VH-OQA is currently the oldest A380 in service in the world. Watched it fly in today, wonderful to see it back in service.

This QF A380 is unique in the fact that it is the only one to have been officially christened by the very person for which it is named after.
What’s also interesting is that this aircraft was the one that suffered the uncontained engine failure out of Singapore. The repairs added about 200kgs to the airframe, yet despite that weight penalty the airline chose to retire and part out other A380’s ahead of her.
My daughter was on it yesterday out of LAX QF12. I didn't mention to her the QF32 incident. She would've been scared for the whole 15 hour flight 😆
Just to say (sorry if someone else has already pointed it out) …. this is the plane that was QF26 that fateful day from SIN to SYD. So another reason why it so great to see it fly back into Sydney today

I think it was stored in Abu Dhabi.

Where was this aircraft parked while in storage? Think of the 1000's of hours of maintenance the airline did on this huge aircraft. The pandemic kept the airline and manufacturer's tech pubs and engineers busy making sure that maintenance was performed according to a schedule, depending on whether the aircraft was in active storage vs inactive storage. ATA 5 and 10

This was also one of the earliest a380s to enter service in 2008.
was it stored at alice springs? does this mean all a380s are back in service now?
We're still waiting for OQC to return then they will have all come back. There are a few frames also in maintenance in Abu Dhabi now though. It was stored in Victorville then Abu Dhabi waiting for her spot in for a heavy check. -Tim

Crazy how Qantas have taken so long to get all their A380s back into service when BA have had them back for nearly 2 years. Another big mistake Joyce made was scrapping 2 of the 12.

I was at Sydney airport last night. Due to the curfew so many flights were cancelled. Being a Perth flight and no curfew at Perth’s Airport we were the alone flight allow to access . Also the weather at Friday night one runway was operating. Sydney Airport terrible mess.
The curfew is government mandated, not Sydney Airport or ATC. Nobody can help the weather and airlines must use the optimal runway to meet their aircraft requirements. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. By the looks of things, you arrived so you've got to be happy with that :) Safety before schedule.
Funny because Qantas flights were so expensive but they had aircraft just sitting there doing nothing.

I was thinking something similar. This aircraft is historically interesting, not only because it was QF's first, but also because of QF32. Maybe Longreach instead of HARS. I wonder whether it could land at either location?

This Arrival only happened because the Leprechaun departed, now to bring them all back and start earning back some of that Tax payers money that bought them.
