I have been selling and servicing the cobra 150 and 200 for many years. I also have many nos parts for them and i take care of the factory faults like the adjacent channel rejection issue etc and i keep plenty of the RD16HHF1 driver that fails if the voltage is set higher than 2.3 volts which most left the factory with it set to high. The last one i serviced was set at 4.6 volts causing it to fail which causes no output and when that happens most people think that the final transistors have failed when its usually just the 8 dollar driver plus they are very static sensitive and will also fail if the lightning storm gets to close. I still have plenty of both for sale still new in the box. I sell them new as is or completely gone through.
No they still do not make this radio man...but ill tell you this the 2003 models are the second den...and as long as you keep the radio on high side at 60 watts swinging 100 you should not blow this pills in it...why people dislike the cobra 200gtl is they were trying to set them up to do 180 200 watt swings this is why the radio gets bad reviews.....hope that helps
@@chris2crazzy plus that non fixable nightwatch feature inevitably going down with time... A true shame. Love the radio but that alone makes it a total no go.
I can verify the reply you got from CBRM because I have a GTL200DX. My on board meter shows about an S4 when I transmit on either low or full power. My external power meter shows 25w out on low, and 120 on high however, the on board meter never changes when I change power. Basically, the stock meter show I am transmitting but that is about it. On receive it seems to work correctly and fine. I see come GTL200Dxs that do swing the on board meter higher, but don't put out any more.
These things have a poor reputation in the UK where they're sold primarily for ssb use - however, the audio sounds 'clipped' & the coarse shift will not track enough to reach the zero's (ie - 27.560Mhz) Makes a pretty door stop.
i'm not a big fan of Cobra's.i have a Magnum S-9 that i bought 2 years ago.probably the best radio i've ever owned.should i decide to buy a new radio it'll be a Galaxy 95T or 99.

alot of people put these radios down. they say its shit. how the hell would they know if they dont own one??. i own one and it was the best choice i ever made. i have only had it about 2-3 months and already i have QSL'D differend divisions in europe. on tripple 5. if any one is thinking of buying one for dx-ing on ssb get one you wont do wrong. 73's 26-RSN-111
Wait until that fancy display quits working and you will sing another song. Made to last 2000hrs or 4000cycles ...then it's adios amigos. No f... way to fix that. Even a complete face replacement is near to impossible. Been there, tried that.
Pure Beuty!! I've got 148GTL Made In Chicago 1990 3 years younger than me :D Quite big i want to put my at home, and find something smaller for the car, or buy Cobra 2000 to put at home, and keep 148 at car :D

Any ideas regarding intermittent high power issues on ssb?
Finals?
Sometimes high power, then it drops out..
How do you know if a cobra 200 is an early model or a newer with the bugs fixed? Serial numbers to look for?
Do they even still make this radios?
