  • This is not a "how to" video but a video showing what most of the parts are that make the water softener work. I hope this video is used as a template and helps others figure out what could be wrong with their water softener.

    Great video. You probably saved me over $1000 if I would have called repair man. Turns out my system was not showing any water flow. Turns out the impeller magnet was corroded. Put the ultimate culprit was the impeller sensor cable assembly was bad. Swapping out cables fixed the problem. To test the cable, leave it plugged into the controller, then remove the 1 screw holding the other end. Pull it out of impeller housing. Then use a magnet to touch the unplugged end and see if you can detect the moving water drop on the display. If you don't see it, replace the cable. Easy-peasey !

    This is a good video I really appreciate you taking the time. I would probably have a little bit of O-ring lube and applied sparingly to those large O-rings where the two pieces come together. A prudent person might use food grade lube sparingly.

    Jared Excellent A.O Smith WS teardown video and how to fix most of top assembly! I may have found out why you have a leak at top of unit. I am no plumber but you may need to bring down your drain line to WS level or below, those unit doesn't have powerful motor to push drain water upward and therefore it rely on gravity to do most of the work. I would just cut the white main drain pipe to below WS level and let the gravity do the rest, hopeful that should take care of leak problem .

      @@jaredledlow7482 the manual said that drain line maybe elevated up to 8 feet from the discharge on the water softener if water pressure in your system is 40 psi or more. If drain line is 25 feet or longer, increase the drain line to 3/4 inches ID. The end of drain line must be equal or lower in height than the control valve. I installed mine and my drain line is much higher than yours but no problem so far. Hope this helps. Good video btw

    Appreciate the info. Just hooked up one. I have well water -> sediment -> ao smith carbon filter -> ao smith pro 50k softener -> ao smith uv filter. I'm trying to get the settings/function right. Just hooked it up and I'm getting salty water flavor. I'm using 3/4" drain line and it's a 4' vertical and 20' or so horizontal into my drain. Drain was a little crimped so I adjusted that as I'm using the same drain as the washing machine. Anyway, that little gear mechanism is what I'm thinking MAY be clogged if anything. Gonna check that next and then do a regen and see where I'm at.

      @@chipshuhart2977 Honestly it semed to take a bit of time to settle down. I think I did a few regen cycles and just ran water through it until it worked properly. My system was still regenerating but the extra water that was coming into the tank was from the loose seal from the intake hose... so basically it was "dripping" into my tank until I put something on the threads to stop the leaking. I would have to use a pitcher and dump the water out till I fixed it.

    I am installing one of these for the first time and the instructions show running a separate line for the outside Spickets. My house is not set up that way and all the water lines are in the concrete slab. Would this water kill the grass and plants?

    • @jaredledlow7482
      @jaredledlow7482  Год назад

      Not 100% sure. It is dumping the old water from the brine tank so it will have some salt in it. Maybe make a small gravel dump area 1 ft by 1ft so all the salt runs into the rocks and not on the grass. Note: the water dumping will be about 6 ish + gallons of water every time it regenerates. So it's no a lot of water...

    Bro I’m having a problem where my Bryan tank keeps filling with water and it keeps draining from the overfill plug in the back. I had to turn mine to bypass so it’s not doing it’s job. Any idea why it keeps filling with water all the way to top. ?

      My system's extra water was coming into the tank from a loose seal from the intake hose... so basically it was "dripping" into my tank until I put something on the threads to stop the leaking. I would have to use a pitcher and dump the water out till I fixed it. If you look at the top of your tank and see any discoloring like water has been sitting... that.s were the leak is.
      The leak could be from the thread of the hoses or(hopefully not) a cracked housing. But more than likely it will be a hose/thread needing to be sealed better.

    • @jaredledlow7482
      @jaredledlow7482  2 года назад

      Hmmm. Mine didn't stay in regen mode but if it's clicking could be a warn out gear or the gear is slipping that turns the "cycle wheel" (not sure what it's really called.) Not sure what else would make a clicking noise that would also keep it in one cycle. I would take off that gear under that screen. Check it and then make sure it's sitting back on the gears. Sorry for the late response. Hope it helps.
