  • A SQL Server database can be installed on Microsoft Azure. If you do this, then you don't even need to install SQL Server on your computer.
    This video comes from my DP-900 course: rebrand.ly/dp900
    My SQL Server Udemy courses are:
    70-461, 70-761 Querying Microsoft SQL Server with T-SQL: rebrand.ly/querying-microsoft...
    98-364: Database Fundamentals (Microsoft SQL Server): rebrand.ly/database-fundamentals
    70-462 SQL Server Database Administration (DBA): rebrand.ly/sql-server-dba

    In this video, we will get a free Microsoft Azure account, with around US$200 worth of credit. Then we'll log in, and create an Azure SQL Database with some sample database. We'll then make sure that your computer has access to it.

    If you go over any limits (ie network, cpu), are charges incurred automatically?

    • @SQLServer101
      @SQLServer101  3 года назад +1

      Hello Jay. If you have entered credit card details, then yes, some charges will be incurred. How much depends on what type of database you have provisioned. Have a look at azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/calculator/ for details. However, it's easy to keep a check on it.
      Additionally, for 12 months you do get for free "250 GB of SQL Database standard S0 instance with 10 database transaction units" - see azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/free/ for details.

    Great video. I thought they said the service was free? Why did you still have to pay, or is that just an estimate?

    • @SQLServer101

      Hi Bankole. Some of the services are free, and some are free for 365 days. See docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/391722/free-tier-azure-sql-database.html for more details. Phillip

    How come you have tables, Views and Stored Procedures in your SQL server right after you created it? You should have a blank server, isn't it?

    at 9'51" where you create a new server, I wasn't given the option to create a username and password. I went ahead with creating the server anyway and that is done. But now I can't log in to SSMS as I do not have credentials. And the active directory authentication which I assumed would work isn't. Please help if you have any solution.

    Thanks a lot, Mister, I have an inquiry though, Is it possible to not pay at all but continue to use the database service?

    • @SQLServer101
      @SQLServer101  2 года назад

      Hi CeeJay. You can use "Azure SQL Database" "250Gb S0 instance with 10 database transaction units" free for 12 months. See azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/free-services/ . After that, you would have to pay. If you want to use SQL Server for free, have a look at the Developer edition, which you download onto your computer. See ruclips.net/video/Y_J6zMvV_jM/видео.html . Hi Kannada. Azure SQL Database is a standalone database in the cloud - it doesn't require a Virtual Machine, whereas SQL Server on a Virtual Machine does. However, Azure SQL Database doesn't have all of the features of on-premises SQL Server or SQL Server on a VM. For more details, please have a look at more DP-900 course on Azure Data: rebrand.ly/dp900 . Phillip

    Is there a way to put this database on a virtual machine that's already created on azure?

    • @SQLServer101
      @SQLServer101  2 года назад +1

      Hello Sally. If you mean transfer the database, then you would need to install SQL Server on that Virtual Machine, and then copy it onto it. If you mean access the database, then you could install SSMS on that VM, and then access the Azure database through that SSMS. Phillip
