That's not gaslighting. That's how friends are around each other - immature. They want you to feel bad for leaving them but they also want you to do your thing and be happy.
@@devontebrown9768 of course it's childish. I know it and they know it. It's also clingyness and we know the boundaries too. It's more personal. Watch the episode. They told them about not being able to afford expensive things & then they buy the tickets that they couldn’t get themselves. Made it feel like charity
@GRL0122 I have seen the episode. They all paid for an expensive present for Ross and then they celebrated Monica's job in an expensive restaurant. That's, where the whole thing kind of explodes, because they tell the three with money that they can't afford it. Still, I think, it's not a charity, but a nice gesture, that Ross and the others decided to pay for the other three.
@@KaitoKiaraYes it’s a nice gesture but the all situation make it feels like charity They told them that they can’t afford big things like them, and the presentation of the gifts by Monica and Chandler make the things bigger. It would have been better if they would not have made a big thing out of the tickets. Not like a show
So what if its charity thats what friends do. When I was doing good and a friend of mine was in the gutter i did pay everything. He got his life on track earns triple what I do and now if it gets too expensive for me he pays. What about it thats what friends do
@GRL0122 that's still friendship, friends wanna do nice things for the people they care about and some friends when they hear their friend can't go to something or afford something they pay for it because they want their company
I completely understand why they feel like it’s charity (I JUST watched this episode last week) but they’re better than me!! I would’ve absolutely taken the ticket and gone, charity or not. I’d forget about the bad feeling when I’m sitting in those seats 😭
Even they got rights to be offended. They all should have up with idea which will be affordable to everyone like there are dozens of stuff that don't cost too much money.
Friends do things for each other but tbh the way they had put up this skit together was so cringe. And it does feel like charity. Ross could have easily said that he is taking everyone out on his birthday. Even if behind the scenes chandler and monica also pooled the money. Ross pretending to take everyone out on his own wouldn't have made those three feel more miserable. As for dinner, I dont understand that monica cooks all the time. But this time she had to explain that she got steaks. Instead of putting this show and making them feel that "its all on us" she could have simply came in to the apartment and proclaimed to other 5 that i got some steaks from work , lets have them for dinner. Both ross and Monica could have gestured independently of eachother in a way that it wouldn't have felt to those three like charity. Sometime its not the action that is hurtful but the way in which it is presented
All of this! Plus, Joey, Rachel, and Phoebe's gripe about the restaurant was that they always had to go to an upscale, fancy place, "some place nice." This didn't mean they didn't want to go out to eat, just at a place they could afford. They aren't saying they don't want to hang out. They're just asking to do an activity together that includes them equally in all ways. They wanted to feel as valuable in the friendship as Ross, Monica, and Chandler. That's one of the only things I like about Phoebe's birthday episode in the later seasons. They were all able to go to a fancy place together because they all were at a better financial place. They were finally able to do the thing without anyone feeling like a financial burden.
Your birthday doesnt give u a pass to Insulting someone based on their financial situation/income. Then trying to buy those things for them makes it like their point is proved, about how the others cant afford it. Even tho it was meant as a nice thing. It's not called having an ego
This explains so much now that I make more money and have a better job than my sister is like she will always resent the fact I got to study what I wanted in a private university while her was kinda forced by mom to study in a public institution a major she really didn’t like. If I try to do nice things for her or my nieces she will act like “I don’t need your charity” well sorry for have a better paid job is like she will always have that envy towards me I honestly feel she doesn’t like me at all or other members of my family or friends from previous jobs I guess that’s why people move on and get new friends because family ir previous friends would always feel envy and resentment towards them for having a better job or better salary.
Well I do like charity things,I just don't like spending my money so if a friend gonna pay for me and I get to keep my money it is a double gain I get to enjoy + at the same time save my money😅😅😂❤
To everyone saying this was a nice gesture and not charity, the better alternative would be to do things together that all of them can afford or let the poorer friend make the plan that way no one has to worry
The irony is that Monica ends up in their financial situation after this episode. Out of all of them I feel like she's the least deserving of that karma 😢
I hated this, what they wanted was for the rest of the friends to get down to their financial level🤔 so they should lose the things they enjoy because of ur pride?
@ it wasn’t an act, most reasonable ppl wouldn’t go somewhere they can’t afford, why are u tagging along if ur broke? And worse without even saying anything to your friends, I’ll always pay for my friends if they don’t have it but I’d never lower my standard of living to make others feel better about themselves, anyone who wants u to do that is no real friend.
@@crownedking_cj8890 While I wouldn't ask my friend to lower their standard of living for me, if they act like they can only go to places beyond my budget just because they're willing to always pay for me, I wouldn't want that either.
