It always felt appropriate that the rivals' ace monsters are always 500 ATK higher than the protags', since rivals like Kaiba and Jack are focused on the overwhelming power of those monsters while Yugi and Yusei use their skill and wits to outmaneuver them with their weaker monsters.
Heck Stardust and RDA are easily the best rival aces in the series because if RDA attacks it wins, but if RDA activates either of it's destruction effects then Stardust wins, making the dynamic lot better than just stalling around until the protagonist pulls the "I win" card like with most cases.
Heck, almost all of the protag monsters have 2500 ATK, except Decode Talker which is 2300 ATK, and they all have 2000 DEF with the exception of Decode because link monster and Dark Magician which has 2100 (maybe paying homeage to it being the first).
@@ninkstheultimate3376 Technically Firewall Dragon is Playmaker's ace, which has the 2500 ATK of the other aces. Problem is Firewall was banned in the OCG during the show's production, and they didn't want to promote a card that people couldn't play, so they pivoted to Decode Talker.

Nah, Blue-Eyes was created on the rule of the villain starting stronger than the protagonist. If anything the true mascot is Kuriboh. BLS wasn't even created to be use against Kaiba funny enough.

@@yacine656 I wouldn’t say that considering Linkuriboh and Rainbow are actually some of the best Kuribohs around. I’ve seen more decks with Linkuriboh in it than I have with Blue-Eyes or Dark Magician.

I always stand by the say that "A hero is only as good as their villain", so for Kaiba to have a monster that is stronger than Dark Magician is a way of show how someone who is perceived weaker can overcome impossible odds.
It's kind of like a "brains vs brawn" dynamic.
But Kaiba is a 4th rate duelist with a 5th rate deck.
It is a screw the rules, I have magic dynamic.

In the manga BLS only appears ONCE. Against Mai in Duelist Kingdom. It is never seen or talked about ever again after that.

@@nunocarvalho6671 In the anime Yugi uses BLS a lot more times in filler. Like that short Legendary Heroes arc after Duelist Kingdom. Or in the Virtual World Arc, where Yugi uses it to destroy a Skull Knight. Or in Waking the Dragons against Dartz and the Leviathan. And finally they even made it Yugi's ka in the Millenium World arc for some reason. Oh and he fuses with BLS in Capsule Monster.

The ironic thing is that in Duel Links, this pringle BLS is being played alongside BEWD, because the Skill used with it allows you to Normal Summon Normal Monsters with 2500 ATK or DEF without Tributing, aka BEWD, DM, and BLS. So if anything, the card that's supposed to "counter" BEWD is now an ally.
Also Neos to complete the main character squad.
I miss the Lord of D flute of summoning dragons 2 blue eyes and Axe of despair combo days.

Yugi and Atem are two sides of the same coin for most of the manga. Black Magician is both their ace. DSoD shows Yugi’s still using DM as his ace.

Blue Eyes is also the first card and monster designed and created by Takahashi, and it’s a standing rule that Blue Eyes cannot be surpassed.
Funny thing. In the manga, Blue-Eyes was originally meant to be Yugi's. It was his grandpa's card after all and during their duel, Kaiba summoned it, but Blue-Eyes disobeyed Kaiba and went to Yugi's side of the field, winning him the duel.

That’s what’s funny. Kaiba is all about power and ruthlessness to win in life. Atem teaches Kaiba that winning can also be accomplished with grace and wits. I think their decks represent that well.

Yeah I felt the power of blue eyes white dragon when I dueled a friend for the first time in years, managed to summon blue eyes white dragon on his first turn somehow and beat him.
It's funny that you mention this, since BLS only became even slightly relevant when it's non-normal/ritual version came out 😂
Blue Eyes was the creators intended poster child, but Kuriboh ended up being the card to keep seeing new variations in each new iteration of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise 😂
Blue-Eyes lives on in every 3000 ATK rival Dragon, just like Dark Magician's spiritual successors are every 2500 ATK protagonist ace.

Kaiba and his expies use cards that are naturally strong. They represent power.
Atem and his expies overcome that with weaker monsters, but with more combos to compensate the power gap. It’s a David vs Goliath situation. The protagonists' combo reliant strategies is reflection of how bonds are important to them.
His attack was badass in Duelists of the Roses
BLS will always have a fan in me. I thought the retrains in Dimension of Chaos were the coolest things in that pack

Blue eyes is the most representative card in the game. Bls is just there as the counter for it despite having a small protagonism in the franchise due to his brief appearances in the anime and the lack of dominance in the game outside of its effect counterpart known as envoy of the beginning.
Funny thing Blue Eyes was supposed to be Atem ace. I love this though

Honestly Kaiba always felt more compelling than Atem purely because his story was so tragic both in his current life and past, then Atem always gets overshadowed by Yugi’s development and kind of just exists for the staying power of “I’m the one who duels” and only ever starts becoming a ‘good’ character in the Atlantis and Pharaoh arcs

The normal BLS is actually printed on stainless steel, and cannot be played in game. And yes, it is one of the rarest cards ever. Who knows maybe worth over 0.5 million plus as we speak
I just looked it up, the only stainless steel card in circulation was sold in 2013 for 10 million dollars!!🤯

You know, that would be cool for monsters in general…
That certain Non-Ritual monsters can be ritual summoned with certain Ritual Spells for added powers…
Or even if there were Ritual Spells that, instead of “just” summoning a monster, would apply any other manner of effects… Like a “Ritual of Greed” that lets you draw cards depending on how many monsters were used as tribute for it.

lets be real... yugi introduces differents cards at differents moments without continue a solid line on brute or magic force of the monsters, they use it 1 or 2 times and is done, blue eyes and dark magician always were prots, but at 1 moments all starts with exodia, later magician of chaos, it came lile nothing and pegasus was terrified, but the card was never seen before, later, black luster, another super ancient card but on the deck never was seen, goes on and on, black magician paladin, dark sage...
Team Kaiba for sure. Dragons are just cooler.

I honestly feel BLS fits more as a Ritual monster. Kaiba is about the future, it makes sense to be normal monster, sacrifice others for power now. Atem is about the past, which was filled with obscene things like rituals and dark magic, things that usually involved, again, sacrifices.
We could need a Fusion between Black Luster and Blue Eyes! Imagine the Soldier riding that Dragon!
