came out "smog motors". I don't want a "hot rod" or an obnoxious-sounding exhaust. What I would like to do is take it from the anemic 190 HP and get it back to about 300-400 HP which I believe would be more appropriate for a car of this size. I have thought about headers "very expensive" and or roller cam and lifter for longevity or a regular came and lifter set. Of course, while I was in there anyway I would change out the water pump, timing chain and gears, oil pump, etc, etc. I don't want a big cam as I want to keep the cars idle nice and smooth. It is a Cadillac after all. I know the best way is to pull the motor and change out the pistons. I am hoping that there is a workaround. If I were to do that I would buy a second engine and build it while enjoying the car with the original engine until the new one is done. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for the information and I will be looking forward to future videos regarding the 500.

      Need to probably join the Cadillac 472/500 Facebook group ..... The 70 did not make that much HP ... How HP was measured changed and we went from gross HP to net HP ... Most Cadillac engines make around 300 HP stock ... Later year is a bit lower because of catalytic converter and emissions tune but without that it's still a 300 HP engine

      @@scotthatch4548 Thanks for the info. I knew about the net to gross HP conversion of 1972. But I thought that they changed the compression ratio from 10.1 down to 8.5

      @@scotthatch4548 Ah! Thanks, for taking the time! I did not want to increase the compression as gas is not what it used to be. So that is great news

    I found it very informative. To advance a cam would you rotate the cam 1 tooth forward

    • @scotthatch4548
      @scotthatch4548  Год назад +1

      No ! One tooth is 20 degrees ... For the Cadillac you only have the timing chain with a 4 degree advance keyway ... You can also do a offset key for more but they are getting hard to find and it would require you to change timing pointer because you moved the hub too

      @@scotthatch4548 do you mean the crank timing gear has a 4 degree advance keyway cut in it ? Thanks, great video!

      @@trailerparkcryptoking5213 yes roller timing chain has 3 keyways straight... Plus 4 and minus 4 ... I did a video on chains available for the Cadillac

  • @SWBjr15

    If I used the roller timing chain and gear and went “retarded” on the crank key, do I need to change my timing pointer? I have a 1974 Cadillac 500.

    • @scotthatch4548
      @scotthatch4548  Год назад

      No the key for the hub is in the same place as it always is sitting ... Only time you have to worry is when you use a different key on the crankshaft to move the timing gear

    People try and get performance out of these pita engines. You need to force induction them or you'll spend crazy money on a n a engine. The parts are way over priced.
    I can't even get the guy to answer the phone over there who sells the aftermarket stuff.

    Stock cams are pure garbage.
