      It's a modified Irish Bouzouki and you are correct: the frets are adjusted to match those on Saz.

    Does Polly survive in any traditional versions or is this just his own take on it?

    • @ThomasJJacksonVA
      @ThomasJJacksonVA 4 года назад +1

      Stanley Brothers' version sounds (to me) like something close to traditional. There's also a version by Dock Boggs on YT.

      Mitch, " Pretty Polly" was based on an infamous true story of a pregnant woman murdered by her sailor boyfriend in Gosport, England in 1727. Yes, 1727. Originally known as " The Gosport Tragedy". The ending heard here, where Polly kills her intended murderer, may be Lindley's own invention. If you google "Pretty Polly song origin" you can find lots of historical information about the newspaper coverage of the murder, and the evolution of the song.

    dreadful. great player, but the machine is already on an amp, which horribly distorts the harmonics and timber, then two more mikes. just play electric guitar and be done with it.
